I have asthma and have had pneumonia several times. I bet you feel great in 2 weeks. As I am sure your doctor husband (I am a doctor too) tells you that you feel better before your X-rays do. They take a while to go back to normal. That’s why first X-ray with pneumonia may not show much as the X-ray and illness don’t always line up. Thus pneumonia is a clinical ie. symptoms, listening diagnosis.  Sit back and relax and heal. I hate that coughing too.

Ok yes, that makes sense. Of course it didn’t help that it all went down on a Friday afternoon and DH is on call this weekend (currently at the hospital) so the info is slow to get to me.

I’m getting on Omnicef today I guess as added precaution. I went about 20+ years without pneumonia (since surgery really really helped break that cycle) and man did I forget how awful it is.

Off to find my probiotics before I end up with Cdiff again.

    Thanks.

Because of your young age, and having two weeks to recover before your trip , I also think you will be OK to travel (antibiotics will clear you up in a few days).  With your cruise being in New England and Canada, your flight should not be terribly long.  And should you have a relapse, you are closer to home.  Thank goodness that you are not flying overseas!

Having said that, we recently had a friend in her late 70's that became ill a couple of weeks before she was headed over to Israel with a group.  I am not sure if she was diagnosed with pneumonia earlier, and treated with antibiotics, or not. But she ended up in the hospital a day after landing in Tel Aviv. 😪 Spent 3 nights there after being diagnosed with pneumonia and dehydration.  Something else that had to do with a lack of eating.  Point being...drink plenty of fluids and eat healthy the next 2 weeks and also during your travel!!!  Good luck!

My daughter got stuck overseas last year on day 2 with Covid. That was a mess but at least no hospital involved

    We're on the same cruise.

This past January we left N Statendam with Pneumonia and my wife took 8 weeks to recover.

In September I left the  N Statendam and tested positive for covid when I arrived home 8 hrs later.

Ships are great for relaxation but the bugs on board that infect us are just looking to spread the joy.

Oh, wow. I’m surprised to find another on this cruise! The roll call has been me and one other person and I think neither of us check it any more.

Ooof, yeah, your recovery times look a bit rough for me trying to still make it. And like many have mentioned, with just recovering and how does that open me up to a new bug. I’m about to call my Covid doc friend and pick his brain.

I would obviously wear an Aura mask on the plane etc, and this assumes I don’t have a relapse. Plus, I haven’t spoken with my pulmonologist yet either.

I agree it’s not looking good for me.

  4. Thanks, everyone, I’m reading along. I had my first good nights sleep last night.

I did forget about Covid, 😬  I haven’t had it yet.

I should also clarify I went to urgent care last Sunday (Easter) and had an antibiotic shot and steroids and antibiotics to take. The doc is calling me in more today though.

DH and I decided that if I can’t go, he will still go alone. He is a surgeon (story there about where Spleenstomper comes from) and it was a Herculean effort for us to find this cruise and this date in between everything else and university graduations etc. He hasn’t taken more than 5 days off for vacation in years and he really needs this. He had to take off from 3 facilities and all of that so he needs to go without me.

If that happens, I’ll be fine. All of our friends are doctors and one of our friends is a Covid doctor (going to call him today) in another area.

I look a lot better than earlier in the week.

Anyway, thanks. I was just looking for some poor me last night I guess. I’m just really tired from the coughing. I’m clearing it all pretty well though. My doctor was surprised to learn I have pneumonia because I looked and sounded so good yesterday. (And initial reading of X-ray was normal).

ok. Thanks, I’m going back to bed. It’s a stormy day today so it’s a good day to rest and do nothing.

I would cancel...if your immune system is comprised or not fully recovered a ship is not a good place for you - the A/C is a rampant spreader of all sorts of disease - its been this way since they sealed the port holes.

    Good luck!

That actually is a really good point. I was harping on as long as I’m not a threat to anyone but maybe this situation isn’t great for me either. We are going to sit on it and see how I feel next week. I suppose we could always make it a land vacation to the same places.

    We do have a balcony…

Wishing you the best. From what you said, it seems that you have cancellation insurance.

I need to double check it, but I usually get the mid tier package of all the ones I look at. Definitely need to check T&C though.

ETA: yes, bought ins the same day we booked and 100% is covered plus airline reschedule or refund and up to $200 for points. So we are good but I’m not looking to cancel if we can avoid it.

    Thanks for the well wishes

  7. Just saying, ain’t this something? Upper right lobe pneumonia: just had a CT scan.

Thank goodness I got the one shot prevnar20 in September and I’m in my early 50s and in decent shape. I hope I can pull this off. I’m waiting for the doc to tell me what he wants me to do and hopefully I can stay home. My O2 sats are fine. Thanks for listening.

    ETA: we have trip insurance.

Thank you. She already has those pills too. Cardiologist said between the diltiazem and the flecainide, they were supposed to get her back in sinus rhythm and keep her out of the E.D.

She sees the cardiologist on the 24th and we are supposed to leave on the 29th for our cruise if the doctor gives her the OK.

    Good luck to you!

  9. I happened to have had a family cruise scheduled 2 weeks after my dad unexpectedly died. We all agreed to go anyway. It was helpful. None of had to cook, clean for ourselves and it gave me especially a lot of balcony time to grieve. I did a lot of staring and thinking. The ocean was very comforting and I needed the break. I was glad for this cruise.

I’m sorry your beloved dog died. They take so much of us with them when they go.

Ask!  I was issued a refund for the difference of $1800. This was after final payment. Others got upgrades and OBC. It never hurts to ask.

We made out like bandits with Carnival when there was the oil spill in the gulf. Kids with us in inside cabin… had to have been at least $2500 in credits.

Thanks, everyone. I’ll about to go look at call to ask.

  11. I’m figuring it’s too late, but I just thought I’d ask. I don’t think the cruise is full and I did get an upgrade email the other day (we have a balcony so I think it’s a big price jump to a Neptune suite so we aren’t interested).

    Thanks for any tips.

DH noticed the prices were about half what we paid, but I haven’t yet looked to see if our cabin class is open.

  12. We received an email from HAL a week or so ago talking about Boston construction affecting traffic and it could get bad getting to the airport upon debarking. They suggest you use their services for airport transfers.

We are going to hang out a few days post cruise.

Locals, is this a large issue? Thanks.
