  1. I've been in 443 on the Wind and it was just fine. I've also been in various cabins in the 420s on both the Wind and the Cloud (Cloud pre alterations) and they were OK too.

The location of 443 is definitely better but there's no difference otherwise, if you can change without much hassle, I'd do it but I wouldn't worry about staying in 429 either.

I think 447 is opposite a Butler's pantry and is noisy, but 443 is quiet.

  2. Good Thursday Morning Janice, wonderful to learn Eric and you are also on the Spirit crossing. We also love the Spirit's crossings (variety of dining venues, familiar crew (tho some have defected to the Muse). As of today, am only aware that spinnaker2 (Candy & Larry) and Vintners (Sara & Monty) have booked. Hope other cruise critics (jollyjones, EnglishUSA, et. al., book).

Please (and other Silversea cruise critics that have booked), please register for the Silver Spirit 2018 Fall Crossing, link below:

I booked and paid in full at the same time Spins did, I'm pretty sure English USA did too, to take advantage of the 'hurry up and and pay now and save 10%' unrepeatable sale ... which SS keeps repeating every three months ... but usually with price increases. So we'll be there.

BTW, I see we're now embarking at Tilbury - I'm guessing that the new Greenwich pier isn't going to be done in time. Tilbury is, albeit further away than Greenwich, possibly a bit easier to get to if you're staying in London for a day or two pre-cruise. I'll be getting a tube to Tower Hill and walking up to Fenchurch St station (you can get a taxi, of course) then get the Southend Central train to Tilbury Town station, and a taxi to the pier. It's about a mile to the cruise pier which is adjacent to the Tilbury Ferry Terminal.

If you were thinking of flying in the same morning and getting a car service from LHR to the pier, I'd advise against it. It's a terrible journey right across the full width of London - you'd need to go round the M25, that well known parking lot, altho' fair enough, from the M25 to Tilbury won't be too bad.

  3. You might be surprised, and possibly a little alarmed, by how much information about you is on that iPad.

Soon after they were introduced, it became clear that my information was actually muddled up with someone else's which showed multiple food allergies and other problems (none of which were mine, I can and do eat anything) - there was a great deal of waiter angst as they struggled to politely stop me ordering food that their iPad told them would kill me!

It took about four cruises before I could get their database corrected, but along the way I was shown what it said - most of the information was about me (the allergy stuff appeared to have been added recently, presumably it should have been added to someone else's profile) and it contained all sorts of information, pretty much going back to when I started sailing SS.

They try and know as much about you as they can, for obvious marketing reasons.

A couple of cruises ago, when first meeting my butler (had never sailed with him before), as I drew breath to mention my usual fridge preferences, he beat me to it and reeled off word for word what I had said on earlier cruises.

  4. [quote=witt's end;54220528 Yesterday I was in the buffet restaurant for lunch for 20 minutes and no one passed by to see if I wanted water or something from the bar.

Last night at dinner our table of 8 watched in amazement as we sat with every wine glass empty. The table beside us requested the bottle be left on their table.

    .

Wow! That's so unusual, I wonder if something has happened behind the scenes.

Having very recently disembarked after 17 days on the Whisper, I was quite glad to have a chance to let my liver rest and recover - drinks of all sorts were freely and promptly offered in all venues.

And I so enjoyed my Whisper experience that I've squeezed in another trip on her (Nov 2nd) before my first Muse cruise (Dec 6th), just because I could. OMG gasps my liver, to mix a metaphor.

PS I just remembered that Sergio went on holiday just after I disembarked so maybe the current Maitre D' isn't up to speed? Henry D'Roza was the HD and he seemed to be everywhere all the time, maybe he's having a break too?

  5. I am a bit sad for my OH's sake that the America's Cup one on St Maarten is no more

    Rp

I've done the America's Cup cruise in St Maarten and was rather unhappy with it - it was one of the old, old boats and it was very crowded - there didn't seem to be enough room for everyone and I felt a bit unsafe.

OK, I knew it wouldn't be one of the foiling catamarans that we watched with such breathless excitement here in Bermuda this summer, but still ...

  6. Ahoy all going on the Whisper NYC to BArbados 2/11/17.

Have just checked My Silversea and the itinerary has been amended. St Barts has been brought forward to 9/11,replacing St Maarten; Antigua is brought forward to 10/11 and Grenada introduced on 11/11. St Lucia remains as it was as do the earlier stops and the sea days.

No official word form SS on this and indeed my agent checked with them yesterday so maybe don't plan anything until the edict comes from on high.

    Rp

I'm on this cruise too and I was kinda looking forward to a 'Magical Mystery Ride' since I'm not very bothered about the ports, just like to be cruising.

It is pretty much what I expected tho', glad it's Grenada that is the addition with a shortened time in Antigua, better itinerary than the original IMO.

And surely you didn't expect prompt and official word from SS? SS, the keeper of deepest darkest secrets until the very last minute? Even such teensy tiny matters such as cancelling a load of cruises to cut a ship in half? :)

PS - only the itinerary has updated - click on Antigua excursions and you get St Barths, ditto click on Grenada and get Antigua - guess they need a bit of time.

  7. I've done it many, many times but I do it because I'm walking home - it depends on how far you like walking.

It's about a 15 min walk on the flat with sidewalks to BUEI.

It's easily 30 mins to the Botanical Gardens, the last little bit with no sidewalks and up a gentle hill.

Both are on bus routes so if you got a day transportation pass, your ferry and bus rides would all be included.

The weather could be a factor - if it's raining, or if it's very hot and humid as it so often is, you'd probably prefer to go by bus.

  8. Jose has trapped the Insignia in Manhattan (along with the Silver Whisper and Aida Diva) - anyone have any information about when they might get out?

The NHC forecast shows Jose to be nearly stationary so it could be a while - I wonder what the cruise lines will do?

  9. All, we will be ok.

    Thanks for the good thoughts.

I will take the tonic though and mix it with some gin.

    No ice because water contaminated.

Perhaps I will make some ice from bottled water.

    ;-)

Ah, warm gin and tonic - takes me back to my youth in English pubs.

Sorry you can't make it to your cruise but I do sympathize - when disembarkation from the Whisper recently was coming near, Jose was potentially threatening Bermuda so I spent awhile looking for earlier flights home; didn't need them as it turned out but I felt I wanted to be at home if there were going to be problems. (Can't believe Jose is still causing problems)

I 'spect it's way too late but it would have been fun if you could have rolled over your SS booking to join me on the Muse Dec 6th - southern Caribbean so with a bit of luck those islands will still be there.

    The poor, poor Leeward islands.

    And Mexico.

And everywhere else suffering natural disasters, seems like there's almost too many to comprehend.

  10. Spins,

Gotta say it - I know you personally didn't vote for the Orange Idiot supposedly running your country, but the rest of us out in the rest of the world are distressed, to put it mildly, about what he can do to us all.

Oh, for a very tiny cat 5 hurricane just over him.
