  1. We are booked for next July on the Holland Oosterdam for our first time to Alaska. After lots of research and reading reviews this is our plan for excursions. Juneau-whale watch with Harv and Marv, also Mendenhall Glacier; Skagway-Trail of 98 tours 7 hour tour up to Emerald Lake; Ketchikan-Island Wings tour of the Misty Fjords; Vancouver where we disembark we are using LandSeatours for 2 days--4 hour city tour of Vancouver, Sea to Sky tour and some are going on the Victoria tour. Check these out to see if they are of interest to you. At each port we will explore the actual towns. We are very excited about going and doing all of these wonderful excursions. Enjoy your trip!

  2. Check online at Holland America with your cruise. Click on the itinerary and you can see if they offer extra excursions. On my Holland cruise tour in July is Fairbanks to Seward board ship to Vancouver I found an option to up grade in Anchorage to Seward. The option was to take a bus to Seward leaving early in the morning and taking the Kenai Fjords cruise tour, then we would board the ship at the regular time. Those remaining with the regular schedule take the train sometime around noon to Seward. It was an option we considered doing but decided to remain with the regular schedule going on the train. We have so many other things we are doing at ports and we just cannot do it all. The train reviews I read are very good. Good luck with your decisions.

  3. I totally agree with you. Our trip is booked from July. I can be rest assured that everything is booked for the trip. Now we just need the weather to cooperate. If not I have back up plans. Have a great trip!

  4. We are going a day early in July also to begin our cruise tour in Fairbanks. After doing some research in Fairbanks we plan to tour either the Morris Thomas Cultural center (free admission) or the Museum of the North (fee)

and I found the name of the an interesting park called Pioneer Park. There is also the pipeline tour and a gold mine tour you can check out. Check out these suggestions. I have done the planning and booking our excursions for our group already. So now we can just relax knowing that the things we want to do are booked. The river boat is part of your scheduled tour beginning the next day. Hope you have a great time.

  5. Thanks xlxo after seeing on your thread about Aug 2nd I did my homework.

I changed our tour since it was canceled with Land Seas to their Sea to Sky tour. This company will pick us up right near the cruise ship dock in the morning after we get off the ship, luggage and all. It stays with us all day! Then we will be dropped off at the Blue Horizon not until like 5 or so. I am hoping that the festivities have ended. Do you know if there will be that many people in the city on Aug 3rd or is the parade the end of the festival? I need to find that out so we can decide what to do on that day. Thanks again!

  6. We are disembarking on Aug 2, 2015 and have 2 post days in Vancouver.

We had reserved a city tour with Land Sea Tours but due to the Pride Festival Parade on that day they had to cancel all city tours for the day. Also the HOHO trolley is not recommended to use due to street closures for the day. After getting off the ship we have decided to take the Sea to Sky tour instead. Anyone ever go on this tour before?

  7. This is what we have booked for July on our first trip to Alaska. Check it out:

Juneau--Harv and Marv whale watch/Mendenhall Glacier, Skagway--Trail of 98 tours (they take us all the way up to Emerald Lake with lots of stops), Ketchikan--Island Wings-tour of Misty Fjords and of course explore the towns. Good luck in planning out your trip.

  8. We are going to Alaska in July. After a lot of research and comparing prices we are all booked for our excursions at all 3 ports with private companies. You should decide what you want to do at each port, do some research and make some decisions and then go ahead and book what you want to do. That way you can be rest assured that you get what you want to do reserved. We are all set with our trip and can relax and know the schedule of what we are going to be doing. That is unless the weather is not cooperative and messes up the plans, I have back up ideas in mind if that happens. Good luck with your planning.

  9. Here are some companies to check out in Juneau that you may perhaps want to choose to help you with your time in Juneau. If you choose one of these companies to use, I would book them now for your trip. Good luck and enjoy your trip to Alaska. We are there in July! Looking forward to it!!!

  10. We will be at this places next July. After lots of research and reading reviews, here is what we have booked:

Juneau-whale watch with Harv and Marv Skagway--Trails of 98 tours 7 hour tour up to Emerald Lake Ketchikan--Island Wings 2 1/2 hour tour of Misty Fjords and to just walk all around the town. We are looking forward to our Alaska adventure. Hope you can choose what you want to do and have a fabulous time!

  11. Check out Landsea tours. We have booked the 4 hour Vancouver city tour for when we disembark our cruise ship. They pick us right up at the cruise port and they also take care of our luggage. At the end of the tour they will drop us at the Blue Horizon hotel where we have reservations for 2 nights. They have great reviews. After your tour you can return areas of your choice with the time you have left in the day.

  12. We are going on a cruise tour this summer for the first time with a group of 10 adults. After lots of research and reading reviews I have planned out all of the excursions. You have to decide with the 3 of you what you would like to do at each port. It seems that Juneau is the place to do a whale watch. We are booked with Harv and Marv. We plan to see Mendenhall glacier and maybe do the Mount Robert tramway and explore the town. In Ketchikan we were planning to just walk around the town, they also have a duck tour. We decided to book with Island wings to do the tour of the Misty Fjords. For your son there is a zip line adventure. In Skagway there is the White mountain pass train excursion or you can book with a private company to drive up the Klondike highway. We have booked with Trails of 98 tours take that take us in a private van up the Klondike highway to see all of the sights. Once you make decision of what you want to do at each port, then read the reviews of companies that you are considering booking with. We are not going to Victoria, but touring the historic town and the gardens that are there is very popular. I am very confident with the companies I have personally chosen I hope you have a wonderful trip. Good luck with planning.

  13. Hi there, I am just like you as far as planning goes. I started the beginning of last summer. After hours of research, reading reviews and planning--I made a decision to book Trails of 98 for our group of 10 adults next July. We actually dock in Haines and have to take the ferry from Haines to Skagway and back. So an additional excursion of riding the ferry and costing more money just to do this particular excursion. I wanted to get to see as much of Alaska as possible and this just seemed to be the perfect port to do it at. The reviews of this company and their rating just sold it to me. So we are looking forward to fun and exciting tour! Also, I just accepted the idea that this cruise tour was going be costly, so why not splurge on great excursions?! Good luck with your decision!

  14. While in Skagway next July we are traveling up the Klondike highway to Emerald Lake and back. What exactly are the highlights of the road trip and recommendations of whether or not to visit the dog sled camp and the museum in Caribou Crossing? We are touring museums in Fairbanks before we start our tour. Thanks for your thoughts!

  15. We will be in Juneau next July for the first time. We are booked with Harv and Marv as well. Looking forward to that excursion. You should have time eat, but watch your time and the weather. If the weather is not clear do not bother to take the tram, people said is it not worth the money. And if your time seems tight, just enjoy walking around the town before you head back to the ship.

  16. I certainly agree with you Linda the Book Lover. I really am looking forward to this trip after reading all of the wonderful reviews online. So, I will think positive and look forward to the exciting adventure!

  17. So sorry your trip got canceled. We are booked with Harv and Marv next July. But after reading this I will definitely come up with a back up plan, just in case we need. I am responsible for booking this for 10 people. I guess a good back plan would be tour Mendenhall glacier and the Mount Roberts tramway. Thanks for sharing what happened.

  18. We are going this summer on a cruise tour. I was not sure what shoes to take at all. But I plan to take at least one good pair of sneakers that I spray with water proof spray and then we just purchased a pair of hiking shoes at Columbia outlet. They actually look like a sneaker style but they are a hiking shoe. And then some dress shoes for evening wear. Hope this helps.

  19. We were in Roatan several years ago. I came across a company to use here on cruise critics. It is call Bodden tours. Check it out, you may find something you like. We had a fabulous day with Ali as our guide. The price was so reasonable. He personally took us wherever we wanted to go and showed others things we had not planned on seeing. It was a very memorable day well spent!

  20. Thanks for the reply and the clarification. I do know the correct names of those wonderful places we will see. As I typed it just came out that way and now it will not allow me to edit. But for correction from this post--Misty Fjords and Glacier Bay National Park.

Zqvol--thanks! Surely makes me want to really consider upgrading. We are in Anchorage for over night. Then we head to Seward the next afternoon and board the ship. We begin in Fairbanks, 2 nights in Denali. Plenty still ahead on the cruise and ports. Thanks again.

  21. So glad you are booked with your excursions! Whether you book with the ship or independently you will have a great time for sure. Enjoy your trip. We are booked on the Holland Oosterdam in July. I have done all of the planning and booking for 10 people in our group. Sure hope it all goes as planned! Have a great trip!:)

  22. Advice needed please! We have to option on our Holland cruise tour to leave from Anchorage and take the train to Seward in the afternoon and then board the ship. Or we can upgrade our tour to include kenai Fjords National Park tour. Some of us are doing the Mystic Fjords seaplane tour in Ketchikan and we are seeing Glacier National Park on the cruise. So I am trying to make a decision of whether or not to upgrade. It is an additional $170 per person. Any thoughts? Thanks
