  1. In order for HAL to compete today with other main stream cruise lines and to continue remaining afloat-literally and figuratively-they had to create this new class of ships and I am grateful that they did. Change can be good if we allow ourselves to find the positive in all cruising experiences. Nothing is perfect!

  2. We sailed on the Regal two years ago and we liked some aspects that HAL lacks such as the large Atrium where passengers can dance each night and the International Cafe that is located adjacent. We thought the layout and choices of their Lido were superior. The ship is about 100 feet longer than the Konigsdam and the verandas as stated above are tiny— no couch unless you book a mini suite which is similar to a HAL basic verandah. The food was mediocre at best in their MDR and we had a disappointing meal in their steakhouse—can’t remember the name. We did love Alfredo’s and went their often for lunch and a few dinners. Would we book it again? If the itinerary was such that we couldn’t get with HAL. And we are in love with the Konigsdam and can’t wait to sail on the Nieuw Statendam.

  3. Wondering how common it is to embark at one pier and disembark at another. We were on a b2b recently and that happened but it was a b2b so can see how that could occur. Our next is just 11 days and we will be parking at the Port rather than an off-site lot (which we have ruled out) so don’t want any surprises when we get back. It looks like HAL tends to dock at 18, 21, and 26. Since we have’t driven to the port in many years, do you know if the same parking garage services those piers? Thanks so much!

  4. We were on board Koningsdam last month and current captain and hotel director indicated that they would be moving over to NS. Can't recall full names but Captain was Canadian think his first name was Daryn(?) and hotel director was Don.

We were recently on the Konigsdam and heard the same thing from the Captain himself and the Hotel Director during the Q and A. Wish I could remember their names--they were both great. Also the Cruise Director Carson and the Pinnacle Manager, Martyn were going as well. Wonder who will be taking their places. Actually those people should be on board now as it is my understanding that they were leaving for Palermo soon and may be there now.

  5. The Dutch Cafe on the Konigsdam is heavenly with its sandwiches, pea soup, and decadent desserts particularly the Konigsbol--a cream puff filled with chantilly cream and covered in chocolate! They have snacks, breakfast items and lunch along with a bar and coffee drinks. One of our favorite places on the ship due to its decor and choices.

  6. RE: Koningsdam - any complaints of more-than-normal vibration on this ship? Have read some reviews with complaints of vibration. Stateroom is deck 4 near the aft of the ship.

Didn't experience anything out of the ordinary and we were on 5 aft. Felt some when we were docking and not all the time. You should enjoy your time on this wonderful ship.
