  1. ...... what would you be if you were liike most of the other folks who typically get this hotel at 35-40% off?<grin>

Less euphoric, as you got it for 49.7% off. But, I know what you mean, I've also gotten rooms for close to 70% off. Those days are becoming fewer and fewer, although if the economy continues the way it's been going, maybe they will be coming back.

  2. I'm still trying for my March 7th at a *** in San Pedro. When I bid $65, they keep telling me to increase the offer by $17!

Bid $70 the next day, if that is refused, add your free rebid zone, and bid $73. That should probably work. When Priceline makes that offer, you can get a hotel for $82 that probably lists for around $130. But, we have found that you can ususally get it for less than their original counter-offer.

It is a posibile the Crown Plaza has no availability, and you may end up with the DoubleTree.

  3. ......I was wanting some tips on how to bring beer on board.

I guarantee that my method works everytime, on every cruiseline. Just pop 'em and pound 'em, before you board. Carry it on internally. Makes for a very exciting sail-away, but the next morning is a little tough. :D

  4. We have reservations at the Downtown Courtyard Marriott for our October Legend cruise. Does anyone have any information about this area and places to eat or see? It's located on 102 E. Cass Street. We would like to get over to Channelside if we could.

    Here are some links:

  5. HockeyFamilyCruisers -The Courtyard and Residence Inn are close to the HoJo .............. You would have to get a cab to find eating places or go down to the Channelside complex.

The Courtyard, and Residence Inn have a shuttle that will take you to the aquarium, Channelside, the port, and Ybor(So you can eat at Columbia.) The Residence also has the usual breakfast, if interested. No shuttle from the airport, have to use a taxi.

  6. Won the Best Western Tuscan Inn on Fisherman's Wharf today thru Priceline. Needed three rooms for June 15, 2008, pre Dawn Princess cruise. First bid of $60 was rejected. Added a rebid zone, upped the bid to $65, and won at that price. The AAA rate was $215.10 for that night. This rate is about 70% off the AAA price. Incidentally, the Hotwire price for that night was $105.

  7. The Hyatt and Sheraton would require a taxi cab to Ybor or Channelside.

Still downtown, but on the opposite corner of the downtown area from Channelside, is the Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott. You would need a taxi just to go to dinner if you stay at these two.

The Residence and Courtyard have a shuttle that will take you to Ybor, and the pier. The Sheraton used to have one, I don't know for sure if they still do.

If you like Irish music and food, we found an Irish pub downtown, thatched roof and all, Four Green Fields. It's also in range of the hotels shuttles.

  8. I checked into a few van/limo services and they were -ok- but nothing special. any ideas there? I think someone posted that a Cab was in the $20 range - is there additional cost for more then one passenger.

The price for a taxi is, or was last spring, $22 flat rate, that's from the airport to downtown. Likewise, the same rate applies from pier to airport. That is for one person to as many as they will take. (Most cities will only allow five people per fare.) Van taxis are quite common in Tampa, so you don't have to worry about how much luggage you have. Our group of four and luggage will not fit in a regular taxi, without holding things on our laps. Using taxis would be an advantage, if your party is coming from different locations, and arriving at different times.

We stayed at the Residence Inn, would recommend it to you, but don't know anything about the Hampton Inn. Got rooms for $65 per night on Priceline. That was for the single rooms, but still less than Hampton Inn or less than half of the Residence.

  9. .... I finally gave in and extended my area to include Tampa airport area and it gave me a counter offer which I have never seen happen before. I bid $51 and it told me I could submit a bid with the same criteria without waiting till tomorrow if I was willing to raise my bid by $14. .... Bottom line, it did go through.....

For future reference, when you recieve a counter offer, and you have a free rebid left, bid less than half of what the counter offer was. In most cases, it will be accepted. We have won some bids after a counter, by adding only $3. If you don't have any free rebids left, you can always take the chance that waiting 24 hours will give you a winning bid.

  10. So I can get this right, when you guys bid for the Crowne, the amount you put in was 65.00 correct? Then the fees were added after your bid was accepted?

Yes, this is correct. Taxes and fees will be added after acceptance of your bid. This is all you will have to pay, unless your hotel has a 'resort fee', which will be billed at the hotel.

Since you are an Okie, and not a buckeye, I will give you a little help. The best advice I can give you is to go to http://www.biddingfortravel.com and study the website, both forwards and backwards. Next some quick advice for bidding tomorrow. Bid for a 3* hotel in San Pedro. If this is refused, Priceline will ask you to change something. When this is asked, add "Long Beach Airport Area", and bid again, with a higher dollar value. At present that area has no 3* or above hotels, since Priceline won't downgrade a certain star bid, you are safe by doing this. In effect it is a free rebid. But, this should be checked every time you bid, as hotels are always being added. This can be done in "Step 2", in the bidding process, by individually checking each available area for what star ratings are available there.

Good Luck! Remember that you may also get the DoubleTree in San Pedro, which is also a 3* that has been won on Priceline.

  11. Just wanted to report that we stayed at the Downtown Residence Inn on Feb 17 and 18. Taxi fare was a flat rate of $22 from the airport to downtown, also the same from pier to airport. Got to the hotel about 7:00 pm. No bellmen, but did have luggage carts. We were met with very friendly and helpful people at the desk. Had clean one bed studio suites on floor five. We paid $65/night through Priceline. (There was also a single pullout.) The desk directed us to a bar(The Hub), with takeout spirits and beer, about two blocks away. Went there and had a couple, and brought some back. Ordered from Domino's across the the street, and they were at the door in less than 30 minutes. There was a breakfast bar in the morning with hot and cold servings. That evening the hotel shuttled us to the Columbia in Ybor City, and then picked us up when we were done with a great dinner. They also shuttled us to the pier on the 19th. Be sure to sign up at check-in.

I believe this area was once not too desiralbe, but looks like it is on the comeback trail. It has a lot of construction of high rise apartments going on. It is also across from the performing arts center.

Thank you all who have contributed to making this the best hotel/city information center on Cruise Critic.:D

  12. Also, we are catching a performance on that night at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. How far away are we from that? Good neigbhorhood? Any help, suggestions or thoughts would be most appreciated.

There is a Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn a couple of blocks away from the Performing Arts Center. That is where we are staying pre-cruise in February. Got the Residence for $65/night through Priceline. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/TPATD They have a local shuttle within three miles, which includes the cruise pier and Ybor City. It will cost about $20-25 for a taxi to the hotel, then about the same from the pier to the airport.
