  1. If you leave the auto tips on your onboard account, the crew member can keep any extra cash given them. If auto tips are removed, any extra cash is then pooled.

My opinion, cash is the most appreciated as they can do what they want/ need to with it.

I agree and that's what we do. I see cruisers post that they bring something from home, snacks, crafts, etc. They may feign appreciation but they are working on the ships for $$$$$ and that's the best way to reward them.

  2. We have sailed on Celebrity with their drink package. The "classic" package is the same price as Princess' package, and includes drinks up to $8. Most people are taking this as their free "perk" but we chose to take a different one this time. On our port intensive cruise, we found we spent an average of $50/day for the two of us, which is half the cost of the package. And we had wine every night at dinner, a few martinis throughout the week, some margaritas and beers, and water at each port. So we decided that we had made out better taking the $400 credit this time.

We also noted that this cruise (our 4th on the same ship) there were fewer venues to purchase drinks and fewer bartenders at each venue or walking around the pool to get you to buy them. Guess Celebrity is trying to limit the amount people are drinking.

It will be interesting to see if Princess goes with the AI package as a "perk" option as Celebrity did. We spoke to several people who said they booked Celebrity because of the free beverage package. Guess we'll have to see.

Interesting observation. Offer drink packages (free?) and then stop the drink hawking they usually do to make it more difficult for you to get one.

  3. I would urge you to make sure that your mother's insurance does cover her time in Canada. I work in a hospital in a high tourist area in BC and I'm astounded at the number of Americans who do not carry travel insurance for Canada. Even if the insurance rate sounds astonishingly high, the charge for an emergency room visit starts at almost $800 and blood work and x-rays are on top of that. Hospitals in BC do not deal with medical insurance – all costs must be paid for by cash or credit card and the patient then submits the claims to their insurance company. Only if the patient is admitted to hospital, does the hospital deal with the insurance company directly.

This is excellant advice and I too would urge you to follow through with it. Good luck.

  4. Have done this several times (I think 6) on 3 different lines. Have also driven from Valley Forge to Montreal and Quebec many times. Mostly in September. Last time drove all the way up to PIE. One of our best vacations ever.

Weather can range from hot to cold. Probably will be comfortable. Best bet is to have the option of several layers of clothing. There's a good chance you won't need the cold weather option.

By all means keep your balcony, especially if you haven't been there before.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  5. We had the new Mariner's luncheon menu. YUMMMM!!!!!! Everyone at our table had enough of the selection that I could get feedback from everyone and we all agreed that it was very good :) And I do mean tasty. The dessert was a killer - delicious. Mine very rich and sweet (and since I am sweet enough I only had 1/2 - LOL) but everyone else finished theirs off. The sparkling wine flowed at the luncheon and no one did without.

Can you post the menu or give highlights?

    Enjoying your review.

  6. Can anyone explain the difference between a cruise credit and an on board credit? I know I have cruise credits and I know how I got them. I also have on board credits and have no idea how I got them. I assume they would be for spending on board but again have no idea where they came from.
