  1. I was in 4550. I booked it 3 days before it left, so I got the last outside cabin. However, I've never known a cruise line to redo just one floor of cabins unless it was suites or something.

I enjoyed the cruise. Good ports. Maybe my cabin was in worse shape than most. Adding 2 pictures so people don't think I am crazy or overly picky. One thing next to my bed and one of the chair. If you look at the right side of the cushion on the chair, the seam is completely ripped open.

Sorry your cabin was on the shabby side. I have sailed on the Spirit 3 times and loved the ship.

Did a 21 day cruise on the Dawn last fall and found it disappointing after the much hyped redo. Sure many of the public areas looked updated, but overall the effect was not one of a true upgrade. Actually it was sad and somewhat depressing when you've been expecting more. Our cabin was worn, service was inconsistent, food quality and quantity seemed to have gone down a few notches. It wasn't a bad cruise, but it just wasn't the experience I've had with other NCL ships.

So I'm doing some looking around and think my next cruise will be with another line.

  2. If you are not changing cabins, you can just leave everything. You will be given instructions as to where to meet and led off the ship, clear Customs and be escorted right back on board before the next embarkation begins. It is really a simple process. Enjoy.

www3traveler is right. As long as you are NOT changing cabins it will take only a few minutes. Very pleasant and easy experience. Even if you do need to change cabins a steward will help you so it will be a quick and easy transfer.

  3. Back in 2011 when we took a cruise on the Carnival Valor, guests couldn’t serve themselves bacon from the buffet. There was a cook serving pieces of bacon to each guest. Naturally you could go up more than once. At the time I think it was a cost cutting measure. I don’t know if that was ship specific but I seem remember Cruise Critic members complaining on the Carnival forum about not being able to serve yourself bacon.

If you look at my signature you’ll notice that was the only cruise I took on Carnival. Coincidence? Maybe…and maybe not.

"There was a cook serving pieces of bacon to each guest. Naturally you could go up more than once."

On our second and last Carnival cruise these folks were serving one piece of bacon at a time! We were soon referring to these folks as the Bacon Police.

  4. Thanks for your responses. I'm trying to have a good attitude. But knowing I love the large ships with all the bells and whistles, it's a bit of a challenge. But this is the only ship that will give us those 3 days to watch the America's Cup. I know this is not my last cruise.

We'll have a great 3 days in Bermuda and make the most of our other days at sea. Knowing my dh won't cruise without his flowrider, I think it will be more of a challenge for him. Wishing the breakaway would have worked, but it didn't.

It's a cruise, and better than being home! But I found this date on this ship is so much more money than we normally spend! And we cruise on the large ships on Royal...oh well.

I'll bring a good book to read by the pool :D

    You have the right attitude!

Last fall I was on the Dawn for 21 days and mostly everything was OK. But sorry to say I might not sail on the Dawn again. The crew was excellent. But the Dawn just seemed tired to me even after the drydock.

Bermuda is so lovely there is no way you won't enjoy your trip and the America's Cup.

  5. Just a few questions:

This will be my first time flying home the same day we disembark. Is 11am too early?

More importantly, is there a drink machine at the port of NOLA?

Usually 11 am is not too early if you self disembark. I was off the Dawn in NOLA by 8 am and took a shuttle to the airport for $20.00 and arrived by 8:30 and was waiting in the terminal for 2 hours for my 11 am flight in November. But do keep in mind that weather, traffic, problems on the Mississippi, etc. can cause delays.

I don't believe you would be able to brink drinks onboard. But nonalcoholic beverages will be available at the port.

  6. Yes they are really annoying, more so in the hands of a child! We use sticky notes left in the cabin to communicate most of the time. There is always the phone, lots around the ship to call your cabin.

Good suggestions.................free for you and rudeness free!:)

  7. My DD did this excursion on a visit there last year. They gave her hotdogs to feed the pigs. They are much larger than the pigs she saw on the You Tube videos. After the pig snatches the Hotdog she had to steer their head away so the pig would move on. She was a little nervous in the water with them.

Another good reason to stay on the ship in the Bahamas or better yet completely avoid the Bahamas.

  8. A friend told me a story of a man that she knew who went on a Carribean cruise and when his wife came to port to pick him up....he never showed. He had passed away in a cabin by himself and Norwegian notified the TRAVEL AGENT!

The TA did not notify the family and the wife was to learn that her husband was in a Miami morgue.

Honestly....this just happened. I don't know the family, but my friends do and I will ask them to post here.

This is not only brutal and unacceptable...... it is inhumain.

Were the police involved? In my experience the police are notified when there is an unwitnessed death aboard. The body is then turned over to the local coroner and cannot be released until an autopsy is completed. All official investigations, documents, etc. will be handled at the final port. If the unfortunate man did not chose to have his wife, relative or close friend notified in the event of an emergency, then perhaps the only contact number that NCL had was the TA.

Something is missing here and the only certainty is sadly a life lost.

  9. I think what you're missing is the fun component....

remember a few years ago there was a conversation about Maple Syrup... I read about it and it was hilarious.... with the pig on the spit and spit on the deck and deck on the ship and the ship on the sea.... and the Maple Syrup on everything... or something like that...

    Cheers,

Could be wrong but I believe that the Maple Syrup thread began with the "Bacon Police" and it was fun!

  10. Glad to know I'm not alone. And, Corley05 could you send your cleaning lady over?

Actually just finished one of my list of many things I dislike cleaning. That beep beep ceramic stove top. I will never have another ceramic stove. Children need constant care, but oven tops should not!

Amazon package just arrived so I'll take a break for few minutes.

  11. 10 days until we sail!!!!!

Must need 20 cause I'm really procrastinating.

Got my hair done, think I've bought everything I need, had the yard winterized and all sorts of little things. But I keep putting off the one job I don't want to do. When I come home from vacation I want my home to be in order. Who wants to come home from a great vacation to a messy house? Right now I'm eyeing my kitchen and know it needs some elbow grease, but I just cannot get motivated. Guess I'll just start small and hope motivation arrives soon.

Is it just me or do others feel this way?

  12. I've lived in Florida most of my life and I recommend you not drive to Miami. You are on the road with evacuees and this is a massive and destructive storm. Personal safety for yourself and others should take priority.

NCL should really offer booked passengers (insurance or no) an opportunity to move to another date without penalty. No, they don't have to do it, but with this killer storm, they should.

I have to agree. We went through Katrina and for several days the roads if passable for open for emergency personal only. Because my husband had an emergency id from the hospital where he worked we could travel and get home. We arrived home to many trees down, damaged roof, no electricity, etc. We were among the lucky our home could be repaired and we were safe. Yes, it was hot, gas difficult to find and the National Guard in the grocery stores making sure people were not hoarding what little food was available

A few days after we got home (husband living at hospital) my brother-inlaw died. My husband very much wanted to go to the funeral but it was impossible. There were no flights and so many roads impassable that it was impossible for him to go.

I can understand why you wish to try, but it will be very difficult if not impossible.

Hope all goes well for everyone and NCL responds with compassion and flexibility.

  13. NCL is very good at keeping weather alerts current. This was posted this afternoon at ncl.com :

Hurricane Matthew Update - Wednesday, Oct 5 at 2:00 pm ET (6:00 pm UTC)

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance. We are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean.

All of our ships are currently sailing as scheduled. Our nautical operations team has identified alternate routes for ships that are scheduled to sail near where the storm may pass in the coming days, in the event that itineraries need to be adjusted to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our guests and crew.

At this time, there is no change to embarkation for Norwegian Sky on Friday, October 7 and Norwegian Escape on Saturday, October 8. Should there be any changes, guests will be advised via phone and text messages and updated information will be posted on http://www.ncl.com.

We ask our guests to continue to monitor NCL.com for any further storm updates

  14. I fell hard in the summer of 2000 when our family was vacationing in St. Thomas. The Norway was in the harbor in all her glory. Other ships were docked and all those people looked so happy on their balconies.

Later that day we were on Morning Star beach having dinner. I watched the cruise ships slowly form a parade and leave St. Thomas. Continued watching until they disappeared and could no longer see the lights.

From that day on the only vacation I was truly interested in was a cruise. I did have to wait until our 25th anniversary. But we had such a wonderful time we were book hooked and soon we were including the children. DD and DSL love cruising and honeymooned on the Pearl. We are working on DS and hopefully our trip to Bermuda will win him over.

Currently my family resides in the US, Asia and Europe and we are thinking of meeting up for a Christmas cruise next year. Now that's my idea of the best holiday. Everyone together (when they wish!) and celebrating the holiday. Mom can relax and not even think of keeping everyone happy and spending most of the day in the kitchen:)
