  1. Correct, it's the select package that only covers wine up to $8 and no liquor.

Maybe someone can help me understand, but I find the drink packages easy enough to understand - I don't get why people get so confused?? What am I missing?

I'm with you. I'm going to print out the details of my plan before I go in case I get any push back but I know what I paid for!

  2. We sailed on the Oasis on March 28th. Both my husband and I had the premium drink package. It was a toss up as to whether or not it would be worth it but in the end decided the convenience of paying for it ahead of time pushed me over. When we purchased it supposedly it covered drinks up to $10 were covered. When we were on board, it was advertised as drinks up to $8 were covered. I thought...let's see how this plays out... even though martinis, which I was drinking were $12 in Champagne bar, I was never charged extra. All week with the drink package neither my husband or I were charged the difference for drinks above the package price. We did tip extra at the bars and had great service throughout the cruise.

As far as I can see the Premium covers up to $12 cocktails and wine.

  3. So I'm a first time NCL cruiser who was cruising with a group of 11 for both my sister's 30th birthday and my 33rd. Overall, the Breakaway was a beautiful ship and we had a great time (I don't think you can have a bad time on a cruise).

The food (at the pay restaurants) was excellent - we ate at Cagney's, Italian, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki, Sushi, Ocean Blue on the Waterfront (the walk up window) and Shanghai's. We had a bit of an issue with service in Cagney's but after complaining, it was pretty quickly rectified. I think sit down dinner wise - Le Bistro was my favorite. A la carte - the Sushi. They definitely do not skimp on the size of their rolls which I was really happy with. If you like sake, it's better cold.

The free sit down restaurants were pretty disappointing - especially in service. Dinner the first night for 11 in the Manhattan room was very disorganized and the servers were definitely not up to par with what we have come to expect in cruising. 2nd night we tried Savor - better service, but still had to hunt down the servers to get a drink order in.

I'll definitely add more during the week, but wanted to get this started and see if any other recent or upcoming NCL newbies had questions :)

  4. Who said you can't sit and listen to the music? Perfectly acceptable...

Think of this... If you're sitting in a bar that has a juke box, you can sit and listen to it all night long. If you want to pick the songs, you need to put some money in. Simple...

    Perfect Analogy!!

It's not simple at all! Howl at the Moon is nothing like putting money in a juke box. If you put money in a juke box, you get to hear the songs that you paid for. If you give the Howl at the Moon guys $20 to play your song, but someone else gives them $25 not to play it, you don't get to hear your song, and you just wasted $20. I never heard of juke box that doesn't play what you want if someone runs up to it and puts in more money than you did. Did you?

If I put $25 in a jukebox and then someone comes along to pay extra to get their songs played first, it's the same thing. Especially if their songs are still playing when the bar closes :)

  5. I was not talking about the list prices but the actual cost for NCL. If we'd assume that no drink would cost more than $2 to NCL, $49 paid by the customer would cover at least 24 drinks a day, most likely almost double the amount, before the deal wouldn't be profitable for the cruise line.

    Ahhhh! I see.

Honestly though, there was this one guy on Princess in 2009, who I bet may have :D:D:D:D

  6. When a passenger pays them $49 a day, the passenger would have to order more alcohol than they can physically consume in order to make the deal not worth it for NCL. Even if passenger could get over the profitability limit of NCL on one day, nobody can keep drinking like that for several days in a row.

So when people say that they have barely benefited from the package, NCL has only given them a very small discount at that point and one would have to drink a lot, lot more in order to actually make a difference with NCL's profit what comes to bar revenues and UBP revenue.

I've met people who can and do consume about $49 or more every day of the cruise on every single cruise line I've been on.

  7. I'm curious of the nationality of the posters - not trying to be snarky by any means.

I'm leaving on Sunday and my DH and I are pretty picky about our Italian food. We were both brought up with Italian mothers in the NYC area :)

The menu looks fabulous and the fact that it's only $15 makes it really appealing!

  8. Usually about 1-2 day drinks, then some pre-dinner cocktails, wine with dinner and drinks at the casino or nightclub til the wee hours ;)

DH and I average about $75 per person per day on drinks. Drink prices are pretty much what we're used to paying at home and much less if we make the quick trip to NYC.

We're still debating on bringing wine on board for our first NCL cruise next week. Also probably going to try to get some Bacardi Torched Cherry on for DH (NCL doesn't carry it :( )

  9. This entire thread is about Mich Ultra which is an Anheuser Busch product.

Here is a beer menu from O'Sheehan's on the Getaway. Both Miller Lite and Bud products are listed. It will all be okay, folks.
