  1. It is my understanding that Elite and Elite Plus receive a percent discount for specialty restaurant bookings.  If true, how do you get the discount? If booking online it doesn't appear to note that you are Elite or Elite Plus to receive the discount.  Must you wait until boarding to receive the discount?  Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Eating in Blu is worth the Aqua Class upgrade in and of itself!  It's so relaxing to start your morning eating breakfast with white tablecloths and by servers who already know what you want!  The afternoon snacks are nice too as well as water being replenished each day.

  3. On about our third or fourth cruise my husband was headed to get some soft serve ice cream and was getting on the elevator.  Two mature ladies asked him where the theatre was and he told them what deck and that is was aft.  One of the ladies replied "which elevators take you to the front and back of the ship?"  He only laughed and told them to let him know if they figured it out!!

I emailed MGM all the relevant information and the match was completed in a few days: memberservices@mgmresorts.com

I don't know if it can be done in person.

What would be consider relevant information other than Capt Club # and Elite Status?  Thanks for your help!

    This past January:

St. Lucia...we did the Wonders of Nature Celebrity excursion...most of the day...we did a nice hike followed by a stop at a waterfall.

Barbados...we did the Barbados Beach Break Celebrity excursion...nice beach, but not much time there.  Our excursion of choice is the Calabaza catamarran, but couldn't do it as independent tours were not allowed at that time.  If you have the chance and don't need to remain in the bubble, give it a try.

Antigua...we went horseback riding (sorry, don't remember the name of the excursion, but it was a Celebrity excursion).  Loved it!  After our ride of about 45 minutes on very tame horses, we went back to the starting point and the guides brought the horses into the water for a photo op.  There was about 45-60 minutes to spend at the beach after that.

St. Kitts...we booked the Carambola Beach Club Celebrity excursion, but that was cancelled because of a private group taking over the beach!  If you get a chance, do it!  We switched it out for the Celebrity Fan-Ta-Sea catamarran which was great.  There was a snorkel stop and then a sail to Nevis for some beach time.  Highly recommend.

    Enjoy!

For the Carambola Beach Club celebrity excursion do you know what was included? Chair and umbrella rental, lunch, etc?  Not much detail on the website but for $40 pp figured not much included.  Any idea what a private day pass there costs?  Thanks!!

Sure thing h - YET The Edge is Our ship as we followed that one from the initial announcement of the build to its' launch...

We had great times way back then in speculation, visual and film process of the ship and etc...

Not that The Apex is not just as, if not more wonderful and beautiful as Mr_T's blog and photos are proving...

Mr_T keep it coming and thanks!!!

    ma

    bon voyage buddy

That was of the most fun I have had on Cruise Critic.  The anticipation and conjecture surrounding The Edge made for riveting conversations and speculation.  We had some people in the know who amazed me with the detail they could gather from a grainy, far off photo.  Thanks for reminding me how exciting that time was!

    Cruise 2 day 4 - Messina

welcome to Messina everybody 😊 we are halfway through this cruise 😢

As they require anyone wanting to get off in Messina to do a ship excursions we decided to stay on the ship, we will not do ship excursions again after previous ones we’ve tried years ago, some people love them a lot of people hate them and we’re definitely in the later group 😂 I’ve ranted about this on other threads, I just don’t see how I’m considered to be safer vs doing a private tour vs a full bus tour! 🤷🏼‍♂️

As our suite experience was cut short we are very happy to stay onboard and may well do so for Palma & Valencia also as we’ve been a few times already so for us 4 days of suite life is ahead of us,  to be honest our main reason to get off in Palma was to get a gelato... 😂 but maybe that can wait... 😜

On a personal note  we’ve not been to Messina before so hopefully we get the opportunity to come back and see it, it is actually on our bucket list to visit on a land base vacation so maybe we’ll just wait for that to happen 😊

What in Messina would you like to have seen?  We are scheduled to be there in 2022.  Would love to know what is not to be missed/seen/done.  Thanks

Debbie, you started an identical thread in August 2019:

At that time, you concluded that you were going to book both a British Isles and a Baltic cruise because you couldn't decide. You also made reference to not wanting to start your cruise in "a crowded, high crime big city", which might limit choices.

Could you go through your earlier thread and tell us whether your thoughts have changes at all. Are British and Baltic cruises still your top choices, or are you completely open to other ideas? CC members are always willing to help out, but if you were set on booking those two itineraries just over a year ago, what has changed?

First I want to thank everyone for such thoughtful, informative answers.  This group is the best!! We have done some additional research and have narrowed it down to a Rome to Rome  10 night on the Edge, a 7 night Venice to Rome on the Infinity or a 9 night Venice to Rome on the Constellation.  We will visit the embarkation and departing cities for 2-3 days each.  The Edge is more expensive and we aren't sure we will utilize the ship to warrant the extra money.  We typically like longer cruises (10 nights +).

  9. We have been on many cruises but are planning our first cruise to Europe.  Have a few questions: Please rank in importance - ship, ports, number of days, time of year.  If paper guides are still used, anyone have a recommendation for a good travel guide?  Should we consider using a travel agent for our first venture or do you tend to learn more about what you are going to see by doing the research on your own?  This may be a one-time trip so we want to get it right.  Thanks

  10. You typically choose Select dining when you book your cabin.  If not eating in Blu or Luminae you will be assigned one of the 4 MDRs but you can book in any of the other three as well as any of the specialty restaurants as soon as you can get in your Cruise Planner on the website.  Have booked ours for 2021.

  11. Have always wondered what the difference between the various categories inside of a particular cabin type mean.  Is it location only or other particulars?  Also which is the higher grade cabin C1 or C3?  I also never can tell by looking at the deck plans what the cabin level is (1,2, or 3).  Any help there is appreciated.

I believe that's only for Celebrity. That may be best posted on the Celebrity board, rather than the ports of call boards. 😉

I do apologize! I thought I was on the roll call for my upcoming cruise.

Hello SCGirl - our friends did go to Eagle Beach - were not too happy - all umbrellas and chairs sold out by 9:00 am but I suppose that depends on how many ships are in port that day. She actually wanted to go to Surfside but taxi driver coaxed them into going to Eagle. You might want to consider a different option or be sure to get there early!

Thanks will check how many other ships will be in port and use that info to make our decision.  My DH absolutely must have shade of some sort!
