Any hotels offering day passes - we would want shady place to sit, nice pool?

If we head to Eagle Beach we would be looking for a beach bar that rents umbrellas / chairs - CocoLoco? When we want to return to ship, will bar call a taxi for us? - we would prefer not to stand and wait for bus. Do you think we could ask the taxi that takes us to the beach to return for us at a set time?

Did you ever get your questions answered.  Going in March and would like to go to Eagle Beach on our own as well.  Have you already been on your cruise and perhaps be able to provide some direction.  Thanks in advance.

  2. Just wanted to post this morning on our roll call about the passing of vtcruising.  I still cannot believe the news! As saddened as I feel about never seeing a post from Marilyn or now not getting to meet her in person, I cannot even imagine the pain her close friends and family must be feeling.  What a legacy she leaves behind! She was a wealth of cruising information, always so very kind and inclusive.  Following her and hcat during the building of the Edge was a daily delight for me and I learned so much information from them both.  It totally enhanced my trip onboard the Edge.  I knew so many tricks and tips that I could spend my precious time onboard exploring and enjoying the great artwork and installations! Rest in peace vtcruising!  CC has lost a very valuable member.

  3. Seeing the picture of the tenders being loaded on the Apex made we wonder if the Edge tenders are still not being utilized as much as everyone thought they would be.  I have only seen or heard of a few occasions when they were used.  It seems as if when it would be possible to use them, they have not been used because of less than perfect conditions.  I also read that the water height has to bee just right.  Anyone have any additional or updated information on the tender usage?

Saw this Wellness on the Waves ad for the Apex Preview Cruise on 4/1/19. The Preview Cruise apparently is a spa-themed cruise. Celebrity is partnering with Spabreaks.com. I don't think this means that the Spa on the Apex will be an Elysium Collection spa - it was a bit confusing.

It also mentioned an outdoor pool in the list of spa amenities.  Is that something new for the spa? Don't remember an outdoor pool attached to the spa on Edge  We did love the spa though...especially the heated loungers and the steam rooms.

I’m not sure either. I’ve never been to Europe. I travel from Philly and just did an Alaskan cruise last month with several days before and after in Seattle. I have a feeling it will cost around the same. I’m thinking $4k total.

I think Sauspud had a great idea to do some dummy booking for cruise and flights! We were thinking in the 4k-5k range.  It also depends on how many days pre and post cruise we choose to stay.  Thanks

  6. Just wanted to check in and let my fellow roll callers know we survived Dorian here in Charleston, SC.  Lots of gusty winds and tons of rain and we lost power for 30 hours, but we are up a running again now!! Hope everyone in this hurricane's path in the US is slowly getting up and running.  Prayers and support for the people in the Bahamas!

What a beauty! I’ve been faithful to NCL since 2012, but have been determined to sail Apex next year. It’s time to switch it up. Saving up to book the Mediterranean cruise.

We are looking at this cruise as well.  Any idea what a realistic budget for this type of cruise would be?  Would include airfare from the US. We  have only cruised Caribbean cruises and want to branch out.  Not sure where to start as far as budgeting.

I loved our first Mediterranean cruise, and felt it was a great overview and first European cruise. It was R/T from Barcelona, and hit a couple of stops along the French Riviera and several stops along Italy. We spent 3 nights pre-cruise in Barcelona and really enjoyed that city immensely.

We have since been to Greece, and the Greek Isles and also LOVED that trip (including Ephesus in Turkey). Santorini was my absolute favorite--you're sailing inside an ancient caldera and looking up at the white-washed buildings atop the 900 foot high walls of the ancient volcano! Amazing scenery!

In both cases, the shoulder seasons of April/May and Sept/Oct are quieter and less expensive (and less hot!)

Thank you for your help.  The Greek Isles are tops on our list! Are also considering the British Isles.

I would imagine many of your Caribbean cruises started in Miami surely that’s a crowded high crime big city!

No actually we sail out of Ft Lauderdale.  We stay pre-cruise in Palm Beach.  Just have read a lot about pickpockets and petty criminals in some big cities.  Not saying we don't have them in the US, just know if we have that type of experience on our first European cruise, I will never get my husband to go on another one!

  10. My husband and I have cruised on 15 cruises mostly to the Caribbean.  We are looking to expand our travel by booking a European cruise.  Offer us some suggestions for a good cruise to start with.  We don't really want to start in a crowded, high crime big city...that we know.  Any suggestions would be wonderful. We enjoy history, museums, and eating local foods. Also what would be the best time to travel to whatever area you suggest.  We prefer to travel during off season times but with our first trip we will bow to the experts!!

This is great.  It makes me think of our favorite bartender, Adrian.   Met him a few years ago at the Reflection's Martini Bar.  He is on the Edge now.  If any of you are sailing her soon, stop in and say hi to Adrian  from Linda.  😃

We love Adrian!! He is not only a super bartender he is a fun-loving person. Have enjoyed him on Edge and Reflection.

  12. Following this thread as we are

booked on Apex as well. Sailed Edge

last March and loved that ship! I agree with several posters that major structural changes shouldn’t be expected but hoping for some minor design changes such as wind barrier for RTG and MC and some furniture changes/improvements. Looking forward to new art installations to enjoy!

  13. Are you writing a book? Putting together a new site? Are you a TA?

I wish I had the talent to write a book or a blog but alas not! I’m not a TA either though sometimes I wish I had gone in to that business. I actually just really enjoy the planning process and knew others on CC could/would teach me a few new things.

  14. sorry for jumping on this post but I couldn't figure out how to add a new thread. it kinda relates so here goes. Second cruise coming up in Nov, first with Celebrity. I've been checking out the various restaurants on the Celebrity website. however, every time I click on the Tuscan Grille it saws "this page no longer exist" I'm hoping this is a sight issue and that the restaurant is still open. any info on Grille would be appreciated; opened? if so description.

    thanks

I don’t know what ship you will be on but I believe almost (if not all) ships have Tuscan Grille. It is described as an Italian Steakhouse. Has normal Italian choices with some specialty dishes. It is typically located on the aft of the ship. Serves lunch and dinner and they often hold Elite breakfast there.

  15. We are sailing March 3rd and Have thus far been faithfully reading and studying any and all info/photos re Edge. We have booked all our speciality and MDR reservations. Our typical cruise timeframe is 10-14 days so we are driving to Florida a few days early to enjoy the pool/beach and get in vacay mode as soon as possible. I truly enjoy the planning process and very shortly want to make a list/outline of everything I want us to see and experience on the Edge. We are doing a beach excursion on Nachi Cocom. The other ports we will likely be staying on the ship.
