  1. To the OP: here are the sides that were available on my Jewel cruise a year ago. It's very possible that some of the items have changed, but it should give you a decent idea of what to expect.

    Roasted bell peppers

    Sopressata

    Celery & pear salad

Fruit salad w/ yogurt and chili flakes

    Potato shrimp salad

    Corn, pecan nuts

    Gemelli pasta

Cucumber, tomato & feta cheese salad

    Apple, red beet salad

    Portuguese beans soup

    Portobello mushrooms

    Tuna salad

    Milano

    Brie

    Grape leaves

    Abruzzese

    Palm hearts

    Chorizo cantimpala

Great list...AND I think you solved my mystery...the dish I remember was the pear/clelery salad...(yougrt like dressing I believe!)..

  2. Hi Barb - you may remember me from Norwegian Dawn and Epic a few years ago

Have a great cruise on Breakaway, especially with Hugo (have not sailed with Prem, so cannot comment).

Could you try and find out the reason for the recent mid-cruise captain switch?

    Ursula

just to jump in...we sailed with Prem...on one of our very first NCL cruises years ago...:)...he was great.....

  3. On the Gem last fall...there were 2 Lattitudes parties....(according to level)....we did not attend this time....we noticed that the times were cut...parties were posted as 30-40 minutes long ...I remember when they were an hour....which was nice....kind of seems not enough time to have 30 minutes to line up, greet staff, sit and get a drink/snack...then time to leave:confused:

  4. If indeed Moderno is moved..I will be happy !!! On the Gem...we had our dining experience start off with very loud and annoying art auction pitch that was going on in the atrium below........It was not pleasant at all......(I found out later ..he was not supposed to be still presenting...running late....but I am sure it happens more often than not!)

  5. Hello shepherdqueen

Just came off the Gem , upon arrival we met with a dietitian (Jeph) discuss our plan for the week, Every night we would select our menu for the next day . Jeph is responsible for both mdr and all speciality restaurant . you will have no problem eating at the speciality restaurant.

Jeph is GREAT !!!!!! They should clone him for every NCL ship !!!!

(great help for DH in MDR and specialty....no problems at all)

  6. wow, that is an extremely generous obc.

But for ncl to match the price difference at 50% obc is sensational. I would love to know your pcc. I am really happy for you. I don't remember hearing anyone scoring that much obc for a price drop.

Congratulations! Now go and have a great cruise!

    i agree...!!!

  7. "From what I understand' date=' the stock holders OBC is nearly impossible to combine with any other offers/promotions"

Applied for the stock holders OBC and was denied because the price I paid was part of a very obscure promotion, no OBC was involved.

It appears it is almost impossible to qualify for the OBC[/quote']

    that is a bummer....:(

  8. I love love love NCL and thought this little poem up. Sharing it here.

At the break of Dawn I want to Breakaway & Getaway on a brand new adventure. I want to reach for the Sun and Star shining so brightly in the Sky like a Jewel, a Gem, a Jade and a Pearl. Lift my Spirit high and take Pride Of America and feel free. What an Epic adventure that would be

    Suzanne

    :DLove it!:D

  9. As I recall..the Jewel showcased Indian fare with the Chinese food..in the center floor area of the buffet --it was VERY good..(ps..not strictly vegetarian..some days with meat)

On the Gem...I could not find it..but was directed to a small space next to the Chinese food..along the wall next to grill area....(it was not as good as on the Jewel)...

  10. Curious at to what your wine options were with the CAS card?

    Appreciate any responses.

Unfortunately with Lucky or Hot status, the wine choices are (literally) red or white; both not so good. When i was Hot, I did get an ok from the host to get pinot grigio and now that I am Golden, I can pretty much order what I want.

    Tracy

House red or white (which I had.)...was ok..not great...but surely better than the vodka swill..

  11. They do include bottled water too at the casino. The well vodka is horrible. The rum is Bacardi, so you could have mojitos or rum and coke. Bourbon is Jim Beam, so you could do that in soda or ginger ale. The beer was basic including bud light, Amstel light, coors, and tecate. quote]

Oh yes!!!--the well vodka is GIbley's and it IS horrible...:o--I switched to wine....;)

  12. Just wanted to let everyone know that after an hour long phone call with NCL this morning, all is taken care of. NCL management/supervisors took care of all of our issues and we're sailing in a few days. Happy campers!!! Thanks for all the feedback both pro and con. Spirited conversation for sure.;):D:D:D:D

    Very happy for you !!!!!;)

  13. What was on the list? Rum/Whiskey or was is only wines?

I ordered a bar set-up last week and specifically asked whether it was offered onboard not, the CSR asked her supervisor and said that bar set-ups still had to be ordered before the cruise.

I believe there were a couple of brands each of vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, etc...sorry--do not remember specifics...but it sure was liquor..!!;)

I do remember thinking the prices were not cheap ...!!!--

  14. As I stated, yes you can do this on board. I saw the bottles listed on a menu last week. ;)

While on the Gem in October..I did see a section at the back of the bar menu in the atrium /lobby bar...for purchasing bottles onboard...it seemed to be a short list (shorter for sure than online prepurchase)--and I do not remember the prices--
