  1. What was on the list? Rum/Whiskey or was is only wines?

I ordered a bar set-up last week and specifically asked whether it was offered onboard not, the CSR asked her supervisor and said that bar set-ups still had to be ordered before the cruise.

I believe there were a couple of brands each of vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, etc...sorry--do not remember specifics...but it sure was liquor..!!;)

I do remember thinking the prices were not cheap ...!!!--

  2. As I stated, yes you can do this on board. I saw the bottles listed on a menu last week. ;)

While on the Gem in October..I did see a section at the back of the bar menu in the atrium /lobby bar...for purchasing bottles onboard...it seemed to be a short list (shorter for sure than online prepurchase)--and I do not remember the prices--

  3. I'm currently trying to pre-pay our daily service charges for our Gem cruise on January 20, 2014 - when I click on the tab to do it, it's telling me "We are unable to display this option at this time." We've made final payment, did I need to do this before then? Or is this like specialty reservations and I need to wait till 45 days out? Was hoping to take care of this before sailing, appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Probably a glitch.....and yes..you can prepay DSC after final payment-I have done it..

  4. Thanks! I have never in all my years of sailing seen such a quick pro active response. We have never had a Noro on NCL but have on other lines. This was I would call rapid response i( I am with OEM as part of my job at home) Jenny knows how to run a ship and given that none of the crew is ill I would assume it was brought on. We did come on after a one nigt CTN and we heard they really created havoc for the crew and quite a mess.

I am on vacation it is all good!

Yeah-Jenny is GREAT!--(btw-did you say hi from jaja for me?)

  5. On the Gem now, yes we have a Noro but if you didn't know he signs you would never know it. The crew is all good no signs of illness for them. One can bring all the Lysol and anti-bacterial products they want but it won't change the fact that a lot of people are very unsanitary and that was evident the first day. Hands in everything I watched at least 5 women in the forts 2 days walk right out of the bathroom and not wash their hands. It is all part if the crusie lol.

This does not seem to be a virus of epic proportion I have seen much worse.

Thanks for the report...AND PLEASE stay healthy !!

  6. On the Gem in San Juan right now

Jenny Lin is Hotel Director and will be here until Jan 11.

    Matt Sole is the CD

Vitor Da Silva boarded in NYC again as F&B director

    Concierge is Carlos

I will do a full posting from St. Thomas

Oh-how I wish I were there...!!! PLEASE...tell Jenny that jaja says "hi"..

  7. Besides what others have said..I also use them to keep items in the refrig..ie lemons for my water...and any unfinished snacks the butler brings..(I hate to waste !)

I keep a supply of different sizes in the outside pocket on my suitcase..so always there for our next cruise..

  8. We were on the Gem. this October..and .we had the best experience ever..dealing with my DH's shrimp allergy...On the Gem..Jeff (Dietician) is in charge .and I have never dealt with a more efficient and friendly person--I assume it varies by ship..as when we have previously sailed NCL.accomdations were made..but not with the same zeal / service as we just had...!!! He was amazing..reviewing menus daily and making it a point to meet up with us wherever we were eating to double check with the chef and servers......:)

    Kudos..Jeff and NCL !

  9. I loved the salad bar...! And enjoyed the "meats"--actually the chicken was really good !..

(trying to remember the ingredients in one salad "to die for"--I recall.. pears and chicken with nuts in a kind of yougurt dressing...yum!) Anyone remember having this ?

  10. Here is the latest message from Norwegian regarding the typhoon relief fund:

Everyone at Norwegian Cruise Line is truly saddened to hear of the significant devastation in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our crew members from the Philippines who have been impacted.

We have been in constant contact with our partners in Manila, who are actively reaching out to contact crew members and their families located around Manila and outlying provinces. Crew members on board are being supported to help make contact with their families and we are making arrangements for those who need to return home to do so.

If you wish to contribute to Norwegian’s Support Fund for our Filipino crew members, we welcome your contributions, no matter how big or small. We are currently collecting funds throughout the company and throughout our fleet. Guests currently onboard our ships can make donations through the Guest Services Desk. Past guests who wish to contribute can send a check (payable to Norwegian Cruise Line) to:

    Norwegian Cruise Line

    Attention: Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund

    7665 Corporate Center Drive

    Miami, FL 33126

Our guests have expressed great concern for our crew members and we can’t thank you enough for standing by us as we support our crew and their families.

Thanks so much for posting this ;)

  11. LOL - a while back I asked them why they did this. They said to keep them honest and to make sure the cameras sees everything!

I'd think to also keep us honest! LOL However, they didn't tell me that :)

I never knew..probably because I never have anything to cash in

  12. FYI - It is policy that everything, vouchers, money, etc. etc. are not to be exchanged hand to hand. They must put everything down on the counter for you to take and you must put everything down on the counter for them to take. It not only keeps them honest but the cameras can see everything this way. Every ship I've been on operated like this. Hope that helps you feel a little better :)

Learn something new every day ;)

  13. For those of us cruising over the next few weeks or even months, maybe we can be a little understanding if some of the crew are off a bit and maybe even be a little more generous with extra tips if possible. This is just my opinion. We will go the extra mile next week to help if we can.

YES!! (and for those of us not cruising soon..follow link to FB to help )
