  1. A few years ago I was eating at nicks pizza in forest hills queens NY. The pizza makers were preparing the pizza right behind the glass. We were chatting with the server about the great pizza and he said the same thing. It's the water in NY. I live here and the tap water tastes great. I do drink it after it goes through a brita filter. I've lived in Florida for 8 years when I was younger and the water down there is not the same.

  2. I took my son when he was one on breakaway a few years ago. He has so much fun. Although he was too young to be left at splash academy they had things for him to do. Everyday they would leave toys out and have mommy and me classes for guppies. We are going back at the end of this month with him now three and little brother one along with his one year old cousin and my friends two year old. They are going to have a blast. If you aren't sure look up breakaway Norwegian toddler on YouTube. There is one family who had a very long video of their family trip with their yougins. It's fun to watch.

  3. Again thanks to everyone for their interest in this post. Especially thanks to the person who gave me Andy Stuart's email address. NCL and I have worked something out that we are both very comfortable with. I don't think it would have been done without CC helping me get to the right person. I had googled trying to get email or phone numbers and had had no luck other than generic information. Should have tried CC a week ago.

Woohoo congrats OP! I'm glad you were able to work something out. I find it noble that you would go out of your way to give the best cruise vacation experience for your guests. I don't see it as entitled at all because you really don't have to do anything. I would feel very blessed if someone went out of their way to put my family in a haven suite. Enjoy your vacation!

  4. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer stage IV back in July '16 at the age of 36. He had been having abdominal pain for months which took so long to diagnose. It's been a rollercoaster these past few months. We love cruising and booked a 14day cruise on the Breakaway Jan 29-Feb 12. We weren't really sure what his health condition would be like and had already purchased insurance so we can always cancel right before the cruise. We understand the risks involved being on a ship. My husband mainly wants to go so he can create memories with our sons (3 year old and a 1 year old) and spend time with the family. We would be travelling w/ my mother, father and brother in laws. We booked a 2bedroom haven suite (through upsell yay!) and a mini spa suite for our inlaws. Our inlaws have been really great with the kids so we wanted them to have a break.

He has been through 12 rounds of chemo and had his last treatment Dec 15. He also lost a lot of weight, in Jan '16 he was around 160-170lbs and now he is around 108lbs. Physically he is very weak but spiritually and mentally he is strong. His doctor said that if he wants to go on the cruise then he would be ok as long as we understand the risks. He was doing really well and his cancer was responding at first but now it sort of plateau'd. Also since he has gotten very weak we decided to do a chemo break for now so he can recuperate and gain weight again.

I really want to make this the best vacation for him. We were planning just to stay in the haven room most of the time, he can see the islands from his balcony. We have a wheelchair incase he needs to get around. On another thread, I read about renting a recliner which I thought is a good idea. We will get a neulasta shot to boost his white blood cell counts right before the trip. I'm planning to email the accessdesk about bringing on hydration bags (to get through his port) and ensure shakes to keep up his weight. He is also taking ip6 everyday. Our nurse was also wondering if she could speak w/ the ship doctor to help w/ any preparations. Our travel agent has also been great.

Normally before a cruise, I'll have all of our bags packed and excursions planned weeks in advance. Honestly, I wasn't sure if we might make the trip but now we are two weeks away and I have to start packing soon. He is really looking forward to this trip and we hope it isn't our last cruise as a family. I'm so thankful each day that he is still with us fighting.

I was wondering if anyone else had any other tips, it would be really great to hear. Thanks in advance.

  5. Thank you for sharing and I'm so glad to hear about your son. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4 in July. He is undergoing chemo treatment now. We have a trip planned in January and purchased insurance incase put doc doesn't approve. We have the coolest Dr at MSK and they told us to wait and see his condition in Jan.

But I agree with you if there is anything abnormal to see the dr. My husband had abdominal pain for months and saw 3-4drs before he was diagnosed properly.

  6. If we book a spa balcony mini suite does it mean that all of the guests in the cabin will have access to the spa? I'm booking for my inlaws and our aunt and uncle are staying with them in the same cabin (b6 large balcony). The prices dropped on our 14 day cruise and we can upgrade to a mini spa balcony for 200$. Just wondering if it might be worth it. We have a large balcony and they don't mind either way. Last time we went on a cruise together they had an inside cabin so they don't really care for a balcony. However I thought it might be a treat if they could be surprised with spa access.

  7. Going back home is a smart move. I'm sure everyone on the ship would rather be on land instead of very choppy seas. The compensation is appropriate and I would probably use it towards another cruise but not in February!

I don't think they should have tried to outrun the storm. I'm not sure of their itinerary but on our last feb cruise the captain maneuvered around the storm (ride was still choppy but not like the anthem) and we wound up skipping the next port (San Juan which wasn't a big deal).
