  1. We always get insurance. It's only a couple hundred. And compared to potential costs, and the cost of trip, it's really not that much.

We get it because DS has pre-existing. We used it twice, but not for him.

DD got sick. Used ship med ctr. Insurance reimbursed the costs.

I had stroke a few days before cruise. Had to cancel. Insurance reimbursed us.

  2. I'm booked for the cruise between those two. Thanksgiving week. Hopefully all the bands like to stay home to eat their turkey and they leave us alone. I will stick it out for now and see what happens. I love NCL, but there are other cruise lines. If they cancel me, then maybe I take my $ elsewhere for that week .

We're on the 11-19, too. Since DS needs HC cabin, we have to book way out. Hope they don't charter it out. Finding another HC at short notice would be tough.

  3. we are torn between the 19th nov on the pearl or celebrity equinox 30th nov, the balcony cabins are a lot cheaper on celebrity but we are a bit worried about the age group on celebrity, we are not party animals but would like entertainment and pearl seems to have more to offer us, also a bit worried about the ages that will be onboard celebrity as it seems they are older people, we where worried about princess for the same reason, we are not that young ourselves being 53 and 48 lol, but when you read the average age group is over 70 we are a bit worried,

    pearl, pearl, pearl!!. Nov 19. DH'll be 55, I'll be 51.

  4. It is not my intention to be critical of any person's choices or how they spend their money. My point was that there are ways to save money' date=' and an inside cabin is one. If a guest can afford whatever--the Royal Suite, concierge level at the Grand Flo, or anything else--and chooses to give Disney that amount of their funds, that is their choice.

I've had balconies and I've had inside cabins...and we've enjoyed our cruises both ways. And yes, I'm the person who carries her own camera and buys few or none of the professional photos! (another money saving tip).[/quote']

    And it's all about priorities.

We're not rich, barely even middle class. Older paid-for car, older almost-paid-for house, don't eat out ...

We spend our money on taking a nice vacation each year [usually a cruise].

  5. That is great! Would they accommodate him at all the eateries besides the MDR? I wonder if we will have to go to the same location each time to get her food.

I'm not sure about quick-serve places. Buffets offered enough choice for us to find something he could try.

MDRs are best bet if you need something special. Every dinner, server brought menus for the next day, to see if we needed to make special orders. When we planned on eating elsewhere, told server, so chef there would know we were coming.

Oh, and let Special Needs know you'll probably need special food.

  6. I have an idea. Tell them that YOU will take a DCL cruise. And you wouldn't want to inconvenience them by thinking that they'd do such a bad vacation' date=' so you'll be going as just your nuclear family....and hope they can come up with an idea that makes them happy.

Then you go and enjoy yourself.

    Sorry, I'm a dwarf today. (Grumpy)[/quote']

:D Yes. Best idea of all.

Of course, family might come if you say 'I'm going. Come along if you want.'

  7. DCL is great. Great for families with kids. Great for those with no kids. There are probably more kids on DCL, but I notice them way less than I do on other cruiselines. DCL keeps them busy. And the shows are ... WOW.

DCL isn't WDW. It's more relaxed and laid-back. There are lots of opportunities to interact with characters, without the super long lines at WDW.

  8. I was all set to tell you how I don't find DCL to be more expensive. It's less expensive!

Many times, cheaper for me, too. DS is in wheelchair, and DCL the cheap HC rooms fit our family. Other lines, we have to get the expensive HC rooms.
