  1. I'm thinking that security may have thought the scooters were from one of the companies recommended by Royal where the scooters are left on the ship.

This is what I am thinking too, and Lenox Medical likely didn't board the ship to retrieve the scooters. CareVacations and Special Needs at Sea both require that the scooters remain on board after the cruise. I hope this gets resolved to your family's satisfaction, Ruminthemorning. I think it is ridiculous that RCI can't get a response from their own ship!

  2. Good info! Now I just have to find out how to book this....

gqboy1, regarding signing up for MFTD, from RCI's website:

Opt for My Family Time Dining® in our main dining room, and your kids will be served right away before Adventure Ocean® staff pick them up for a night of fun. Parents stay behind to relax and continue their meal.

    Details

My Family Time Dining is offered for the first seating time in our main dining room, for children ages three to 11. Kids enjoy their meal within 40 minutes of seating, before heading to the evening's Adventure Ocean activities. The program starts the second evening you're onboard. After that, you can use it each evening or whenever you wish.

    Reservations

Already booked your cruise? You can easily pre-register online for My Family Time Dining right now. Or, visit the Adventure Ocean Youth Program area while onboard to sign up.

  3. Good news, siegi1230, from the Royal Caribbean blog:

North Star- climb a set of spiral stairs to the loading area on deck 16 (has a handicap elevator as well), where the doors to North Star open and you may enter.

There are no seats. North Star accommodates 13 guests, plus there is room to accommodate a wheelchair passenger as well, for a total of 14 guests, and one operator.

Looks like your wife is good to go! :)

  4. Based on my experience, I would stay in Tampa and see Busch Gardens (we had an annual pass for five years and love it, particularly the animals). It was cool to see the gators and the Budweiser clydesdales, the bird show, flamingos, etc. There are many other fun activities in the area: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g34678-Activities-Tampa_Florida.html.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is where Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tale 2 were filmed, and residents include Winter and Hope. And it's a nice chance to see pelicans, turtles, sharks, etc.

We love Epcot and enjoyed it quite a few times as FL residents, in our early 30s at the time. Your son has many years to enjoy it, and going to Disney some other time (for more than one day) would be fun and more relaxing.

Keep your stress level down, have a happy wife, and enjoy a great mini-vacation in Florida prior to your cruise. :)

  5. I agree with the previous poster that we really need to email RCCL (Michael Bayley) to have any chance of making a difference. Oh, and they are in the midst of working on 2018 schedules so time is of the essence!

Here are points I think I'll include:

    - People are moving to other lines

    - The limited 1 or 2 sailings in late Sept are SELLING OUT (yes, the demand is there)

    - We would be VERY happy with just a limited seasonal schedule as I outlined previously

    - They don't have to do a full repo of a ship to do a limited 1 or 2 month season, so it really don't cost much more.

    Any others????

Would anyone like to post a good email address that we could send our pleadings to?

    Points I mentioned:

-That the West Coast presence would provide a nice introduction to Royal Caribbean for many first time cruisers. (We are all aware of how important first timers are to RCI)!

-Suggested offering CA Coastals at least in the spring and fall.

-How happy we were to have the Jewel out here last year. Given the pricing of those cruises (and I booked on Day 1), they likely made a nice profit.

-And last, but not least, I would sail on the Majesty (prefer smaller ships :o).

  6. Booked Celebrity Silhouette. Concierge C3. Thank you. Are we better off forward or aft just past the the bumb? Any thoughts.

My preference would be to book just past the hump, rather than forward. Here is a 'sticky' thread from the Celebrity Cruises forum that may be helpful, with S-Class cabin info: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=911018. While you cannot post a question there, you can do a Search or post your question on the cruiseline forum here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28.

  7. Ok, I've been giving this some thought and think there are ways that this could be profitable for RCCL and make us happy at the same time. I totally get they don't want to put a ship here full time based on past experience. So.....

I think it would be perfect if they base a ship here just 2 months out of the year. For example, have one of the ships they use for summer Alaskan cruises sail out of LA for 1 month from ~April to May alternating Mexican and Pacific coastal itineraries. Then, do it again in Sept - Oct. Done. Or, do Mexico in the springe (perfect weather) and Pacific Coastal in the Fall (again perfect weather). Not a huge commitment and doesn't take away a lot from the next home port they would reposition the ship for 6 months or so. Problem solved.

By having only a limited number of sailings in a year I am willing to bet they would fill up easily! Supply and Demand at it's finest :p .

Forget the Hawaii RT...that just isn't a good way to see Hawaii anyway, and they waste too many days at sea just to get there and back.

I just signed, and suggested at least offering CA Coastals in spring and fall. I also stated how happy we were to have the Jewel out here last year. Given the pricing of those cruises (and I booked on Day 1), they likely made a nice profit. I also mentioned that the West Coast presence would provide a nice introduction to Royal Caribbean for many first time cruisers.

  8. fishdr, given your priorities, I think Celebrity would be a great choice. The 10 night Equinox sounds wonderful (r.t. from Ft. Lauderdale), or as you mentioned, the 7 nt. eastern Caribbean itineraries on Silhouette and Reflection. There is also an 8 nt. Bermuda/Caribbean itinerary on the Summit, but it departs from San Juan- although you'd disembark at Cape Liberty. :)

The Aqua Class would appeal to those that enjoy the spa elements, and you would have exclusive access to Blu (specialty restaurant), and complimentary breakfast. Also complimentary access to the Persian Garden and Relaxation Room, as well as other benefits.

As you may know, Celebrity's loyalty program (Captain's Club) offers reciprocity with RCI Crown & Anchor (and Azamara). Example, Diamond status with RCI provides Elite status on Celebrity.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your cruise!

  9. Can't seem to find this searching.

Can I call RCCL and give someone a gift of on board credit? And, if I can, if they don't use it can they go to Guest Services and get cash?

    Thank you

It is easier to just call RCL 800-722-5443 and have the on board credit put on their account. The gift certificates need to be redeemed prior to sailing

PerferWarmWeather, yes- any unused OBC that you purchase for someone is fully refundable at Guest Services. And as mentioned, call Gifts & Gear to order OBC. That is much easier than the gift certificates. OBC is item #651. Have ship and sail date handy (and reservation number if possible). A confirmation should be emailed to you immediately after purchasing.

  10. Thank you. I did but there's nothing recent and they were not on RCCL.

I had hoped for more recent help.

I think you will find many options on Tripadvisor. As an example, there are 167 Top Attractions with recent reviews for Corfu: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g189458-Activities-Corfu_Ionian_Islands.html. You will see that you can view excursions by attraction type (tours, museums, landmarks, shopping, etc.). Enjoy your cruise! :)

  11. Regarding Celebrity, I was providing an option that doesn't look to 'break the bank'. We don't know the OP's budget, nor when they intend to travel. I suggested Celebrity, a premium cruise line that is a great value with a 'taste of luxury', not found with the mainstream lines of Carnival, NCL, Royal Caribbean, etc. While the small ships and luxury lines would certainly be nice, not everyone can sail at Windstar and Seabourn prices. The (one) 6 day cruise that Seabourn offers starts at $3k p.p.+. Their other itineraries are 12 days ($6k and up p.p.), and 19, 27, and 39 day cruises.

Celebrity is offering itineraries to the Caribbean (r.t. from Miami) year-round in 2017 on the Equinox. The 8, 10, and 11 night (summer) sailings are priced between $999 and $1,049 p.p.+.
