  1. Wow, I can't imagine have the window burst like that, I'm very glad everyone will be okay. Our window on our first cruise shattered, and that was something! We saw it upon returning to our stateroom after breakfast. It was still in place, albeit in a million pieces, and we couldn't see through it.

The Norwegian captain came to our cabin and asked us (with a smile) "Vat did you do to my sheep?!". The window was replaced while we were on our shore excursion that day, and provided no inconvenience to us- just quite a cruise memory! We hadn't asked for any 'compensation' and were surprised to have a bottle of wine and note of apology delivered to us. (Oh, and it was explained that the window had likely been installed too tightly, and this can happen over time.)

The Rhapsody's passengers definitely had a frightening experience. :(

  2. I'm glad to see your LIVE review on the beautiful Radiance and look forward to following along! Wishing you both a wonderful cruise! Great shot of the Grand Canyon of the Pacific! And that rambutan looks like you're eating a sea urchin, what does it taste like?

Waimea Canyon on Kauai, probably not stopping here again but we do have some other sights to see. :D

Definitely need to stop in the farmer's market in Kailua Kona for some delicious rambutan.

  3. Im thinking OP was using an AE

I remember the other thread, (and thought it may have been a Princess ship). Here is the link, OP is kittyvol, not volkitty, on February 27: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2321850. Giving the benefit of the doubt, it was kittyvol's first post on that thread, and perhaps they got mixed up with their user name and started a new thread with with a new name?!

I've loved this little research game. Maybe it should be a periodic game/thread on CC. "Which ship is this photo from?" The photos would have to be of very obscure things.

I totally agree and would enjoy an occasional 'quiz'! :)

  4. Actually you might be right

I found this youtube video and at the 112 mark I see similar signage above the casino, similar looking walls and hardwood flooring before the carpet

I found that same youtube video earlier today and noticed the wood flooring, red furniture, and brass poles at the :37 mark. And using the control key and mouse dial, I was able to enlarge the OP's photo. Certainly a mystery to perhaps have a ghost Carnival slide show up!

  5. I would go with the second one, a longer itinerary and I love Aruba, Barbados, and Tortola (in the beautiful BVIs!). I recommend taking an excursion to The Baths on Virgin Gorda (google it ;)). We did a catamaran sailing/snorkeling excursion from Tortola that took us there. Huge granite boulders, pools, and grottos...spectacular day!

  6. Just be careful if you purchase gift certificates. Even when applied at the right time and marked for OBC, they don't always show up. This just happened to daughter-n-law and has happened to us also. Don't even know why RC has a site to fill out for gift certificates if it doesn't always work. We know how to apply the certificates for OBC but apparently the web site gets lost along the way.

retiredgram, have you purchased OBC the easy way, by calling Gifts & Gear at (800) 722-5443. The item number for OBC is 651. And as mentioned above by Ashland, be sure to get a confirmation of purchase emailed to you, and take a copy onboard...in case. ;)

Pjt212301, regarding ideas for the honeymooners, we have always ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries. It's nice to have them waiting in our stateroom upon our arrival. And (depending on your budget), maybe have the couple choose a specialty restaurant and/or the Royal Replenish or other drink package, or maybe a shore excursion they would enjoy...and provide OBC for it.

  7. I do think they should have a limit on the amount of people in the pools, though.

I agree. I'm not aware that Royal Caribbean has a limit posted. Disney Dream's pool rules states: 'Bather load 56 persons'. When the 4 yr. old nearly drowned in March 2013 (Disney Fantasy), apparently the pool was packed. Disney lifeguards are now enforcing the new pool rules and working to control the chaos that was the Family Pool- including putting an end to guests dangerously jumping into the pool on top of others.

I like the fact that RCI is providing life vests. Along with parent's close vigilance they can at least help to avert tragedy.

  8. We will also be sailing soon for our 25th Wedding Anniversary! We'll actually be in Jamaica that day, so we're planning to make a fun day of it bobsledding and River tubing! I love the idea of decorating the cabin! Thanks for the Party City tip, I'll check there! Good luck planning, and congrats to all of us, it is quite the milestone.

Unlike the OP, you are sailing on the Allure and can opt to have your cabin decorated thru Gifts & Gear. There are two Happy Anniversary decor choices offered ($49 & $75). Of course, you can bring decorations and do it yourself for less, but I just wanted to let you know. Here's a link: https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/royalgifts/onboard-delivery/room-decor. There are also Romance Packages available, or you can have wine, champagne, or sparkling wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, or flowers, etc. awaiting your arrival to your stateroom.

Bobsledding and river tubing- that's awesome! I take it that you've seen the movie 'Cool Runnings'? :D Happy Anniversary, enjoy your cruise!

  9. Lou_70, Party City has 25th anniversary decorations for $4.99 (see photo on their website) for your stateroom/door:

Celebrate silver! Decorate for a 25th wedding anniversary with our lovely Anniversary Swirl Decorations. These metallic silver foil swirls hang 24in and come in an eye-catching mixture: some are plain, some dangle a 7in wide "25th Anniversary" cardstock circle, and some have a 5in tall foil number "25" hanging from the bottom. 25th Anniversary Swirl Decorations includes:

    3 Cutout Sign Swirls

    3 Number 25 Swirls

  10. I am peaking through some threads now.

It seems the cruise line doesn't do anything special and I am not expecting them to.

I am ok with additional expense to do something special.

We are also going to Bermuda where they honeymooned so maybe something there. But I know squat about Bermuda.

JoeFan, you may want to check out the Bermuda Ports of Call forum, for discussion/ideas on excursions and things to do that would interest your family: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=196. Also, you could surprise your in-laws and order stateroom decorations from Gifts & Gear. I believe that a sheet cake can be ordered, perhaps someone can provide some info.
