  1. Seems like it's more of an American thing though. I had this whole debate last year on this board regarding flying into Rome for our Suez Canal cruise and other European passengers on our cruise though it very odd that we would fly in a day or more earlier. European cruisers thought it was odd even if they were coming to Florida for a cruise. It seems for them they always fly in the same day as embarkation. I even had indignant responses when I explained that it's nice to tour what the embarkation city has to offer. I had more than one reply they have no interest in sightseeing at the embarkation point and other responses that American based airlines must not be very good if we can't trust the flight scheduling. I gave up on explaining the benefits.

We are from the UK and we always arrive a day , sometimes days early whether we are catching a plane, train , ship or automobile!! Its part of our holiday

  2. On the S class ships.... the 'lowest class' veranda cabin is 2D. These cabins are on Dec 6 and are considered partially obstructed. They have the lifeboats outside. Frankly not much of an issue to me, unless you are sitting on your veranda looking out... then the davit, which holds the lifeboat in place might be an issue. Next are 2C.. these are slightly more expensive and also considered partially obstructed. Next up is 2B. On deck 6 these are located on the hump and forward. 1A cabins are my favorite. They are on the side of the hump... verandas are larger and shadier than regular verandas.... Although 1A cabins on higher decks include the center of the hump as well as these side cabins. 2A cabins start to show up on deck 7. The next is 1B... they show up on deck 8. Beginning on Deck 9 are the concierge cabins.... C1,C2,C3. Concierge class is higher priced and includes some perks... like chocolate covered strawberries and other items. I am a frugal cruiser, so I stick with the basic 2D, 2C, and 1A cabins. I like being on Deck 6.. easy to get to 5. Now the other group of veranda cabins are the Aqua class... these include even more perks... separate dining room... access to spa... and tent to be located forward... so closer access to spa. This is my observations on the different categories. Personally... I prefer being lower on the ship and near the center. Sea sickness has only been a problem on a few cruises... but I would rather not chance it. DH uses a scooter... but in a pinch can do stairs... so I prefer being close to elevator/stairs and a deck away from key activities. I believe cabin sizes across veranda cabins of all classes is the same or close to the same. If you wonder about how bad an obstructed cabin is on S class... check out this link.360 views of obstructed cabins

    Excellent reply

  3. Going by yourself is no problem at all- I took the ferry from Red Hook to Wall Street Pier 11- worked like charme- and you have a great view of the giant Mary as you go around her with the ferry.
Every spot in NY you can reach from there- I spent a great day at the south tip of Manhattan- revisiting all my favorite places. After Lunch I made my way back to Pier 11 and was back with plenty of time before we sailed back home.

I was going to suggest the ferry. Only a few mins walk from dock

  4. Sorry you had to cancel your Caribbean cruise. My brother and his wife sail to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale every December, but not this year. I hope that next year will be happier for us all.

Oh please, let’s hope so . We have had it booked for nearly 2 years !!! But i suppose the islands, hopefully, will always be there for us to visit soon xx

Just done some reading myself...Celebrity website (not it’s strength) indicates 90 days before loss of anything, however, we thought cancellation at final payment date did mean  loss of deposit.... Worth phoning Celebrity and asking them to confirm their policy and how things work when booked via a TA. In our experience phone X early or late for speedier phone contact...If they confirm the 90 days no loss it may give you some leverage with your TA...

Please report back on your experience...could be useful information for many of us.

Yep, that’s what i have just seen too. Will ring X first . Thanks xxx

  6. It has always been the case, if you book in UK, whether with a TA, or direct with Celebrity, then you loose your deposit if you cancel, before final payment, which is 57 days before, according to the Celebrity brochure.
However, at the moment, Cruise with Confidence, for any reason, up to September 1st, 2020, enables you to get FCC.
I cancelled our August 1st Mediterranean sailing on April 17, due to Celebrity then requiring a doctors ‘Fit to Sale’ letter.
I have been told I will get a FCC for our deposit, but I have yet to see it.
The TA told me that I just need to ring Celebrity and give them my Loyalty number when I want to book another cruise, before December 31st 2021.
Of course, now the Lift & Shift is operational.

Yes, lots of things to consider . I thought that we will loose our deposit. Thanks for info

  7. Have our Queen Elizabeth Beatles and Beyond ready and waiting for Oct/ Nov next year, fingers crossed . Just canceled Celebrity Caribbean out of Ft Lauderdale for Dec this year. Just don’t think it will be as special right now as we know it can be. Will so miss the preparation as much as the cruise

  8. As I was walking home today, it occurred to me that had the plague of Covid-19 not descended upon us, my wife and I would now be busy preparing for our July transatlantic crossing, our European vacation, and our voyage home in August. Our days would be filled with shopping, packing, sharing our holiday itinerary with friends and family, and making arrangements to spend a few days in Brooklyn with our son before we embarked for Southampton. How I miss the weeks of anticipation and, of course, the wonderful days on Queen Mary 2 that would lie ahead!

We all grumble from time to time about things that have not gone quite right on a sailing: sink holes in the carpeting, someone less than helpful at the purser’s desk, a meal that didn’t live up to expectations, chaos in Kings Court, tired production numbers, the list goes on and on. But all these seem insignificant to me now as I remember walking around the promenade deck, gazing out at the Atlantic from a library window, afternoon tea in the Queens Room, lying on a deck chair while pretending to read, the elegant formal nights, cocktails and jazz in the Chart Room, more cocktails and quiet conversation in the Commodore Club, being gently rocked to sleep, the gala balls, the noonday reports from Georges Bank to Bishop Rock, and the wonderful people we have met and whose friendship we cherish.

No one can say for certain when it will be safe to sail again or how much life onboard will change.  But we’re holding on to our future cruise credit and the hope that we’ll be on the broad Atlantic next summer. Until then, bless you all!

Beautifully spoken xxx Luckily we dont have anything booked with Cunard until Oct/ Nov next year , hopefully the world will be a little more open for travel by then , but we are having to cancel our first visit to the Caribbean this Dec.Sailing with Celebrity out of Ft . Lau. Just want it to be as special as possible but don’t think it can be right now.

From my understanding in the U.K. if you have booked through a TA they should let you know clearly the terms and conditions that apply...what you may loose deposit wise to Celebrity and any cancellation cost you may need to pay them. Whilst I am not suggesting your TA would deliberately mislead you in our experience some TA’s have limited experience and can have an unclear understanding of T&Cs. Add in the fact many are working from home at present, not quite as easy to confirm with superiors. If I was presently about to cancel a cruise I would ask for an email clearly stating what the costs to me would be and clearly stating what % of deposit I would get back.

As an alternative to cancelling you can switch your cruise to a ‘matching’ one next year through Lift and Shift or to any other cruise at all for a cost of £75 for guests one and two (free of charge Elite and above). No loss of deposit, no further outlay of money.

Hope you manage to get sorted...

Thanks. Our TA is a cruise specialist, one of the most established in the uk. I was wondering as their cancelation policy says we will loose a minimum of a deposit up to 105 days before cruise. Celebrity says up to 90 days before cruise no loss of anything . Which one is correct for us. Yes, we will email TA and ask . No one available on phones

  10. We cancelled our America's cruise on the Reflection in November.  Just didn't seem like everything would be in order by then.  We are hoping this is all straightened out by our Reflection Baltic cruise in August 2021.

Will cancel our Dec 4 Caribbean out of Ft. Laud. First time in the Caribbean for us so want the best experience poss

  11. We have a Caribbean cruise on Reflection this Dec. We are in the UK so at the mo cant come into the USA and a no travel unless urgent from Gov. Have to pay TA full moneys by Aug 21st . Haven’t a clue what will be happening by Dec but have decided to cancel. We will only loose small deposit. If the cruise goes ahead and we haven’t canceled we will not get refund and don’t want a credit as we are all booked for hols for the next couple of years . BA flights dont need to be paid till 3 weeks before flight so hopefully will know by then and maybe BA will cancel anyway then we wont loose deposit. If not we will cancel

  12. Thanks for that, but I'm British. Will keep an eye on our FCO advice.   Airfare is the rub... non refundable at the moment.

We are in UK too.We are hoping our Dec 4th Caribbean on Refection will sail. We will pay the balance end of Aug which we will accept full refund on if they cancel . Luckily BA have said we don’t need to pay balance on flights and a few days car hire until 3 weeks before flight so hopefully Celebrity will have let us know by then.

  13. We have also done that.  In fact typically, I ask that all reservations be day two or beyond if a purchase for example a three night package, and tell the restaurant agent on board, I want the 1/2 price dinner the first night- cheaper then if I booked a dinner package for four nights.  We never had a problem.

If we book a special price dinner for night1 before we sail and also, let’s say ,a 5 night package before we sail will the 5 night Package automatically start from night2?

  14. I could be mistaken but I don't think your son's chosen beverage will be available on board. You might be able to save yourself some money on that front.
Fortunately, you can bring your own onboard.

I was going to say, bring some with u. We always take Yorkshire Tea as its one of the best

  15. 30 minutes so far to the UK number (which is a premium rate charge number)  and no indication of position in queue. Not having any indication of queue position or wait time is not acceptable when I am paying for this.

Had to phone BA about 11 months ago as they are doing our flights and car hire package for our Dec cruise on Reflection , hopefully, haha !! Couldn’t book exactly what we wanted on line and got an amazing deal . Phone call cost us £50 ! Hey ho !!
