2-15-15 will be our first cruise ever, Do they have ice machines on the cabin decks like hotels do?
Thanks, Max
Better. Your ice machine will be the phone. Just call room steward and he or she will refill.

I'm trying Princess for the first time in 22 days on the Grand princess, I hope its a nice ship. Do you have the link from the original posting with all the negative comments? I've noticed so far the roll call is pretty boring compared to my past carnival cruises. It looks like its going to be an older crowd which doesn't really excite me much:rolleyes:. I'm by no means young (late 30's) but would prefer not to hang out and chat with 70 year olds!!

Try Disney. You might even get some mouse ears in the onboard give shop.

Yep. We have a Mexican Restaurant just about on every corner in S. California. All pretty darn good. As Nina said eat before you get on the ship.
Totally agree. We always fill up on Mexican food before we go and then again when we get back. As there is no Mexican food to be found on Mexican Riviera cruises unless you eat in port.

The lifting of the embargo has to be done by your Senate and House of representatives. They have to change or repeal the law that created the embargo in 1961. I personally don't see the embargo being lifted anytime soon.
Unless they do it before the new congress begins in Jan, I don't see it happening. It currently has a high level of bipartisan opposition within the current congress so again not gonna happen.

I did, too. After awhile, DanaPointBob, you will learn the regular posters here and come to appreciate (or not) their unique contributions. :)
Isn't foie gras illegal in California?
Thank you for your unique contribution.

All this talk about pate in a Beef Wellington is most interesting to us Europeans as we do not use pate in Beef Wellington, and certainly not fois gras, so if you come to Europe and order Beef Wellington you are likely to be very surprised.
For information only, and not saying one is right and the other is wrong, a European Beef Wellington has a coating of 'mushroom duxelles' which consists of finely chopped mushrooms and shallots, perhaps with a little cream, and mixed into a paste and then the pastry.
If you want fois gras with your beef in Europe, you really need to order a Tournedos Rossini, but it will be topped with a slice of hot fois gras and only fois gras, but note it not be wrapped in pastry.
If anyone in France replaced fois gras with a pate and called it Tournedos Rossini, Gioachino Rossini would probably turn in his grave.
Well the above post isn't even remotely pretentious. LOL

It appears that your question is asking for very subjective answers that I can't see how they would assist you.
I prefer the surf and turf because I don't like pate'.:)
The OP is seeking an opinion. By nature all opinions are subjective not simply food. Having said that my subjective opinion is the beef as I too find cruise ship shellfish dismal.

Sorry, very slow internet connection.
Very strange howling most of the night, bass thumping as though loud music is playing when no music is playing, balcony doors opening and closing, lights turning on their own, phone alarm going off when phone is dead, many injuries, Noro virus (although probably not spread by ghost)... just to name a few things!
Been on many Princess ships and never had this many strange happenings!
Sounds like they could add an up sell charge for the Haunted Cruise Ship Experience.

I would bet my eyes are sharper than yours, plus I have got age on my side here. I have got to be one of the youngest elite cruisers on Princess so its not as if I spend little time on ships. I am also under 40. My standards are very high. I never stay in hotels that are rated less than 5 star. I never fly with budget airlines and I despise cheapness and backpacker accommodation. I refuse to ride in taxis and only book chauffer driven cars. I have high standards and I would never be afraid to publicly criticise a cruise line if it were not up to my expectations. I am probably a harsh critic. In fact I have deemed Island Princess unfit for further cruises after its upcoming refit due to its shameful grab of public space.
I want to point out that I was also on Diamond Princess this August and it is just out of refit doing Japan at the time. In all honesty I could say Golden Princess was on par with Diamond Princess.
The ship was in Fantastic shape.
Sorry I missed all that. I was too busy still laughing about the comment that the Golden was in the best shape of the entire fleet. LOL

I think part of the differing opinions of the Golden (mine falls in the middle), is that everyone has different expectations and tolerances when it comes to a cruise. I am willing to overlook some deferred maintenance, as long as the A/C and the plumbing work, and the staff and food are good. Yes, I think she is due for a drydock, but I am more than willing to sail on her until then.
Agreed!

I could honestly say I think the ship was in the best shape of the entire Princess fleet. An outstanding ship with a great cruise experience.
Perhaps you were on another ship???
LMAO! Best shape of the entire fleet? Seriously.... Perhaps an Optometrist might help.

Just this week finished a B2B on the Golden. Our 13th & 14th Princess cruise. Outstanding was the wait service in main dining room and the Future Cruise Director. Major disappointment was in the upkeep of the public areas. Several bathrooms closed the entire cruise. Worn out furniture, carpet pulled away from corners, water leaking through out the ship. Bar service was non-existent at pool area during MUTS. While 2 servers stood and watched the movie more then 20 minutes. We had a future cruise planned on the Golden. We canceled that cruise and booked another.
I observed all the same things and also found the same to be the case on the Grand. It amazes me that others claim no such issues exist. I would add the fans on several decks attempting to remediate mold from the many leaks.

Having sailed on her half a dozen times over the last year I can simply say she is a tired ship in desperate need of drydock.

We will be on Golden over Christmas and New year sailing around South America.
What is life like over the festive season on Princess?
That's kinda far from the North Pole so you may or may not get a visit from Santa.

The heaviest dumbbell is the guy from cabin 7025.
I don't know how he gets through the door to work out.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I am sure I saw him laying out by the pool in a speedo. As I was on my way to the buffet and lost my appetite that was a good thing. Saved me the trip to the gym.

I have a strange question I need answered. Is there a charge for chocolate milk on board? My DH no longer drinks soda and chocolate milk is his new drink of choice. We used to get the ultimate drink package but no longer see the need. I just need to know if I need to budget for his new chocolate milk addiction. :)

Actually you need to budget for new clothes for him. I gained 100lbs due to a milk addiction.

Definitely a morbid topic...
I know! And agree... Reminds me of attitudes of those who feel cruising is for "newly- weds or nearly-deads." So wrong! I am elite and young. My friend has two sons who are elite and in their twenties.

Hi....just off Star a week ago, same thing. I wish I could remember all but pulled pork, bbq beef etc, think of a smoke house type lunch menu but I don't remember ribs. We went by once but didn't partake.
Chuck
Wonder if all the ships have that now

Sad to say but it's a California cruise and full of people from California. I'm beginning to think we have some of the rudest people in the US living in this state.
And they let them vote too!

Been on the Grand 18 days with 10 more coming up.. Have heard of no problems with elevators..the ship is in fine condition.. I've seen a leak or two around the ship, but we've had some pretty rugged weather, so that is not surprising.. Any problem is fixed immediately.. We are looking forward to another 10 days onboard..

Absolutely hilarious! If it is reported by the talking heads on the so called "news" programs then it must be true. ROFL
In answer to the OP, yes we are still cruising as we have a greater chance of dying from a heart attack due to the abundant food on board.
Hey...... I believe I already said that when I mentioned gaining 1 pound per day...LOL

While I commend Princess for taking a stand, I wonder how forthcoming the information will be from the passengers filling out the form?
As forthcoming as they usually are while boarding with coughs so bad it sounds like they're losing a lung. I have seen people clearly ill sign the form and walk right on.
