  1. I always have the Shellac/Gel (depending on the mfg) done on my toes as well as my fingers, it just last longer and stays nicer. On the next cruise I am wearing colors all over the place so I am not sure what I will do for color although I suspect a green on the toes and a coral on the fingers. Both are pretty neutral for most looks.

  2. After seeing the way this dress moved and how really well it was made, I was not surprised that this was the winner. I don't think I have ever seen anyone having as much FUN in a dress as Heidi did in this one.. She apparently couldn't resist twirling!

I hated the material that Fade used .. it was too drab a contrast to the black in it..it just didn't have any life too it. I loved the color of Char's dress but you could never see the design because the model never slowed down enough. Even the pictures on the website doesn't show it well.

  3. I am thinking/hoping/dreaming about a Caribbean cruise this November or December and trying to preplan my wardrobe in case my ship comes in, so to speak. It will probably be a seven night cruise with two formal nights. Princess is most likely; Celebrity and RCI are possible.

I have had multiple foot surgeries and can only wear walking shoes. Since those dont go with a dress, I end up doing the black slacks/fancy top thing for formal night. One of my fancy tops is a black velvet tunic with a little rhinestone embellishment at the neck. Would that be OK or out of place? November/December is the right time of year for velvet. But the Caribbean is a warm destination, so maybe velvet is too hot or not in the right spirit of things.

Please don't tell me to take my slacks and eat at the buffet. I love formal night. Before the four, count them four, fractures left me with Frankenfeet, I dressed to the nines.

Vicki .. I have had 5 surgeries on my feet for bunion and hammertoe so I sympathize with the shoe situation. Since I am also one who loves to dress to the nines, I have done extensive (perhaps exhaustive might be a better word) and I have found that these days most of the walking shoe companies have something in a silver or gold. For instance I know Dansko has a silver sandal type that works and Naot, Rieker and Rockport have some shoes that will do. Even sequined tennis shoes would work. If you want to wear the formal gown, wear it with whatever you can find and don't let it bother you .. I understand the comfort of hiding the shoes with the pants and dressy top and that is fine too. (I agree Velvet isn't really ideal for the Carib). .. but the point is don't NOT wear a lovely gown if that is what you want to wear .. just because of shoes.

  4. Good morning....I didn't watch last year.....well, maybe for 2 minutes

if I was channel surfing....but I never watched a full episode the entire

    season......and this year? I won't even watch the 2 minutes...omg,

they are down to finding the people from "The Housewive series":rolleyes:

I was sort of waiting to see who was going to be on but now, I know

they have lost me as a viewr.

There was a lot of speculation that turned out not to be true last year too .. I figure out of all the "real" housewives they will only choose one and perhaps one Soccer star (Lets hope it is Donovan ) .. there will be even more speculation in the next few weeks. I thought last year was one of the better seasons in a long time. In particular the Para Olympic snow boarder .. was amazing and Derek showed his real genius in being able to choreograph complex routines that she accomplished amazingly well. Time will tell, but I wouldn't write it off too soon :)

  5. Wow ... talk about spoilers. Next Thursday, they will design a dress for Heidi to wear to the Emmy's (the Technical awards) which were last night with pictures all over the place today. So no mystery to the winner .. but of course we can still second guess the judges.

    What were they thinking ??

  6. Yups, hope you have a good time!

    Welcome to Singapore!

You know, we have quite a 'bad' reputation where the international press is concerned. They are almost always writing critical pieces about us. Hope your trip here will give you a more local perspective.

These days I take everything the news says with a large grain of salt!!

Perhaps you can answer a question for me.. we are arriving on the Sapphire Princess on 9/20 and out flight is at 5:50AM on 9/21 so we booked a room at the Crown Point Hotel at the airport. 1- If we take the princess transfer to the airport .. will it be easy to walk to the Crown Point Hotel with luggage or will we need a cab ? Would it be easier to just book a cab or car to meet us at the Cruise Terminal. I understand that there is a Grand Prix going on which will close streets and create some crowding and never having been to Singapore I have not idea how best to navigate that situation .

    Thank you

    Kathy

  7. If anyone has a Sax Off Fifth close by, you should know that they are having a buy 1 get 2 free sale as well as 60% off all of the designer clothes, 30% off the last marked price on all shoes and etc.

Best sale I have ever seen there!

  8. Pam-

When I was on Sapphire last year in So Cal, just before they were getting ready to ship her off to Asia, they were reformulating a lot of menus, making changes and introducing new things to the food. For example in HC they added a made to order ramen station that was amazing. We did chef's table as well and it was an intimate dinner with only 6 of us. The chef and Matre'd spent a lot of time with us that night and said how they were having to train all the cooks to new menus and were bringing on chefs who specialized in pan-Asian cuisine.

So if you get on her, you might get your wish :)

I am so happy to hear this since we will be onboard the Sapphine in 3 weeks and I was hoping they would have some regional choices.

  9.

Also, see that your in Portland, OR, our oldest grandson & his wife live there & they just told us we're going to be "Great Grandparents"! Hope to get out there soon after the baby arrives nx year. (by the way, I'm WAY TO YOUNG to be a "great-gm!! LOL ). :D

Aren't we all :) I'm not but I have grandchildren old enough !

  10. Their second-place would have been my first. Totally agreed with the loser.

From the previews it looks like two are going home next week.

100% with you on this ... the second place was lovely (although the designer drives me crazy in his/her on-camera "insights")

  11. We too took the White Pass Railroad... but it was raining quite steadily the entire day and the windows fogged up so that we all spent most of the journey wiping off windows so we could see ...

Also, It was still raining in Juneau (it actually rained the entire trip) so they cancelled the helicopter to the glacier ( which was to be the real highlight of the trip) and the sea plane excursions and scurried around to find places on buses for people to go to the glacier.

So I would just say, watch the weather and decide whether your excursion will still be fun if the weather is bad. The White Pass Railroad was a bust as far as we were concerned because we were confronted with the poor visibility caused by the windows. We did wander around Ketchikan, but it got really cold so we didn't even make it up to Creek Street.

It will all depend on how things go as to what you can do.

  12. We will be in Hong Kong, two Vietnam ports, Bangkok and Singapore next month and I am wondering if we will need the local currencies in these ports .. if so I prefer to do it at my bank at home before we leave and supplement it as needed at ATM's in the various cities. I do know that one tour in Vietnam has requested US dollars (and more particularly newer large bills ) .. but in the markets and shops and restaurants or street food venders will we need the currency ?

    Thanks

  13. The Sapphire is also our favorite ship in the PCL line up. As, I think it was Bob, said.. it has all the amenities of the Grand Class without that extra passenger deck which makes for a much better mix of passengers to amenities!

We sailed the Sapphire from Osaka to Beijing a number of years ago and we were very surprised at the time that no special accommodations were made for the Asian passengers. The menus did not contain any asian dishes and we watch some mothers having a difficult time with children who could not find anything familiar to eat beyond rice. I am glad to hear that will change this year since we are back onboard in HongKong next month.

  14. If you are looking for a good view and something relatively new, there is a huge ferris wheel not far from Pikes Market (a must). And I also have to give a several thumbs up to the Chihuly Glass exhibit ..it is outstanding. When you are there you can see how crowded the Space Needle is that day and that may help you make up your mind.
