  1. My husband always wears a tux on both formal nights and I always take two gowns ... but then his motto in life is "Happy wife happy life" ... he knows how much I enjoy dressing up so he goes along .. I know how much he enjoys science conversations so I study ... marraige should be about caring for the other person and their likes and dislikes are a part of that.

  2. I have a blow up spa pillow that I use in the bath tub at home. I found that taking that with me and turning it upside down was the perfect lower back support for those chairs. Which reminds me .. go get a new one before you leave this time!

I love our balcony cabin's so much that a couple years ago I upgraded to a kindle paperwhite so i could sit on the balcony in the dark and read late at night :)

  3. As someone else said .. everyone's foot is different. The foot bed on Merrill does not fit me but there is a new (to me anyway) brand this year called Ahnu and it fits like a glove.

I have been trying to find comfortable walking shoes for SE Asia next month and have settled on a great pair of Clarkes .. but again everyone's foot is different. So if the others aren't quite right, Ahnu is of the same quality and fit differently.

  4. I have the same problems and have said for a long time that designers and clothing manufacturers were missing a big market for the more mature bodies to be dressed stylishly. One thing they should think of is that for some of us it is the first time we could afford to indulge in designer clothing and it is too late.

I find that the big department stores are useless these days and I have started looking at smaller brands. I like some of Chico's things and I can always find something that fits there .. likewise White House Black Market (they are the same company) has some very nice dresses and tops.

The biggest improvement to my wardrobe came after I found the Soma Sensuous Sides Bra (eliminates that side-boob nicely) and they have other great styles for other problems and after I started wearing some sort of a smoother depending on what I am wearing (some clothing takes a bit more muscle than others). I sent several hours at our outlet stores this weekend and found tops in an XL and L at Tommy Hilfiger, Eddie Bauer, Loft, Dress Barn and Maxstudio ... I was amazed but they were all on sale for rock bottom prices.

It is a dilemna ... for sure.

  5. I did find exactly what I was looking for .. it is a little shrug that is heavier than chiffon but much lighter than a knit jersey .. it comes just below the elbow and will fit in any purse or tote.

I bought skirts and tops, dresses and maxi-dresses for this cruise.. it seemed more sensible than packing heavy jeans or shorts and tanks. Should be cool and won't be a problem if it rains.

Whatsup6897 which date are you cruising on the Sapphire .. we join the ship on Sept 11 .. am I just not remembering your name from our roll-call or are you on a different sailing.

  6. I found that lightweight skirts, tanks and shirts were the coolest (we were there on July 4th and it was Hot) .... and since they are everywhere this year (just bought a few for the cruise in Sept) .. particularly for Rome.

In Istanbul, they had wrap skirts to borrow if you weren't dressed properly so it was even less of a problem.

  7. I have a really good travel power strip but I found that I really don't need it. It's heavy and takes up room in my suitcase. Just about every electronic device and camera charger has a USB connection so I just bring a relatively small plug with four USB ports.

I also recently got a very small charger for $16. It's about the size and weight of a cigarette lighter. It charges both my iPhone and iPad from depleted to fully charged and still has power left. I plan to bring it on my September cruise and think it'll be great for my long flights to Copenhagen when I read on my iPad Mini for hours. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A5C4QDK/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1404010446&sr=8-2&pi=SX200_QL40

Pam .. do you mean that it charges the iphone and ipad from a battery device so it doesn't need to be plugged in on the plane? That would be awesome since I will spend hours reading my kindle on the flight to HongKong and home from Singapore. Thanks

  8. I was shopping today and I tried on this dress. I initially rejected it, but thinking back on it it might just work. I have never worn a white evening gown on a cruise and I am wondering about the white with my white/blonde hair .. What say you ?

(Must do some reading, I don't remember how to post pictures other than the thumbnail you get when you attach it.. sigh)

  9. I hang everything possible when I unpack and I usually still have to ask them to take hangers away when I am unpacked.

I live in Portland (Lake Oswego) too and it is convenient to be able to cruise from Seattle ..Have a great time ..if the weather there is anything like this it should be awesome!

  10. I guarantee I would have been incensed and called for the head of security and then I would certainly have reported it to the Cruise line and the customer service on the ship.

I abhor strangers in positions of authority even touching me. It makes me feel demeaned somehow and I have actually ended up in tears at an airport.

I don't mind if you think I am a prude .. this to me is a very big deal.

  11. I am always astounded by the unconventional materials challenge... just the creativity to figure out making a dress from whatever. I do think Amanda had a big advantage having done that before but it was nice just once on this show to see a team actually work together without the major EGO's getting in the way.

I didn't really like the winning dress or the winning mini collection, but it was the least bad.

  12. I rarely wear shorts when I travel - always choose sundresses or skirts, and nothing shorter than knee. Ankle when I know it will be necessary (eg we went to Meteora monasteries on a Black Sea cruise a couple years ago). Personally, I bring a button down shirt or a scarf as my over-layer for warmth or modesty because that's what I will have packed anyway.

Ooh - love this - it's an open weave linen!! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/chaus-open-front-pointelle-linen-shrug/3794769?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=2375500&fashionColor=RICH+BLACK&resultback=1700&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-searchresults-_-1_6_A

That is more what I had in mind .. the length is good and the open weave would be nice and light. I need to run to Nordstrom today anyway so I will look to see if they have it .. thank you

  13. The shrug in my post should go with just about everything. Are you wearing some sort of see through skirt that would be better suited to a strip club which then begs the question if it is appropriate for a conservative SE Asia sacred site? The main point is to have a simple foldable/crushable shrug that you can slip on while entering conservative temples since you will already be wearing a long skirt or capri pans. I personally love having a shrug and a shawl. I can cover my shoulders with a shrug then can easily cover my head with a shawl as needed in ultra-conservative settings.

I assure you I am not wearing see through anything and I find the strip club reference insulting.

I don't find that that shrug goes with anything but I suspect we have a different idea of what works in a fashion sense if you believe that.

Perhaps we will just agree to disagree, but thank you for the suggestions.

  14. KLLUND, my wife and I have been to Asia many times including the year.

In general shorts and shirts with some type of short sliver were perfectly fine. What areas are you asking about?

    Keith

Keith .. In particular visiting some of the Temples in Vietnam. I can ASSURE you I am not talking about stipper skirts .. sigh .. but I did read that you should have shoulders and knees covered and another source says knees elbows and shoulders .. none of them seemed to say head though. Is that incorrect in actual practice?

    Thanks Kathy

  15. I think the major problem is that what I am finding are a heavier weight than I really want .. I don't want chiffon lite but I don't want a knit or pashmina weight either... I actually have the very shrug you linked, but it looks odd with the gauzy skirts .. I am wearing hip length tees/tanks with them and it is an awkward length. I also have some maxi type dresses to choose from and will be taking at least one.

I just feel like skirts will be easier (cooler) than pants and shorts etc .. on land.
