  1. Actually, while this is a glitch, it is explainable. The Equinox was originally stationed in the Med this time of year and that map is the itinerary it would have been on had it stayed. I know because I was booked on a 12 day out of Barcelona as that shows. One day Iooked at my reservation and it had turned into an 11 day Southern Caribbean. I had to switch to a 10 day Reflection cruise which I am about to start.

  2. My son and his fiancé are getting married in March. For their honeymoon they've decided on a 5 day cruise on Brilliance of the Seas. So they have booked an inside room. I'd like to upgrade them to a Grand Suite as a gift, but I'd like it to be a surprise. How would one go about doing something like that? If I have their reservation number, could I call RCCL to upgrade them? How would I keep it a surprise? I'm guessing I probably have to at least get my son in on it. Anyone here ever done anything like this? Thanks in advance.

  3. I wish, The phenomena is caused by the website not being able to cope with the new policy of allowing you to pre-pay for excursions, etc with OBC. It happens when you pay with a CC for an excursion and then cancel and re-add using OBC. I have a -$697 bal due for an upcoming cruise in Sep, but it's all due to cancelling/re-booking using OBC.

I'm thinking this is a temporary (<1 year) phenomena that will continue until people that pre-booked excursions, etc using actual $$ fade away as everyone realizes they can use OBC.

Your real balance is on your invoice. If you have doubts, call Captain's Club.

  4. Just my opinion but I would never trust their website with final payment. Past history from various posters on CC has shown that what was a 0 balance can turn into something other than 0 for no apparent reason. CC'ers report calling customer service and getting it fixed, but if they weren't watching, I would think it possible their cruise reservation could have been cancelled for lack of final payment.

  5. We are used to cruising with Princess where our cabin is available when we board, but is the same true with Celebrity? Thank you

Having sailed both Princess and Celebrity, I have always pushed back on the Princess cruisers who think Princess is better since your cabin is "ready" once you board. In truth, Princess doesn't let you on the ship until the cabins are ready. I've also boarded a Princess ship with my cabin still being cleaned/made up when it was supposedly "ready". Anyway, you'll find that you can board a Celebrity cruise earlier than a Princess cruise, but your rooms are ready at basically the same time. Others may have different experiences, but I enjoy boarding earlier even if I have to wait for m cabin to be ready.

  6.

The other tour was on a train Panama. It was the original but restored train used in the building of the Panama Canal. Again, the scenery was spectacular...very tropical. We did get off the train and go to various places for short visits, but I thought the best part was the train trip itself.

Interesting how perspectives are different. That Panama Canal train tour qualifies as one of my worst tours. We didn't have enough time at any of the stops; the train broke down on the way back for an hour in the heat; and we didn't have time to shop in the port stores afterward.

  7. Agadir, Morocco. This was a totally unplanned excursion. Our original excursion plans with a large CC group got cancelled on the dock after the buses the CC'er had arranged never showed up. So we decided to take the free shuttle into "town". We were thinking, ok, we'll just walk around the town like we've done in other ports. Well, "into town" turned out to be the middle of a big parking lot at an abandoned building with about 50 taxi drivers waiting to pounce on people exiting the buses. Given that we had planned an excursion out of town and had not done any planning or thought of where to go, we decided to take up one of the taxi driver's offers of 35 Euros to tour the city. Keep in mind that I do extensive planning prior to a cruise, so if we are going to walk around, I already know the places I want to go. This was totally different and totally spontaneous (very hard for this engineer). We told the driver we wanted to see a souk and look for a leather jacket. He told us the regular souk as closed so he took us to a smaller souk. Outside the souk were parked one car and a camel. By now we were thinking, "Oh boy, we are getting taken for a ride alright". We asked the driver to meet us back in an hour or so. "Oh no," he said. He would stay with us the whole time. Well, that was a comfort. Anyway, it turned out to be a really cool place. He did take us to a leather store later and I did buy a leather jacket (although I suspect the store owner was a relative :)). We got to know the driver, the culture, the history, all from a local who was very proud of his country. It was the best day.

  8. Thanks all! When/how do I choose my disembark time?

Usually the next to the last day you will get luggage tags with an assigned time. You can always change this at Guest Services. I believe the initial assignment is based on what you entered in your online check in for departure time.

  9. Welcome to Cruise Critic and Celebrity. And congratulations! You came to the right place for info. Also, you should join your roll call for more info and to get to know your fellow cruisers.

Pay restaurants on Equinox are Tuscan Grille, Murano, Silk Harvest, Qsine, Sushi on Five. No fee restaurants are Oceanview (buffet)' Mast Grille (burgers and hot dogs), Main dining room (don't remember the name), and Aqua Spa Cafe. Luminae is for suites. Blu is for Aqua class. What "package" are you referring to? If you purchased a dining pkg you can go to any of the added fee restaurants without any additional charge.

Inconsistent info from operators and crappy websites are a hallmark of X land service. Don't let that discourage you, though. Service onboard is night and day better than their land service. Once you've taken your first cruise with X you will be a Captain's Club member. Use them for any info from then on. Much more helpful than the avg customer service rep.

    You'll love the Equinox.

  10. "Mobile Passport" is really a bit of a misnomer, as it has more to do with eliminating the paper customs declaration than it has to do with passports. Using the app to submit your passport information along with your declaration, the USG has an electronic record of this information. So on the one hand, you can be processed more quickly, while on the other, they greatly reduce their paper handling and storage requirements. They could have done this without a dedicated line to fast track passengers through Primary, but then there would have been little incentive for passengers to use the app. By providing an expedited line, the USG and passengers using the app both benefit.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense.

  11. Try using Google Chrome and calm down. I've been accessing my reservations and booking mock cruises all dang day.

Tried using the website from my iPad and there is not even an option to book excursions on my next reservation. I am able to log into the old website using Google Chrome on my PC and make reservations.

Maybe the new website is Celebrity's way of addressing all the whining that took place about the old website. Doesn't look so bad now, does it? [emoji12]

  12. Just scored 1138 on Summit for August. Moved from 1133. Can't wait!

Hope you have calm waters. Otherwise, be prepared to try and stop the squeak in the ceiling/wall joint across from the bed. Also, bring duct tape to hold the cabinets and drawers shut. We had an extremely rough night on our Canada/NE cruise last fall. But even in relatively calm waters that wall/ceiling squeak kept me awake. I could tell that many occupants before me had tried and failed to stop that squeak. Anyway, it is a great balcony. Hope you like listening to the movie from the rooftop terrace.

If you can't tell, I have soured on deck 11 A1's since the addition of the rooftop terrace.

  13. I caught a nasty cough right after a 2 week Canada/NE cruise on Summit. I finally went to my dr after two weeks of not getting better. He prescribed a Z pak and sent me on my way. Two weeks later and no better I went back to the dr. By then I had pulled a muscle in my stomach or diaphragm from coughing so much. The dr prescribed a much stronger anti-biotic, which made me sick to my stomach for the week I took it. Two weeks later and not any better I went back to the dr. The dr decided to send me for a chest X-ray. At this point my "cough" has turned into something that was making me fear for my life. So two days later I checked myself into the ED because I self diagnosed appendicitis. I was right and spent the next week after emergency surgery recovering from a massive infection. So don't dismiss the idea of going to the ED if your dr can't help. Definitely go to a different dr and get another opinion. Most important thing is don't wait like I did as I almost didn't make it to write this post.

  14. Sweet! I had just booked a dining package last week. I was able to cancel it and re- book using OBC. I did notice one other thing, and maybe it is just my cruise (10 night eastern Med), but I noticed that several excursions can now only be booked online ahead of time and not onboard. I wonder if allowing pax to use OBC and this new "online only" booking of some excursions is a way for X to better plan their excursion volume in advance.

  15. Not to hijack your thread, but Norwegian is the only cruise line that charges taxes on drinks while in Port Canaveral. The other lines wait until they are at sea to log the sales. Well, I can only speak for RCCL having sailed from there many times. Can't speak for CCL.

  16. Did a transfer once in Cape Liberty. From the airport to the ship was fine as our flight arrived early and we got on an earlier bus. Going from the port back to the airport was a disaster. Everyone trying to get on multiple buses, trying to figure out which bus went to which terminal. And then to boot I caught a bad cough from others on the bus who had gotten sick on the cruise. Never again. Uber is the choice.

  17. You will typically get a letter in your room the first night with a suggested dining time for the first night only. I've always ignored that and only had a wait once or twice.

  18. I'm with you. Last year on RCCL we purchased our drink package while still in port and were not charged tax on the package itself or individual drinks. we were told they don't actually input the sale into the computer until after we have left port.

Same here. Sailed Enchantment 3 times and DW sailed Majesty last month. We were never charged sales tax on drinks in port.
