  1. Apparently QM2 has azipod problems and will be late into Hamburg

That's not the first time. During the last refit this problem was taken care of. Thanks for the update

  2. I've just been looking at the live webcam in Stavanger and QM2 is still tied up, while Queen Elizabeth is just leaving, disappearing behind QM2.

Thanks for the update. That's a lovely sight to see

  3. Right :(, but there are other ships crossing the North Atlantic, although none of them does it better than QM2 .

    Anyway, Easter is over! :p

Hi Cats, I love the roundtrip QM2 sailings from NY. There were so many RT

in previous years. I do a few transatlantic crossing every year on the QM2.

    True ,QM2 does it better.:p

by the way, Where is the QM2?

  4. Yes, she did her last crossing of the North Atlantic in December 2012 and was on a world voyage from January to April 2013.

Actually, she is on her way from Soton to New York (a trans-atlantic, which is the correct spelling, by the way).

In 2013, there will be 9 westbounds and 8 eastbounds, or shuttle services

of the North Atlantic, provided my info is correct. Cruises in between transatlantic sailings,

I hope you will be able to agree! :p

    But there are NO Roundtrip

Transatlantic sailings from New York /Brooklyn. . :p

  5. :) ... their national colours. It's so wonderful to arrive in a harbour and be greeted that way, and QM2 deserves it!

Yes it is very exciting to be on board and have that welcome. Rotterdam is a beautiful port

I was disappointed in the port of Le Harve. There wasn't any boat reception in the harbour . The Pier looked decrepit, depressing. Nothing like the way it was when we would arrive on the France.:(

  6. I am slightly confused by your post but having said that I am always in a state of confusion. The Queen Mary 2 per year does more trans Atlantic trips than her predecessor IF, if we pretend her predecessor was the QE2. The Queen Mary might not be as fast as the QE2 but on just about everything else ism she a better ship? She is without any shadow of a doubt a better sea going vessel, a more stable vessel and might I suggest she is more luixurious?

The only better looking ships in my opinion are those belonging to my fleet but sadly trips on those two vessels are by invitation only :p

    Qm2 & QE & QE2. Are stable ships.

    The QM2 is in Liverpool

  7. The ship I was talking about is the Gorch Fock II :p

Right, I love to see flotilla sail along the QM2. When I arrived in Rotterdam,on the QM2

we were greeted with Dutch fireboats spraying Blue,Orange ,natural sea colors!

there were flags of orange flying ,from the buildings and the boats sailing along with us into the harbor. Very Nice:)

  8. She left Soton about an hour ago and is on her way to Hamburg to celebrate the Harbor Anniversary, a great event with ships' parades from everywhere, including the Gorch Fock :D

AHH NICE!!!! thank you... That was a fast Transatlantic. And the Grand Fock?:D

  9. Your comments speak for themselves.

Please don't attack posters who are expressing their opinion.

Have a nice day. Do you know where the QM2 is?:)

  10. I am going to break a cardinal rule about not feeding the trolls on this board by responding to you. You accuse me of sensationalism and lots of "BLAH?" Please re-read your posts, you are the one with blind accusations of Captains deliberately going through storms. I think you have some serious problems with "BLAH,BLAH," and "sensationalism."

    Ricki

Have you sailed on a ship? Have you done a transatlantic? or do you editorialize on the internet?

  11. Hi turquoise 6,

Could you let me know which captains and on which crossings please?

All but one of my voyages have been far too smooth, like mill-ponds, VERY disappointing. We might as well have been tied up to the quay.

Strangely, I am prepared for a ship at sea to move about, that there will be "motion of the ocean". I look at it this way... mightly ocean v small ship... only one winner!

Only on my last crossing was there any movement, which was wonderful :) . Really hit a storm :) . I had great fun getting out of my cabin and walking around the ship, there were plenty of handrails. Ordering drinks in the Commodore Club was a hoot as the room went up and down, it was like being in a lift! On one evening a wave smashed against the windows of the Britannia Restaurant, and the view vanished for a few seconds, a lady turned to me and said "I've never had a formal dinner in a submarine before!".

So obviously I know of one captain's name (and will book when he's in command again, no question), but if could let me have the others, I'd be most grateful. Thank you in advance.

    All best wishes,

    Hi Pepper,

well , there are 2 captains that i know of who have retired. They are the

captains/commodores who stay the course in a depression. There ships are made for heavy seas!!!

On one transatlantic crossing I attended a Captains Cocktail Party, and one American passenger was very upset and confronted the captain and was holding "a martini" in her hand ,about always having rough weather that day. Why didn't he move the ship away from the storm.? LOL but this is the "Cruise Passenger" who likes sailing the North Atlantic as though it was Central Park Lake:rolleyes:

My best advice if you like to sail in rough seas, sail during the Hurricane season. You may get lucky and hit "THE PERFECT STORM":)

  12. Captains/Commodores are charged with the safety and well-being of the guests, crew and the ship. It sounds unlikely that a Captain/Commodore would purposely seek out a storm and sail through it intentionally. There would be questions asked if guests were injured because of the movement or breakage occurred on the ship. The cost of fuel is a consideration if the ship had to go well out of her way to avoid a storm, but when weighed against safety and guest comfort, I doubt that much rationalization is needed.

    Ricki

You are editorializing the post .sensationalism on your part and lots of "BLAH <BLAH>" LOL

Some captains/Commodores stay on course with certain weather depressions. These decisions are made by a group ,: staff captain ,officers, and modern Navigational equipment. There are some captains/commodores who ,based on their info. will not divert north ,south west and stay on course and ride the storm.

    The ships are safe

  13. :o:o

    Hi Turquoise,

I would like to think the master of the ship knew what he was doing but I was not there and cannot comment.

I have taken a degree of stick for my views\stance on the sea keeping qualities of the Queen Elizabeth but in really rough weather might I suggest her bigger sister would handle the conditions in a better manner?

There are captains & commodores who are KNOWN to provide

A challenging crossing . Names withheld

I have been aboard the QM2 in very rough seas

    And I felt it. I couldn't leave my stateroom. I couldn't

    Walk around.

My point is both ships are ocean going vessels and

In rough weather they will move

Don't under estimate the Queen Elizabeth & don't

    Over estimate the QM2

    Now that's my opinion.

  14. Heyyy.. I'm on your side and would no doubt do something similar :o:o

Thanks! We are on the same boat!!!!;) But there are Captains who prefer to sail into the storm. I was on board the QM2 with one of these Captains. I felt the movement!

  15. I have always been indecisive but now I not even sure about that.

It is possible that some folks think that this fine ship will either walk on water or hover above it.;)

All ships will rock and roll on the seas. The rougher the more rocking.

Now all also depends on the Captain. Does he want to head on into the storm,or

divert the ship in another direction.?

What would you do with your fleet in rough seas?

  16. Please note I am not being critical of the QE2 and I am sure that compared to her peers she was indeed a state of the art 'liner' and a trend setter for the new type of cruise holidays :)

Apart from the size of the QM2, her design, she also has stabilisers and other items of technological wonder that helps to keep her far more stable than the older vessel. Having said all this, no matter how hard they try, ships cannot defy the laws of physics and even this iconic vessel will sometimes have to play second fiddle to mother nature ;);)

are you sure about that?

  17. So glad the transatlantic season has started! I will be crossing four times this summer. Until then I will watch where she is on either marinetraffic or sea scanner.

HI, good for you! Enjoy the transatlantic voyages:)

  18. Hi turquoise 6,

My friends on board the QM2 (or should that be the Queen Mary 2? :) ) tell me that they are currently in the North Atlantic heading for New York, having left Southampton on Friday.

(I'm never sure if it should be Transatlantic, TransAtlantic (I note you use both) or Trans-Atlantic. Anyone know? ).

    All best wishes,

    Hi Pepperrn,

Thanks for the update. I will be in NY looking out for the QM2 arrival. It's a beautiful sight ,the QM2, sailing in from across the Atlantic Ocean.

Cats says its Trans-Atlantic .. true,I write transatlantic as one word sometimes..

    Cheers,

    T

  19. Yes, she did her last crossing of the North Atlantic in December 2012 and was on a world voyage from January to April 2013.

I hope you will be able to agree! :p

Hi Cats, OK thanks , so its trans-atlantic , hope i remember

    Thanks for update:)

  20. Just wondering why you only hang out on the cunard boards when it seems you really don't like them all that much.

So, according to your definition, a ship can only be called an ocean liner when it travels Southampton - New York? There are a few more oceans than just the Atlantic and a few more countries than just USA and UK.

Maybe next time they'll consult you when they prepare their schedules.

Well, Well ,Well. " Hang out " on the Cunard Boards.

Since I am hanging out on the Cunard Boards...(so there are more than one I hang out) I will respond to your off end comments . TRANSATLANTIC IS BETWEEN NY AND SOUTHAMPTON(NOT AUSTRALIA0) This is how it was,and this is how it is. :D Where is the QM2?

  21. QM2 is in Southampton today, leaving for another TA tonight.
Another TransAtlantic? When was the another??:D Last year!

You missed the point. This is all about the QM2 not doing TransAtlantic crossing. I prefer Transatlantic and not TA, as in airport abbreviations :LHR,JFK,LAX Where is the QM2?

  22. Yes, it is so nice the way that Cunard lets our humble foot soldiers indulge their harmless vices on board. A little bending of the rules never did go astray (as long as the rules being bent are not those set out in the Dress Code).

NO Bending of the rules!!! and do not indulge!
