    This Eligible list includes:

    Carnival

    Costa

    HAL

    P&O Australia

    Princess

    Seabourn

It looks like it would cope with multiple bookings because Princess is in both my Eligible and Redeemed lists. In the Eligible list I can click on Princess and go through the Redeem Perk process again, for another cruise.

Cunard should also be on that list too as we received OBC through the carnival shareholder?

    We just did this....

We took a trans-pacific (HAL) cruise and arrived at Yokohama 10/15 then spent 5 nights at the Yokohama Sheraton.

Fantastic first time visit to Asia.

    Our itinerary:

    • Sunday arrived and took Yokohama Metro (blue line) 3 blocks from the ship to Yokohama station.  Hotel is accessible underground from the Yokohama train station.  Activated Japan rail pass and got seat reservations. Train to Tokyo and evening dinner cruise in Tokyo.  Back to Yokohama late night
    • Monday....train to Tokyo
    • Tuesday...bullet train to Kyoto....from Yokohama took regular JR train to Shin-Yokohoma station to catch bullet train.  Passed by Mt Fuji on bullet train....that was enough of Mt Fuji for us.  Tea with the gisha and good food and sights.
    • Wednesday....back to Tokyo via train ...... then afternoon in Yokohama China town and harbor.
    • Thursday....bullet train to Kanazawa.  Took regular JR train to Tokyo (28 minutes) and then bullet train to Kanazawa...fun day of gardens, castles and sempora...sp?
    • Friday.....final shopping in Yokohama (dept store above train station) and then Narita Express train to the airport.

Trains were easy, frequent, clean, fast and ON TIME!  We had a "green car" JR pass and that was a nice extra.  glad we did that.

    Ask me anything.

Never thought about staying in Yokohama before cruise as planned Tokyo, did you find Yokohama less busy and the evening dinner cruise in Tokyo was that a tour or just buy a ticket please?

  4. We have the NAB Visa Platinum debit card which comes with travel insurance, it costs $10 month, which we think cheap considering it covers travel insurance with an excess of $75 for domestic travel and $400 excess for international travel, they have also increased the age from76 to 81, so happy, which takes affect from November this year.

At present only ANZ, Westpac, and St George, possibly NAB, give free Credit Card travel Insurance, that covers Covid, which I believe is the cruise insurance required.

Which ever one your with, check with them for covid cover on a cruise.

Hopefully yours will, it will save you a lot money if they do.

Otherwise you will need to get cover from a travel insurance company.

    Best of luck

    John

NAB also give Credit Card travel insurance proof, we had it done on a cruise we did this year that went to Fiji.

It doesn’t cover for cancellation for travel to Norfolk Island. Also It doesn’t cover pre existing medical conditions either.

I knew i didn't cover pre existing medical conditions, as we don't have any at this stage.  Surprised about Norfolk Island as when I rang them they sent me a letter for New Caledonia.  NAB do cover cancellations.

My NAB Platinum Visa Debit card has free travel insurance. It costs $10 a month and you have to spend at least $500 on trips through their card. Unfortunately medical cover cuts out at 76 and you can't cover pre-existing conditions.

We have the NAB platinum visa debit card and are doing as much travel as we can afford, before husband turns 76.  Works for us and saves a lot of money in regards to travel insurance.

We would recommend four nights to help with jet lag and to see as much as possible in Tokyo.   We also would recommend spending an equivalent amount of time or longer  in Kyoto,   It is absolutely spectacular and a day trip from the cruise will barely scratch the surface.

We stayed in Shibuya as it is easy to access a lot from that area and took private transport arranged through out hotel from the port.    We also liked the area around Ginza.  Public transport will also be available but it will depend on how much luggage you have whether this is practical or not.

Thank you for info,  did you stay in Kyoto at all?

  9. First time cruising out of Yokohama next September on the Diamond Princess, trying to work out best area for accommodation on Tokyo, as we plan to stay in Tokyo for either 3 or 4 nights, not 100% sure how long we need at the moment  and also how to get from Tokyo to Yokohama for cruise any assistance great appreciated.

I will jump in and mention that we are just finishing up 11 independent days in Japan where we have spent our time in Tokyo and Kyoto (using the excellent trains).  We have a blog going on the HAL board where we talk about the fun of doing things on one's own.  Like most DIY travel, much of the secret is in doing some pre-trip homework, having a spirit of adventure, and exercising some basic travel common sense.  And I like to tell folks that it does not take a PhD to ask folks for help 🙂

    Hi Hank,

We will be going on a cruise from Sydney to Japan finishing in Yokohama, notice you have travelled to Japan before,  we have booked the Quintessa Hotel Comic which is 14.8 kms from central Tokyo, do you have any recommendations on accommodation as you have been there before, we are looking at staying 3 nights before flying back to Australia. (we have done a lot of travelling and I have booked independent tours and accommodation, however, Japan I am having a bit of a challenge navigating it all).

From the New York Times Travel Section this weekend, they will have this headline: 36 Hours Tokyo by Motoko Rich, and images by Andrew Faulk, with these highlights: “For two-and-a-half years, pandemic border controls kept international travelers out of Tokyo, leaving its neon shopping precincts and most popular temples and shrines to the locals. Now, with foreign tourists welcomed back since October, those willing to explore beyond highly trafficked neighborhoods like Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku and wander down side streets in places like Setagaya or Koto will be richly rewarded with offbeat boutiques, cafes or surprising oases of natural beauty. Think of Tokyo as a warren of concealed gems, where you can drink at an artisanal bar tucked up in a small office or apartment building or taste exquisite sushi in a basement at the end of a dark street.”

This detailed profile has a wide range of tips, options and potentials, including about eestaurants and bars, shopping and markets, outdoor activities and cultural attractions, where to stay and for getting around.  Here is an example for one tip: "Head back into the urban fray of Ginza, Tokyo’s original luxury retail district, where you can gawk at the Issey Miyake showroom or peruse designer brands like Commes des Garcons, A Bathing Ape, Supreme and Kolor at the Dover Street Market. For far more affordable (and edible) designs, visit Ginza Akebono, a traditional Japanese confectionery shop that dates back to 1948 when Tokyo was recovering from the devastation of the war."

In February 2024, we are planning for a Mumbai to Singapore, 18-day cruise.  In going back home from Singapore, our best flight options with American Airlines Frequent Flyer miles would involve going through Tokyo's HND airport.  We are looking at spending a day or two in Tokyo.  First time for India, Singapore, Japan, etc.  What other tips, suggestions, etc., can experienced Tokyo visitors share in reaction to this NY Times story?  Appreciate any and all ideas and insights!!

Have you booked any accommodation in Tokyo as yet, we are arriving on a cruise ship next April and the accommodation and areas is quite overwhelming in respect of where to stay and some hotels are very very expensive?

  12. Is Princess considering building some smaller ships like the size of Coral Princess, Sapphire Princess, they are an ideal size and still have the wonderful traditional cruising feel, these newer ships, are becoming building blocks rather than cruise ships.

Tea/Coffee making facilities in cabin would be great for Australia, other cruise lines supply

Elite:  I'm not sure why you took away the free minutes for wifi, I found it really great for overseas.  Found the minutes we got enough for us.  The new set up is very expensive.

Have Princess thought about doing virtual inside cabins, we were on one with a competitor cruise line and it was great?

  13. We just recently came of the Queen Elizabeth ship, and have cruised with P&O, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Princess.  We had an obstructed oceanview cabin on deck 4, great location.  We have also just completed 2 P&O cruises, the P&O cruises entertainment onboard was great, food average, Queen Elizabeth, food was lovely, cabin steward fantastic. Entertainment was great.  I would say the Queen Elizabeth is more layback, however, they have guest speakers on board, the afternoon tea and also if you feel athletic, chair aerobics, line dancing, zumba gold, all inclusive.  The dress code is more strict on formal nights whereby if you want to go into a restaurant, you will need a tie and jacket, other evenings, slacks and polo shirt is fine.  They also now have anytime dining which we enjoyed too.  If you have any other questions happy to answer to the best of my ability.

Apart from this mess. How did you find Pacific Explorer in 2022. Not a mini suite, but say a balcony or o/v? The reason I am asking as we are considering a cruise from Cairns, but these photos concern me.Could not think of anything worse, than being on a for 10 days if the cabin looked like this. Also,I have a phobia with rodents too! Every time book,I change my mind! Appreciate your opinion.Cheryle

We were on Pacific explorer for 3 nights in December and really enjoyed the ship, our cabin was lovely, we are going back on her end of March for 4 nights.
