  1. I played in the blackjack tournament two afternoons ago. I finished fourth at my table which is not good enough to advance. The tournament rules are very loose. The first round is played at only one single table. This means that several games are played in succession for the first round. That gives a huge edge to players playing later within a round because they know the chip score from them prior games. To prevent this, usually each round is done with multiple tables playing simultaneously. You get to play seven hands per game. The player who is dealt the first card is not rotated until the final round. By not rotating where the first card is dealt, the player at the third base position has an edge.
  2. We’re had drinks with @wayneg1 (Wayne and Karen) at 5pm last night. They are a most delightful couple. They are happily retired and do an impressive amount of travelling. It is something for me to aspire to. We went to Le Petit Chef last night for dinner. It was for the earlier of the two sittings. I think the place was only 40% full. @biggerboat47 (Ken and Carol) were seated with a couple of friends behind my wife. The menu and show are built around the four seasons. One season for each course. First was spring Then summer followed by autumn And finally winter—dessert time. I spent an extra $20 to buy the wine pairing for each course.
  3. I have nothing to show you from today. Here’s something from yesterday. We saw putting yesterday. unfortunately this person eventually 5 putted.
  4. I am prone to seasickness. I tend to be the first to go down if and when the seas get rough. It also doesn’t help that we are in an aft cabin where the ship’s motion is magnified and at its worst. Still I have booked aft and bow cabins for 14 out of our 15 cruises with Celebrity (that’s where the FV cabins always are). That’s how infrequent sea sickness hits me despite my sensitivity to it. My wife went to the MDR tonight and reported that it looked like everyone showed up. That’s a better indicator. Show that to your husband!
  5. My wife brought back to our cabin a simple dinner for me from the Ocean View Cafe. Thin spaghetti noodles cooked in butter and garlic with Parmesan cheese added on top. I hadn’t eaten anything of substance all day. It was so good. I’m very lucky (talking about my wife).
  6. Wow. Suez Canal, Egypt, Dubai, Holy Land, and India? Indiana Jones itinerary! Singapore is going to be boring for you.
  7. I have been sipping on ginger ale and laying out on the couch on the balcony or on the couch in the sitting area. The weather has been cool and misty outside. This is the stuff that Celebrity leaves out of their sales brochures and emails. Kind of like everyone’s idea of marriage when you are in high school.
  8. Not much to report today as I was in the cabin the whole tIme. That meant I missed the roll call slot pull that @guysdolls66 put together. I hope the turnout was good and the slot machine was kind.
  9. Melinda Bates is on board as one of the enrichment speakers. Once she found out that she was assigned to our sailing, she has been participating in our roll call under screen name @BajagirlMB She gave her first presentation yesterday morning (our first sea day) at 10am are the Celebrity Theater. I think she will be giving 9 presentations in all. Yesterday’s presentation was an introductory one about herself, how she met Bill Clinton when they were attending Georgetown, how she landed her White House position, and some of her experiences. Her talk was well attended yesterday. She is an excellent public speaker and she is very proud of the work that she did. But she is very humorous and likes to make fun of herself.
  10. Our final stop was Cartagena itself. Everything that we toured was within easy walking distance of the ship. The tour included a view of an ancient Roman theater that was discovered in three 1990’s. We broke from the tour to go to the museum and the theater itself (6 Euros pp).
  11. The seas are a little rough today and the Internet connection intermittent. Here’s a continuation of our tour in Murcia: Our mini bus then took us to downtown Murcia. Here are some photos. There was some type of large gathering for young kids in one of the city plazas. It looked fun for them, but it made it difficult to hear our guide.
  12. Dec 22 2023 Solstice 12 night Singapore to Hong Kong. We also are booked on the Nov 18 2023 Xpedition.
  13. Congratulations. Compared to the one we are on, you pick up an extra port (Malaga, Spain) and an extra night (16 v 15). We originally had the Nov 2023 Constellation sailing booked. When our Dec 2022 Asia sailing (Solstice) was cancelled by Celebrity earlier this year and rebooked for next year, it left us with no cruise for this year. So we cancelled the 2023 TA and booked this one.
  14. It’s possible that it’s a casualty of a European energy conservation effort? Or the light bulb is burnt out.
  15. I didn't have time yesterday to post an account of the full day tour of Cartagena and Murcia. It was a successful small group private tour organized by @Bob29321. Like the full day Palma de Mallorca private tour by the same company, it cost only 69 Euros per person. There were approximately 20 people from our roll call that participated. A good English speaking guide and driver were provided. We were transported in a mini-bus that could hold around 22 passengers not counting the driver or guide. The bus had seating for two on the driver's side of the aisle and seating for one on the passenger side of the aisle. Being a smaller bus that the full size coach that was used in Palma, seating was a bit tighter. The seats reclined which made the space in front of you even tighter. The smaller bus did not have large overhead storage and so any backpacks would have to be carried on your lap. The guide asked that we wear our masks during the bus ride citing a local regulation that required it. This request was not made during the Palma de Mallorca bus tour from the day before. We, of course, complied. The tour was comprised of 3 stops: Santuario de Nuestra Senora de la Fuesanta, the city of Murcia, and finally the city of Cartagena. Our guide met us just outside the gate for the pier area. It was a very short walk from the ship. The area of Cartagena located close to the pier had a lot to offer--shops, cafe's, churches, and Roman ruins--which meant that you could explore the port on your own. We piled into the bus and took a ride to Santuario de Nuestra Senora de la Fuensanta (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Holy Fountain). This church is located on an elevated area that overlooks Murcia. The bus ride there from the pier took about 45 minutes. There was nice scenery along the way. I found the church to be impressive despite the fact that we had already seen a lot of them in Rome and Palma. I will let you google to find out more about the history of this Baroque style designed church. The church's interior had a spectacular sanctuary with a gold altar, statue of Mary, and a magnificent painted 8 meter diameter dome. There is an active nunnery. The nunnery is connected to the main sanctuary by an elevated enclosed walkway (photo below).
  16. The Big Dipper, standing on its tail, is visible over the Spanish coast.
