  1. I completely agree with this.....even though it will be our first time, we picked it for it's historical and cultural value. Just thinking that this is one of the first, if not the first European settlement in the "new world" by Columbus, no matter what you think of him, gives me chills.....

Oh my heavens no!!! This is not a disappointing port of call at all, unless you favor places like Grand Cayman and St. Thomas that are shopping and beaches.

DR is a beautiful country!!! And the people were incredibly friendly. Book an excursion and enjoy your travels!

  2. By signing up and letting me track a couple of days I earned 10000 extra points on top of the first 5000+3000+1000+1000 for a total of 20000. I used 15000 and plan on accumulating more every chance I get with the free code offers. I am planning on many more cruises :)

  3. We are renting a car in FLL dropping off the next day at Port of Miami. We would still like to be close to downtown or beach. Any Hotel that does not charge for parking or would it be better just to drop off the car later at night same day and catching a shuttle to port?

We get in really early and plan to drive around quite a bit, so shuttle service from the Fort Lauderdale airport to miami is not an option.

    Thanks

  4. I signed up and got the 5000 points plus 3000 for videos watched....didn't get the 10000 for downloading the drivewise app....am I missing something? Thanks

You need to sign up at www.allstaterewards.com

Make sure you're synced in with the app, and you're good to go. You should get 5000 for signing up, 10000 for the app tracking, plus more if you let it keep tracking you. Depending upon your driving habits, you can rack up points. You'll also get them for watching videos and redeeming promo codes from emails you receive.

  5. Thanks! That is what I was thinking...I may just be too far out....Splendor in October. Don't have that option at this time.

No, you can pick before having paid in full. I encourage you to go ahead and pick, especially if you want the earlier times. They fill up fast.

Last year, we did a kind of back to back on the Fantasy then the Conquest. The Fantasy had staggered check in. The Conquest did not. There was a huge difference. And having sailed from Miami before staggered check in began - this is a huge improvement. From the time we set foot in the terminal to the time we set foot on the ship was 32 minutes. And we were moving most of that time. It also included a bathroom stop!

  6. We just returned from being on the Golden Princess. Both my sister and I have Verizon plans and I also have a Verizon phone. My sister has an Iphone. We had either very poor or no service. In Skagway we tried to contact each other to meet for lunch but did not have service and in Ketchikan we did not have service. I had heard that Verizon was in Alaska but I think the service is poor.

That is how our experience was with Iphones in July. Poor service (either 1X or 3G).

Really, really slow data that didn't go through most times. When it did, we did not get charged extra.

Totally random, at night while charging, would pick up our emails, Facebook updates and messages.

Before we left, we bought the cruise ship data plan ($25 for 100 MB) from Verizon, which their website and their customer service said should work on ship. Did not work, got credit back.

  7. Not saying if it is right or wrong, but just ask your concierge.

They have a lot of leeway, and if it is only another couple they might just say yes! After all they want to make YOU happy!

Yes, this is first hand knowledge!

  8. Do you think we would be able to make same day reservations? I am sure that if everyone can make reservations my concierge could get me my time. :;)

We traveled last month with family staying in a Haven suite on the Pearl. They were able to get same day reservations for the time they desired through the concierge. It just got a little confusing sometimes if there was a line, you had to wait in it. Once up there you would get seated right away.

  9. Entertainment -

NCL - very disappointed in NCL's entertainment. There was

the ventriloquist- who wasn't funny and I think it is weird.

A comedian - who was funny enough

Second City - I did not think they were funny my kids kinda did. My daughter just told me to remember it is a school for comedy.

the comedian and second city did a family and adult show

That's Entertainment - was the production (?) show. The dancers were good but there was zero sets. They danced on an empty stage that had "Play posters" hanging on the side. Wicked, the Producers, etc. They preformed songs from these shows. I wasn't impressed and my daughter who would love to be a dancer wasn't either.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw....we were on the Pearl the week of July 13. The standout shows were "Oh What a Night Tribute" really good and Charles Peachock Juggler (amazing). So good that they had an extra show one night just for the two acts encore. We had the comedian and Second City and a Tina Turner tribute show. We did not have the ventriloquist. They did announce that a couple of the band members for Oh What a Night Tribute were going to be taking some time off. Charles Peachock even held a juggler class one afternoon in Spinnakers.(Not your everyday juggler, just look him up)

  10.

A balcony would have been useless unless you wanted to freeze you axx off. We had reasonably good weather but none of us would just sit out on the balcony to see wildlife. Maybe when entering or leaving ports.

    I totally agree with you!!

We were on the Pearl a couple of weeks ago, had an ocean view, one away from promenade deck. Great for walking and watching wildlife! And even though we had great weather it would have been tough just sitting on a balcony, as the ship always had just one sunny side!

  11. Open up your passport and read the section titled, "Alteration or mutilation of passport."

Yes, and also "Only government officials US or foreign may place stamps"...

So what do I do? Has that ever been enforced? There was a long line of people stamping passports!

  12. That's correct. Getting an unofficial stamp in your passport invalidates it. Getting them on a separate piece of paper is a better idea.

So do they frown upon it or does it invalidate the passport? There is a big difference. I did stamp mine and DH passports!

  13. I was on the WPYR a week ago on Wednesday, 7/16 and did the Bennett Scenic Journey, Skagway to Carcross, through Chilkoot. Wonderful trip, the weather cooperated and everyone we were with had a great time. Mike from Chilkoot and the staff on the train were all friendly and a pleasure to be with.

Please, don't let this derailment cause you to alter your plans.

We were there too, same day. Great trip, awesome weather, beautiful scenery.

  14. Here are the web site for both. They both leave every 30 minutes, charge $20 for a 20 minute ride. Blue Bus seems to have an extra hour of service at the beginning and end.

It's a simple 20 minute bus ride ... what does it matter as long as the schedule works for you.

No it doesn't matter which one, but before I left I was under the impression that the white bus was sub-par.

    Just wanted to rectify.

On the day we were there the white bus was running every 20 minutes, they must adjust their schedule depending upon the traffic in port.

  15. We also looked for the Blue Bus and ended up on the white bus - it was fine. Though Mendenhall was really croweded and the visitor's center was a zoo! I was disappointed that the Nugget Falls trail was closed due to flooding. If it had been open some of the congestion at the glaicer may have been alleviated.

How about that weather though!!! 60 to 90 percent chance of rain turned into almost no rain at all. We just had some early morning upon arrival in Ketchikan, gone by the time we were off the ship!
