How about the train? I’m researching this now and the train is only about 30 minutes directly to the airport.

Just rec'd an email saying our boarding time and group had changed and sure enough, we are assigned 2pm, group L. We are 4* but were planning to lunch elsewhere and go to board at 2 anyway...
ETA: we are 14 days from embarcation
Maybe Hal changed back to regular arrival times again.

@lais walked down to the Embarcadero yesterday for a lunch at Seaport Village. I have never seen lines stretch all the way to the Broadway Pier. It was crazy.
I’ve boarded with 3 ships in port but have never seen anything like this.
tons of people in line had lots of luggage - were they not allowed to drop it off prior to joining the line?It was a mess. Holland sent an email to every passenger telling them that because there were 2 ships in port to arrive before 11am or after 2.
our little port cannot handle this many people at one time.
it was a very difficult morning- 1

Ubers are allowed in the gate as soon as the port opens at around 10:30. Sometimes earlier for Holland.
there is one line until you get through security (a second line for people who do not have a barcode or Navigator) to have their boarding pass reprinted)after security there are priority check in areas
Also Ubers are allowed in to pick up passengers from Debark.

You could get inside the terminal early but Boarding the ship usually starts at 11:30 and then boarding group A goes first.

Did you try logging out then back in to the app? Maybe that can rest it for you

Try logging out and then back in?
I went on to the website and logged in then tried to access “check in” to see if they assigned my stateroom yet and it won’t let me in. It will let me check out shore excursions and stuff but not the check in. It says I’m already checked in on another browser. I logged off navigator to tried again on web site but I keep getting the same message. I don’t sail for a few weeks and I’m not worried. It was just frustrating.- 1

Are these numbers/times specific to the port, the ship or that specific sailing?
That’s how many people are scheduled for those specific tit

BOTTOM LINE If you do not have a bar code then reprint it a few days before or until you see the bar code. The bar code gets you ON THE SHIP. No bar code you have to go to another line to get it reprinted. If you don’t reprint it and it shows your arrival time TO BE ASSIGNED then your arrival time reverts to AFTER 2 PM. It will not say that on your boarding pass but that is what it will be. Download the navigator app which will show your bar code and assigned time in addition to printing it out.
arrival time and boarding time are 2 different times. Boarding times are groups A, B,C etc ll- 2

We researched this a bit yesterday. It is Metro bus 992. It is downtown San Diego to airport back and forth. You can find more information at sdmps.com, go to routes.
Yes but that is not free red bus Sandiegan is talking about. I think he’s talking about the free shuttle from airport to old town trolly station that can stop by Laural st and that stop is about a mile from the port.

Inside the fence, but luggage drop-off is outside on the pier. They porters will take your $ but for what? Just to leave your bag in the open? Have your boarding pass & ID ready at the gate, they allow private vehicles for drop offs. There is a free Red-Bus that picks up at the airport and drops-off across the street at the County Admin. Building fountain if you like walking. Look it up at the SanDiegoPortAuthority web-site along with what ships are visiting and the LiveWebCam
Wow! I never heard of this bus. I tried to look it up but can’t find the link. Could you post the link for us?

As I will be driving over in a rental car (to be dropped off at the airport), can I just drive up at the port to drop off my luggage? Is it inside or outside of the fence? I will be embarking the Volendam on the 22nd. TIA!!
You can drive in but not until the port opens at 10:30
you can walk luggage in before that but usually not until 9:30 or when the porters are ready from working debark.

I am scheduled to board the Volendam ship to Hawaii on the 22nd. My scheduled boarding is 1:20. However, as a 5-star Mariner with 51 cruises with HAL, I plan to board much earlier.
Just remember boarding the ship doesn’t start until 11:30.
the port usually opens at 10:30 if no delays so if you arrive at 10:30 you’ll sit inside the terminal for an hour or so.

Agree. You have priority, the assigned boarding time doesn't matter. Happened to us in September. There have been several other examples discussed here.
Arrival time and priority boarding are 2 different things. Some people have priority boarding which is “ boarding group A” ie, but maybe a later arrival time.
4* 5* Neptune Suite and Orange Club will have priority arrival time (which is anytime) and Priority boarding. -

I'm fascinated by this potertial long line if you don't have a bar code on your boarding pass. Is it ten minutes or will I miss the sailing if I have to wait three or four hours in this line and the ship leaves with a hndred people still waiting to have the boarding pass checked?
Could be 10 minutes or 30 but if you don’t mind waiting then no problem for you. Most people want to get going. I only posted this as a time saving tip.

Agree. It should clearly show that then.
Remember when you used to check in and were given a room key card that was scanned when you got in the ship? Well now your room keys are outside your stateroom door and your boarding pass bar code is what gets you on the ship

From a pure user interface design perspective, bold type at the top of the page trumps light type at the bottom.
Yes but if no bar code you have to have it reprinted at the pier and if many people do not have the bar code you could be stuck in a long line waiting for that to happen. I posted this to let people know it’s just easier for them to get through the process if you have the bar code as it is SCANNED TO GET ON THE SHIP.

I highly recommend the Navigator app. It has everything you need. Plus a printed copy in case you have phone problems

If you do not have a bar code on your printed boarding pass it means you printed it out too early and then you may be stuck in a long secondary line waiting to have your boarding pass reprinted. If you have the navigator app the bar code will be there on your boarding pass.
wait a few days before your cruise to print it out.

That was not the case with us. The lady at the front gate refused to honor our Neptune Suite priority boarding pass. We were made to stand in the sun for over an hour before we were allowed to board at the time printed on our boarding pass. The San Diego cruise terminal is a mess.
Did this happen to you just post Covid? It was a mess due to the Covid testing holding everything up but now it is so much more organized. I hope you cruise from there again and see the difference.

I hope nobody reads this thread and avoids a cruise because the San Diego port is too terrible. Seriously, we sail out of San Diego a lot, and it's not the greatest, but we've always been on the ship for lunch. And certainly San Diego is a nice place to visit. The airport is minutes from the port. Pretty convenient relative to a whole lot of other places. But I'm sorry that @RuthC had such a bad experience.
Once you get through security it’s very easy especially with checking in by facial recognition.
I admit it was pretty bad just post Covid with everyone having to take a Covid test which backed everything up but it’s so easy now.- 1
4* boarding in San Diego?
in Holland America Line

That is what they do but they need a bar code to scan.
