  1. We did it once on Anthem and NEVER again. Yes, it did save some $ but we learned that we are mid-ship cruisers! Even though we heard that some travel agents will move you if there is availability at the same cabin level, ours would not. So we went where we were assigned....DD and BF were Deck 6 like second cabin from the front. One night the seas were so rough if felt like they were lifting up off the bed with each swell. They wound up leaving the room and staying up all night sitting in La Patisserie. Returned in the morning to a cabin with broken glasses that fell off the counter and many other items displaced. My DH and I had Deck 8 about 5 cabins from the Aft. We felt the motion but were ok. My problem was more the constant vibration feeling. Didn't make me sick or anything, just didn't care for it.
  2. Thanks all for the replies! We are the Aug. 16th cruise. Happy to hear that it's safe area to walk and I didn't even think about there would probably be others doing the same. Good point!
  3. Husband and I are on the Radiance of the Seas this August. Flying into Anchorage on Thursday, spending the night at Wingate by Wyndham on Ship Creek Ave. I have read that the Alaska Railroad is very walkable from hotel, however, we have to be at the train station by 5:45am. Is this an ok area to walk this early in the morning or should we try to book a taxi/uber? Also, our flight gets in at 1:04pm. Any suggestions for a restaurant in the area for dinner?
  4. Thanks to all for the updates. Very happy about this! Our son boards on Dec. 10 for a B2B and we join him for the second week, Dec. 17. Very glad to hear that we shouldn't have to miss any ports, as long as Mother Nature cooperates!
  5. We have our cruise on Dec. 17th. Has anyone heard if Anthem's engine has been fixed yet? We haven't received notice of any port changes so I'm being hopeful.
  6. Husband and I are going next August for SB Alaska & Hubbard Glacier cruise on Radiance of the Seas. End up in Vancouver on a Friday and plan on staying in Vancouver until Sunday. TA gave hotel option for Westin Bayshore for $1139 US for the 2 nights. Not really comfortable with that price just for 2 nights when we will be gone pretty much sightseeing out and about. -Any good hotels not quite that pricey but decent? -Is staying down the West End (where Westin Bayshore is) the best area to stay in? -Would any hotels let you keep your luggage with them the last day after checkout? Our flight doesn't leave until 10pm Sunday. -We are not really foodie's but more into sightseeing. Do not plan on car rental so what do you suggest for what to see/do for the 2 days? Just beginning my research so all ideas welcome and appreciated!
  7. Any word of when it is to be fixed? We leave Dec. 17th. No word so far of any itinerary changes.
  8. thanks everyone for the info! Thinking we are going to go for Radiance and add in a pre-cruise land tour. Is it better to do northbound or southbound?
  9. My husband and I are planning a cruise to Alaska next August. We are more interested in the itinerary than the ship. Which is better and why….. Brilliance round trip from Vancouver Quantum round trip from Seattle Ovation round trip from Seattle Radiance northbound Vancouver to Seward Radiance southbound Seward to Vancouver
  10. Going on B2B on Anthem in December. I know that parking at Cape Liberty is $30 a day. Is there anywhere else in the area to park that is cheaper?
  11. You would think! She’s actually booked 5 cabins for us. The other two are being done by another family member.
  12. Thanks all for the responses. I just can’t catch a break with TA’s. This is our third one. Can’t seem to find one that knows the cruising business well. I will look online myself and call her if I happen to find an equal cabin myself. Maybe if I do the actual footwork she will complete the process!
  13. Booked 3 cabins on Anthem for this upcoming December and we chose balcony guarantee because it was a few hundred less than choose your own cabin. We have been assigned cabins already and while we are generally ok with where we are, one couple would prefer to not be so far forward. So I emailed our TA and asked can she see if there are any cabins open in our same category to move to and this is the response I got from her..... But, unfortunately, Royal does not allow change requests for them. This is the reason for their low price. You must accept their allocation. I'm sorry about that. Not a big deal, as we knew when we chose guarantee what could happen. It's more the question of is she correct or just doesn't want to be bothered?
  14. thanks all for the responses. Think we are just going to take the birth certificates and roll the dice on no freak emergency that they would need to fly.
  15. Yes, they both have birth certificates with the raised seal
  16. Taking my parents (in their 70's) on a cruise. They want to save money and only get the passport card not book. We are going on Anthem 7 day out of Cape Liberty to Orlando, CocoCay, and Nassau. I have researched and found that it seems to be okay, just means they could not fly back should they encounter some emergency. Any other reasons I should be aware of to justify the added expense or should I let them get the card?
  17. Would it be better to go thru your trip insurance instead of the cruise line?
  18. thanks for all of the responses. Think I will contact special needs and see what they say. Not sure if I have time as we leave Sunday. If I can't get an answer, think I will pack a heat pad with automatic shut off that if they confiscate it, Oh well. I will also pack ThermaCare wraps too as a back up. Thanks again for the replies!
  19. so basically it looks like it is prohibited but people do it anyway. I'm not that brave, too much of a rule follower. Think I will pack some ThermaCare heat wraps and see if they work good enough.
  20. Did a search to see if heating pads are allowed. I did see on RC website it is listed as not allowed but during my search here I found this. Can anyone tell me what the rule is? Maybe if I contact medical ahead of time it is allowed? Live Voyager of the Seas Baltic Cruise (by way of a short stay in London & Copenhagen) May 22-29th CatLadyFemme replied to CatLadyFemme's topic in Royal Caribbean International ...enjoying my heating pad courtesy of the extension cord (my reading lamp is working now too!), and headed to the Solarium. I had see a few folks in pool earlier, so even though it was 55 degrees (13 Celsius), I put on my suit and hopped in. It was nicely warmed, and I felt happy giving the poor life...
  21. Oh, that would be great! Thought I would still have to have the card swiped. Plastic sleeve it is then. Thanks all!
  22. yes, using a plastic sleeve would be an alternative but figured it would be a pain in the butt everytime I have to use it to have to fish it out of the sleeve. No sleeve is much quicker. But its not a big deal if I have to use a sleeve I will. Do like the idea of using the flashlight to find out a safe place to punch. Thanks all for the great ideas! Much appreciated.
  23. Hello, my family and I are going on Oasis Oct. 16. Has Oasis started using the RFID cards? I used to bring a hole punch and put my card on a lanyard. Now I'm hearing some ships have RFID cards and you cannot do this. Even if it is an RFID card, doesn't the strip just run down part of the card that I could still use a hole punch?
  24. Ok, thanks for letting me know. I did finally find that also but wasn't sure if the store on Oasis is a licensed Starbucks or not.
