  1. Hi,

I am looking for suggestions where to buy some locally produced tequila or rum and some trinkets for gifts. In the past I have had some success buying the liquor at grocery or liquor stores. Locally produced trinkets would be great as it helps with the local economy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Hi,

after taking a tour we would like to purchase some locally produced rum and some locally made trinkets for gifts. The tour operator tells us we will be at bananarama and of course the port, Mahogany Bay if weather permits. Suggestions of a grocery store to purchase the rum or some other store would be great.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

  3. This is how I feel. I will not be taking malaria meds (or giving them to my 4 year old) for a port stop where we will just be in town, on buses, in taxis, on boats, on the beach, and in the ocean; for a grand total of 8 daytime hours (at most). I will be using lots of insect repellent, of course.

I would definitely take the meds if I was going into wilderness areas, or if we were staying into the evening.

    Thanks all for the advice.

  4. We are staying at Seabrook in January and the hotel said the Clear Lake Taxi will cost $48 to their hotel from Hobby. Where are you staying?

You could also try Uber, but I heard that there have been some issues with using them to go to the terminal.

Looks like the same place. I will call Clear Lake Taxi then and see what they offer. Thanks for the help.

  5. I just read the CDC website about Roatan and Honduras. They recommend prophylactic use of anti-malaria drug. A couple mentioned the most commonly used Chloroquine. Anyone have experience with this drug, side effects etc. More importantly, anyone experienced a case of Malaria from Roatan?

Thanks for your input as trying to decide whether to take this medication.

  6. Hi, my wife and I did BOSS in St. Thomas and it was a blast! The pro's are that they are like an underwater motorcycle only much slower and considerably less maneuverable. You only descend some 7 to 10 feet deep and the BOSS masters take you on a guided tour. Both hands are on a yoke with an accelerator button, there are no brakes. Your head is encased in a big plastic bubble with windows or portholes to look out of. They are indestructible as I learned when I accidentally bashed into my wife's BOSS. I didn't have any problem "clearing" my ears during the tour as the depth is pretty mild.

Lastly, you don't have to paddle, the BOSS has it's own propulsion system. A plus for those with disabilities.

I can't speak to snuba as I have only scuba dived. With scuba you have much more freedom, flexibility, ability to take pictures, ascend, descend etc. But, it is your legs propelling you through the water so, it is work. Clearing your ears can be an issue for some due to the deeper ability to dive. Between the two I prefer scuba and it appears that snuba is closely related but, with a tether/air hose and compressor top side.

  7. Visited Maya Key in 2009 when it was Fins & Feathers and being 1st time snorkelers, we loved it. We are taking our teenage sons back to Roatan this Thanksgiving and are wondering if it still is same simple place to just walk out into water or if things have changed?

Have also heard great things about Tabyana. Suggestions, reviews, good for teenagers?? We are simple so just want to get in water and search around :)

    Thank you!

Also, interested in Tabyana thanks for the information.

  8. We had to fly into Bush on a Saturday, a day early for our cruise and will be staying in Kemah . . . so we can't take the Princess transfer and the taxis seem so expensive. But we have as much of a dilemma on the return, our flight is not until 5:30 pm, so we didn't want to take a Princess transfer to the airport and sit for 7 hours. We were going to rent a car, but Enterprise is closed on Sundays. We looked at the excursions at Houston but they just seem like you are riding around on a bus with a few 15-20 stops and not all that exciting and you still get to the airport at 1pm . . . any suggestions for those of you who have done this trip or know Houston well?

Like space things? How about NASA excursion 3 to 4 hours and includes transfer to your aiport of choice.

  9. I think they are the only ones who include free shuttle to the port.

We really liked the BW and plan to stay there next April again. The only drawback is that although they have an excellent complimentary breakfast in the breakfast room part of the lobby, they do not have a restaurant or cafe for dinner and none are nearby. No bars either.

They do have vending machine food and a microwave in the room to heat the tv dinners and Hot Pockets.

There is also is a Subway sandwich shop close by but no restaurants.

The other amenities and the room was worth that inconvenience for us.

You could take a taxi to Kemah Boardwalk or restaurants in the area.

I spoke with BW and they said they have a free shuttle to the restaurants and shopping.

    Seems like a good deal.
