Does anyone know if you used a travel agent, must they be the one to request the refund or may I fill out the refund request on Celebrity's site? Thank you!

You don't have to go through your travel agent.   Do it on line.   You will need your booking number.  Good luck.

I'm going to ask that we give Celebrity (and all the cruise lines) a little bit of a break from being so critical here on Cruise Critic.  This is an unprecedented situation that is changing faster than anything I've seen in my lifetime (and I'm on the older end of the spectrum :-)).  The cruise line employees (stateside and shipboard) have been working endless hours to make decisions, revise them, make new decisions to protect passengers and crew.  They are in a no win situation.  People are upset if the don't sail; people are upset if they do.  Phone lines and websites are inundated.  It's easy for us to sit here at our computers, likely at home, and be critical.  But that's doesn't do anyone any good right now.  These are unusually challenging times for all.  The last thing we need is second guessing and negative comments about Celebrity.  While I am certain that frustrations on many fronts are high, keep in mind how stressful the situations are for those that work for the cruise lines, the ports, hotels, airlines, etc.  There are so many things at stake.  Let's all be a little more cautious in what we say here on Cruise Critic.  We all want to get through this together.

Thank you Anne.   Very well stated.   As you noted it is a trying time for all.

Good question, and something we have been fine tuning.  Some cruises had a day or two between arrival and embarkation to the next ship.  We like to pick up a rental car which either requires taking the shuttle from the Miami cruise port to the rental car structure at MIA, or taking a taxi from Port Everglades to the rental car structure at FLL.  So a 9:00am pick up and off to either do laundry, shop for needed things, lunch at a favorite restaurant...,  If we need to get to the next cruise we drop off luggage at the new ship around 1:00pm -- 2:00pm and then head back to the airport; if we have a hotel we head that direction and check in.

We've found that rental car companies are now charging about the same for a mid-size SUV compared to a mid-size car.  We use Dollar/Thrifty and Budget for the most part.  We usually book through Southwest Airlines online site and pick up a few extra miles.  We paid as little as $38 for a one day rental, to $128 for a two day rental, picking up at MIA and dropping off at FLL.  Sometimes we had to pay a two day rental + 3 extra hours because of the timing of getting off the ship early and boarding in the afternoon.

We don't use car services or shuttles anymore because we get so much more control having our own car.  Like I mentioned in my review, we walked off Celebrity Edge and walked 100 yards south to board the Nieuw Statendam.  We were one of the last off the Edge and one of the first to board the Nieuw Statendam .  We try to make this transition as much fun as possible.

    Enjoy!

    Kel

    Thanks for your prompt response.

Will keep this "filed" away in our heads for future reference.

  4. Thanks for the well thought out reviews of various lines and ships.

Could you be so kind as to explain the logistics of getting from ship to ship.   I assume that they all departed from  Florida, although some may have been FLL and others MIA.   Did you have to spend any time in a hotel awaiting arrival of one of the ships?   Any insight as to how you executed this wonderful plan would be appreciated.

    Like your retirement plan.     :-)

    Happy travels on the seas.

It depends on the wishes of the charter company, I presume. This will be our 4th cruise with this company (Star Vista) and In the past Michaels was maintained as a suite lounge, though some  of the performers also hang out in there (and not sure they are all in suites). Hope it will be next year as well!

    Thanks for your prompt response.

Hope next year's charter works out the way you want as well.

I would think that the expiration would be the end of the cruise, but just guessing. It appears that the $29 package would be the Classic drinks and liquors and the $59 one for the Premium package drinks. It isn't clear if they work in the restaurants and for specialty coffees,  but I can't see why not, if it meets the limit for each package. Hopefully more info will come out as people try it.

We have Premium packages for all of our cruises except for a charter. We are in a suite on that one so will have Michael's Club drinks, but if this is offered, we may do this for drinks around the ship, instead of buying a full beverage package.

When you get back from your charter perhaps you may be able to confirm this one way or another.  We were told on charters that even though you are in a suite that Michael's Club/Retreat Lounge will not operate as it does when it is a Celebrity sailing. We were told that this venue will be open to all guests.

    Please keep us posted.  Thanks.

As noted in my op, the price onboard for getting my hairs cut is about the same as I can get here in Portland (I too paid $13 in Houston when we lived there) but the beard trim is about 4 times more than the $10 additional they charge here for the beard. I’m just trying to figure out why-I was hoping to have someone tell me that

I want to get it onboard as we have 10 sea days and once we get to Asia we won’t be coming back for about a month.  So even I get one tomorrow, I will either need one onboard or in Japan where I don’t speak the language. The ship would be easier-and I have OBC.

I do trim my beard myself but I don’t want to take up valuable luggage space with the trimmer, hence my question.

When my hubby had his beard trim it was all part of a shave/beard trim.  He said it was wonderful and worth the price.  Very relaxing.  Perhaps the information you obtained is for a service similar to this and NOT just a beard trim, hence the hefty price tag.

To all the other posters who will state my words, "it was worth the price" please don't shoot the messenger.   Everyone has a different idea of what an OBC is "worth".   Thanks.      :-)

  8. Enjoy your Labour Day weekend and don't worry about your cabin assignment.   It will happen.  Think positively.....perhaps you won't even find out until you check-in and just think of the surprise if you were upgraded to a category better than what you booked.   Move-up offers are offering everything from CC, FV, AQ and suites.   So rest assured you will end up with the minimum being what you booked and the possibility of a higher category.

Please come back and let us know what you are assigned.

    Enjoy your Summit cruise.

  9. To the original poster:   As others have suggested you may see exactly where the Retreat Sun Deck is by viewing the deck 12 plans.   Yes the Retreat Sun Deck is for suite guests only.   Very, very limited shade.  As well, unless you have a drinks package beverages there are extra; including water.   Recently some folks were shocked to find this out when they were presented with a bill to pay for their beverages and water.   Just a "heads up".

  10. Is it possible to explain why a Suite Guest may have drinks of choice in the Retreat Lounge but if one chooses to relax on the Retreat Sun Deck and have lunch there drinks are not complimentary unless one has a drink package.     Does that mean that one can remove a drink from the Retreat Lounge and proceed to the Retreat Sun Deck, order lunch and drink with the complimentary drink from the Retreat Lounge?

Any insight you can provide would help to make our decision as to whether or no to continue with suite bookings for the future.

    Thank you.

  11. If anyone is presently on Reflection or just recently disembarked could you kindly advise who the Senior Officers are from the "Spotlight".   In particular I am looking for Captain, Staff Captain, Hotel Director, Guest Relations Manager and Captain's Club Host or Hostess.   Interested in knowing personnel who will be on the July 20 and August 1 cruises.  Thank you very much.

He is, Arno’s spreadsheet is out of date for Edge.  An updated list can be found at post 46 here:

Thanks for those directing me to other posts for information.   Jenn was kind enough to report back while she was on the ship.   However there has been some changeover apparently....for instance the Captain who was on board signed off yesterday.

So I am asking anyone who is presently on board if you could kindly provide the "In the Spotlight" information of Senior Officers.

As always thanks in advance for providing this info.

Yes very  nice that Celebrity recognized all Zeniths.

There are 9 Zeniths on this cruise.

i don’t think I am the TOP cruiser.

Congratulations.  What ship are you on?  If they recognized all 9 Zeniths with a floral bouquet and wine this is a very nice gesture.   Perhaps it is something that this particular Captain's Club Hostess chose to do.

    Enjoy your flowers and wine.

  14. Are you willing to share your negative thoughts/feedback?   What was it that you did not like about the IV room?   We all understand it is your personal opinion but perhaps it will assist others in making a decision.  Providing the actual stateroom number would also be great.

Should you chose to provide this information I thank you.

Hopefully you still were able to enjoy other aspects of the ship.    :-)

We have enjoyed this benefit since we became Zenith when the program began. It was amazing to me that the MCC on the Reflection was unaware of this.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I wish that all Captain's Club benefits from Select to Elite would be available in printed form for all to see.  That way all staff/crew who may not be aware of benefits such as this could see it in "black and white".

This is exactly the problem! On the Reflection I was told that Zenith were not entitled to complimentary luggage valet. Guest Relations also told me this. It required a call to Miami from the CC Hostess to resolve. I believe that it is the responsibility of Andrea Shea to inform staff of Zenith benefits to avoid uncomfortable situations.

Are you saying the Zenith members have complimentary luggage valet?

Last night was the Chic night on Solstice.i was rejected to sit on the upper deck for suites guests, made me really feel like an IDIOT after showing my status.

She told me this section is for suite guests only.

The "upper deck" for suite guests only.  Did you mean the Retreat Sun Deck?  Yes that is for suite guests only.   However if you mean the theatre where Zenith members were allowed to sit on chic nights this is something new.  Perhaps you can clarify exactly where you were seated.

Just last week I saw Zenith members being escorted on chic night to the reserved seating area for the production number.  Would find it strange for this to have changed in one week.
