  1. I don't think so, Christine. The non-connecting cabins on the Solstice have the same vestibule, only without the outer doors. Exactly the same amount of space. And the Reflection is three feet wider than her sisters. I'd like to know how the extra width is distributed. Are cabins a foot wider or is the extra width in the corridors. Or are the balconies a foot deeper?

All the cabins have a vestibule on the Solstice? We didn't have one on the Equinox.

  2. I wonder if it was a cost cutting decision. The way they implemented the doors on Reflection would probably be cheaper. There would be no need to have two pairs of heavy, decorative doors with electronic key locks and self-closing mechanisms with the new configuration. I thought the method used on the first four ships was clever and unique, and seemed to serve the needs of connecting rooms quite well. So there must have been a compelling reason to go with the traditional method.

Do you think it may have been a space issue? Those banks of connecting cabins had to be 3-4 ft deeper than regular cabins to allow for the vestibule.

  3. Two important reasons the T-pools should not be "free": crowd control and profits.

I don't want the T-pool to be so full of people that there's no room to move around. Decrease the cost and HAL will increase utilization. And I certainly do want the cruiseline to show a profit. Since the word is that HAL does not make a profit on the cruise fare, but relies on on-board spending for that, then keep a reasonable charge for the T-pool.

The T-Pool area on the M Class is wonderful and I have never seen it crowded http://www.beyondships.com/Celebrity-Millennium-Tour-2.html

  4. We have had a Mobal phone for 3 years and use it the same way Lew does. We spent 2 weeks traveling around China and always had a good signal. In Canada we don't have Verizon or AT&T so the only other option was to buy an unblocked phone and then buy sim cards for the countries we are visiting. We use our iPads for email and Skype but when you have an elderly parent back home you want to be reachable immediately in a crisis. Just out of curiosity, if you have an iPhone with an International Plan, can you leave your phone on for incoming calls? I was concerned about roaming charges (Mobal has none)

  5. I'm sure what everyone is saying is...look up your flights and check out all the prices, including refundable tickets with the fine print! I would love to see what Choice Air has to offer, but my flights are not available for next May. United gave me the price of 1200 pp. Reno/San Fran/Zurich and Rome/San Fran/Reno. I decided to take it, as the week before it was 3,400! I am anxiously awaiting Choice Air's price. If I could get refundable tickets, I would be in Heaven. Since I have my father's health to consider, I always purchase a plan from Travel Guard. Don't like doing it that way, but really don't have a choice!

Reno isn't a gateway for Choice Air you would have to use SFO to do your search:)

We get it! You don't like Celebrity. I do:D I would never use the promenade, go to afternoon tea, (early seating - too close to dinner), don't sit around the pool (go to the Lawn Club), we use the casino but not when it is a smoking den, warm and cozy on HAL relates to me as dark and cramped not open and airy. Really glad we have options for ships that we like.
My BIL sails exclusively on HAL and Cunard and he has warned us away from both lines as he knows what we like. He is looking elsewhere now as he started with HAL because he was a smoker. Since he quit there are a lot more options open to him now. To each his own.
  7. Hi Gonzo

I am not trying to do a blanket defense of Choice Air and I totally agree that people have to be fully aware of the Pro's and Con's. But I think there are some distorted assumptions and a lot of people dismiss Choice Air out of hand ie:(I would never book air through a cruise line!) All I was attempting to do was balance experiences of posters. I also believe there are just as many horror stories from people who have booked their own air and got themselves in trouble. I thank you and all the other posters who have educated me on flight rules and I will be checking them closely from now on. I was trying hard not to come across as combative and I apologize if that is how I seemed:o and I do appreciate all the help everyone provides on this board.

    Christine

  8. No, the poster clarified later in the thread that she had used Choice Air.

The OP states the following: "Yes I am in fact here, reading your 'condolences', advice and even the criticisms. My Mom has been on 15 cruises in her lifetime and has NEVER missed the ship. Im sorry to hear that some people think its our own fault. I assumed that RCs choice air would know what they were doing.... my bad."

If RC picked the flights it was packaged air - not Choice Air where you pick the Airline, dates, flight times. "-The airline they booked us with (Continental)[/b]" Still not a good outcome for people who opt for the "convenience" of having the cruise lines assign the flights. I noticed under "specials" on the X website that they have a promotion for suites/business class and upon closer reading it seems there are only specific flights available which you must choose from. Looks like they are not separating their different "programs" and putting what I refer to as Choice Air and the packaged deals all under the umbrella of "Choice Air" I definitely agree with everyone that people should be cautioned about opting for packaged air where you don't know your flights/connections until after final and which in most cases, gets you to the port on the day of embarkation. Not a good plan:eek:

  9. What Choice Air states: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=30733166&postcount=100

Packaged Air(Cruise Air) is still available and separate from Choice Air which seems to be what the poster in the last example used as they paid for their air with final payment: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=29885800&postcount=24

    A good outcome! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=30664493&postcount=59
