  1. KKN- I really like the prints for a cruise. The navy one feels a little nautical to me, and the other one is nice and bright if you are on a Caribbean cruise.

Thank you all for the feedback on the red dress. I really like the fit. I think until this dress I maybe had 1 red sweater in my closet so I'm trying to get over my fear of the color.

I had bought another dress off ebay that was delivered today for some reason, not sure why on a Sunday but anyway I love it. The necklace part is adjustable so that helps with the fit up top.

  2. Just picked up this beauty in black...then found it at JCPenney in 2 prints & navy...we shall see when they come.

I am NOT a dress person, BUT this is SUPER comfy & SUPER flattering. Dress it up or down, and will pack beautifully.

Pretty dress KKB. That does look like it will pack nice.

I found the dress yesterday at Nordstrom Rack for $23. I would love to hear what you ladies think of it. I really love the way it fits, and since it's a petite size it doesn't need alterations. Red is a little outside of my comfort zone though but I'm try to branch out beyond neutrals, and I did think the shade was flattering.

  3. Thank you Belle.:)

Right now, I'm trying to fit in what exercise I can around work and school. Mostly walking with a little bit of resistance training.

Down 1.2# this week. Still 6.2 lbs from where I would like to be by mid-September assuming I go to my class reunion, or 11.2 from my ultimate goal that I'm hoping to make by the time of my cruise in mid-December.

  4. I've read quite a few threads that include discussion of the official dress code on formal night. Since this is my first time on Princess, and only my 2nd cruise ever I still have a couple of questions that I'm hoping some of the more experienced cruisers can answer. My cruise will be in mid-December on the Royal Princess if that matters.

    1. I'm debating between shorter cocktail dresses and long formal dresses, or possibly one of each. What percentage of women in your experience are typically in long gowns? If it's only 5-10%, I would likely stick with the cocktail dresses.
    2. Are both formal nights the same level of formality, or is one more formal than the other due to something like a Captain's dinner?

    Thank you.

  5. I'm sorry that you don't understand my thinking but that is how I feel. I don't want to feel like the third wheel and that is how I personally would feel sitting at a table of families or even couples. As I said before my first solo cruise on Carnival turned out great at the "singles" table as I had a lot in common with my fellow single cruisers and we wound up hanging out together after dinner. I guess I lucked out and I'm sorry that some of you didn't. It was such a good experience that I went on my 2nd solo cruise 5 months later.

I can understand not wanting to feel like a third wheel for sure. That was where my concern was coming from around potentially being seated with one large group instead of maybe a few smaller groups, couples, or friends. I'm not opposed to sitting with a few other solos but it's more the idea of being labeled as "single" that I wanted to stay away from.

  6. Hi Lady Patriot! Welcome to the group. Living in Italy sounds lovely but I'm lots of temptation there for sure. You will find lots of support here. We are all trying to work on our goals a bit each week. I think it helps to check in, even on the weeks I gain..as much as maybe I might not want to admit that.

Welcome back pacruise! That sounds like a fun weekend, and congratulations on graduating from your running class. Completing the 5K is going to feel great I'm sure. I'm sure you will do great!!

  7. This thread is really making me think maybe I should switch from traditional to anytime dining for my 1st solo cruise on Princess in December. I had originally selected traditional late dining with a larger table of 8 but based on some of the past experiences of others I'm not sure I would like it if I end up with a large family.

  8. I was looking at E407 or E411 based on Renmar's site from an earlier thread so I know both of those have no real obstructions unless you look down. The other options with a larger balcony would be E429 or E433 for $10 more than my current cabin. Is the loveseat in the deluxe balcony comfortable to sit on, or would I be better to look at one of the standard balcony cabins with the larger balconies?

  9. Hello-

I am currently booked in a regular balcony on the Riviera deck but it's pretty far aft and near the elevators - R706. I could get a deluxe balcony that doesn't look to really have any obstruction on the emerald deck for around $100 more. I'm specifically looking at cabins E411 or E407. This will be for a 7 night Eastern Caribbean sailing out of Port Everglades. Thoughts on these cabins as opposed to the one I have now? I would like the slightly bigger balcony and the little loveseat I think.

  10. Hello Everyone!

I didn't do as well as you three. Up a pound. Hope it's water weight.

    Will see.

Katmu at least you had a loss. What classes are you taking? Sorry had

    to work on the 4th.

Jan sorry for a stressful week. I forgot what your job is. Your gain was

so small. Hoping you have swoosh soon.

Diana glad you had fun on your wine trip. Hope your loss will stick.

Don't know why it's so hard to lose weight but it is! (n)

Diana- a wine trip sounds like fun. Good job with the weight loss this week.

Jan- I can relate to the stressful week. On top of the people that were scheduled to be on vacation this week, we had another person who lost her dad on Wednesday and two other people who are sick with the same bug several others had last week. I'm hoping your week improves.

Belle- I'm sure it's water weight. We all have those weeks unfortunately.

My class is a liberal arts capstone class as I'm finally finishing my bachelors. Everyone at the university has to take this course, although they offer several variations of it including some that are held abroad. My version has an environmental justice focus. It's averaging around 400 pages of reading a week plus it's writing intensive so on top of work I don't have much free time right now.

  11. Sorry, you are right, not for everyone. Sounds exhausting.

You'll really find it odd that I read another book by the same author after this one. I enjoy those sort of books though. I'm going to bring a Brene Brown book on my next cruise, not quite as deep of a topic.

For those interested in more traditional reads, I thought this article in Travel and Leisure had some interesting recommendations on books to read on vacation by destination, including some for Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean, Italy, and Spain: https://www.travelandleisure.com/culture-design/books/best-vacation-books

  12. I haven't been to St. Maarten yet as my cruise is in December but these are the 2 options I've been looking at that might be along the lines of what you are looking for also. Caribbean Paddling rents kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkel gear and does have a shuttle service for cruise passengers. I emailed them and they said it would take about 15-20 minutes to kayak over to Pinel Island. You could either do a picnic lunch or there are 2 beach restaurants that have both re-opened on Pinel.

The other option I'm considering is Seagrape Tours Hiking and Snorkeling Tour. They have a max of 6 people per tour.

Links for both websites are below. The reviews for both on Tripadvisor seem pretty good.

  13. I am back to being unattached so I’m going to be canceling the cruise we were originally going to do at the beginning of December on Oasis.

I put down a deposit on another cruise on Royal Princess for mid- December for just me. Princess is a little more my style I think so that’s why I switched. I have an extra week of PTO from running the big project earlier this year that I need to use by 12/31 so that’s why I’m sticking with December.

  14. Having a very tough week, not so much weight/ food wise although I'm not expecting this week to be great as I'm swamped with both work as school but there is some personal stuff going on that has me really down. I'm not sure if it's something I should be posting here but it may affect my cruise in December.

Sorry you are having a tough week too Belle.

    Welcome Etta!
