  1. Same here. I also got the cruise for an amazing price, I booked over 9 months ago. My bid barely moved the arrow, very low. If I get upgraded it would be a great anniversary surprise for my DH, if not I am content were I am. GL

That is why i put in for the upgrade also....Saturday is my 15 yr wedding anniversary and we are travelling with our children....thought the privacy might be appreciated by my dh  ....see if we get "lucky" hahahaha

  2. I also did for my sailing. Did you check to see how many are still available? I went back and checked and all Aft and Forward Haven cabins are sold out. So I also bid on a H5.

Pretty much everything is sold out/not available but they did just email me again yesterday saying...lets get you upgraded so who knows. I dont really care either way...my bid was on the very low end. I got the cruise for an awesome price so Im happy either way and not willing to pay anymore then the "poor" bid. Whatever is meant to be will be. I currently have a balcony cabin with the bumped balcony.

  3. Im thinking about trying for an upgrade to a Haven Forward Facing Penthouse with balcony (H7). I would like some feedback on this room :-) Is the balcony any bigger than a standard balcony room? Also, travelling with an 11 & 13 yr old. Are we able to use the haven pool with them or is this adults only? Thank you for any insight/thoughts you may share with me in making this decision.

  4. I currently have a balcony room with the little bump out balcony. I feel i got a really great price on my package. The cheapest upgrade would be to a mini suite stateroom for $25 pp or the next

The Haven Forward-Facing Penthouse with Balcony H7 for $400 pp....im not sure either of those are really worth the upgrade especially the the mini suite stateroom...doesnt seem to be giving me any more than I already have.

  5. It is not just your bid amount but also your current cabin and what they believe it could be re-marketed for. Frankly, I believe it is why we see so many blow out sailaway rates close to sailing on interior and oceanview.

That is definitely my plan but leaving my oldest daughter in charge of my furry kids so just need to know they are ok and if she has any issues at home  the rest of the world will wait till i get home!!

  7. I have sailed out of the NYC area several times in the winter (QM2 and RCCL). Our experience is that day one off the coast of the Carolinas it is usually around 55 or so for the high. Coming from the north were it is colder, it starts to feel enjoyable, sweat shirt to supplement the optimistic shorts. However, on the way back, it feels like winter after coming back from the 80 degree temps! Everyone seems to overdress for the cold - lol.

    thank you!!!

  8. OP, we are on the BA earlier than you ;p - November is cool & Fall-like weather in NYC ... "cold" is a relative term but nothing a 3 season jacket/parka with zip-out fleece liner/vest can't handle onboard for Day 2 and Day 7, as that morning & afternoon were generally "chiller".

You check Accuweather or Weather Channel or WeatherUnderground for the latest, and pack your wardrobe accordingly. Between sailing down the Hudson & the morning of Day 2, ship is already down off the MD/VA coast heading toward the Carolinas ... crossing the weatherfronts & hitting warmer climate, most of the ship pax will be on deck sunbathing (mother nature cooperating, nobody can predict now) ... short sleeves, shorts & flip-flops/sandals, some on their balconies while others lined up for the pool deck's BBQ.

If it is "chilly" still - a hoodies or windbreaker will generally suffice, you don't need a down coat or thermals ;p  - odds are that you will join others baking under the warm sun. PC is generally in the 70's and 80's (that was true in mid-February when we're on the Jewel a few years ago)

Awesome!! kinda what i thought. I have a 13 & 11 yr old going on this cruise so they are asking how soon they can swim but you know kids...lol they will be in with blue lips lol

  9. We will be leaving in cold weather ...how long before we start getting some warmer weather. when we leave sunday it will be cold...monday is a sea day and I wonder if the ship will be far enough away for the kids to use there bathing suits and then n the way back Friday and Saturday are see days and I am hoping at least Friday will be a warmer day. Any thoughts from those who have done this cruise during that time of year?

  10. I was wondering what everyone does with their cell phones. I need to be able to text primarily to my daughter who will be at home to check in. I have Sprint.....I know in years past on a cruise my provider added something to the phone so we could get text/calls. wondering whats the best way to go in todays world. thank you for any helpful info.

  11. Guests 1 & 2 have the UBP. The service charge for that is $99.54 each. Guests 3 & 4 were free other than port fees and taxes.

The DSC in your case is either $13.50 or $13.99 per person per day. $378 would have been the older/lower rate (for 4 people over age 3). It is currently $13.99 pppd for non-suites (NCL Sky is different)

Look at your current MyNCL for the current pre-pay DSC price.

You can tip more or nothing extra at all.

thank you so very much for breaking it down for me. The DSC 378.00 is what is showing when I log into my NCL account and is giving me the option to pay it in advance which i may do to get it out of the way. My main concern is that i didnt have any surprises when i get my bill at the end of the vacation.

I believe the choice promotion charge is for whichever promo you chose, as in, the beverage package, etc.

The service charge is for the staff, as in, your room steward, bar staff, wait staff, etc.

I did take the drink package promotion and 2nd and 3rd person free... so the 199 must be for that.

If I prepay the service charge than that covers my tipping for the week then? thanks for your reply

  13. I havent been on a cruise in over 5 yrs so things have changed quite a bit regarding tipping.

On my bill it says I paid $199.08 "choice promotion service charge".... I can also pre-pay the service charge of $378.00 ahead of time I am assuming that covers the daily charges..

I am not sure what is covering what and how much more I may be charged once I am on board... I have read NCL site and googled but my brain is not connecting to the info I am seeking out...LOL....any help would be greatly appreciated in clarifying this. I am a party of 4...

  14. Im new here and I hope this is a valid question. Is the prepaid service charge covering the tips of all who are taking care of my family for the week? Do I have the right to tip on my own or am I going to pay that service charge regardless? thanks for any insight....
