  1. I thought that they keep half the buffet open on Divina? I wonder if the selection is better than what offer on deck 16 on Seaside? I had a brief exchange with Captain Scala about this on Instagram (he only responded once) and I get the feeling that they don't see it as a problem. Food is food I guess. It's going to be a challenge convincing them otherwise. Or else we just vote with our wallets. And warn others here and elsewhere.

I think the dirt cheap prices for a brand new ship says a lot!

  2. I agree with you on this. Deck 8 is supposed to be the focal point of the ship, the wraparound promenade. And then they go and close half of it after 4pm? I don't see why they couldn't use half the buffet for MDR overflow and leave have as a regular buffet for dinner. Not to mention that their website says they have a great buffet open 20 hours a day and only claim that Biscayne Bay is for families.

We'll be onboard in 2 weeks and I am hoping for the best. We aren't dinner buffet people, although I have been known to pick up a snack after dinner. I DO intend to have a word (or several) with ship management about this, assuming they show up at the CC or Black Card event.

I told the captain at the Black card event on the Divina about the food, and he seemed surprise. However the HD had a whatever attitude. Guess he was used to this kind of complain. I told them if you want to succeed in the North American market you guys will have to step up your game. Food wise AND crew wise! My friends who were with me said never again MSC.

  3. when we went on the vista we tried all the specialty restaurants. we always go to the steakhouse so that was no surprise it was good. but the one that surprised us the most was JiJi's it was really good. and don't forget you can go to JIJI's and cucina del capitano are open for lunch and are free for lunch. definitely not the same menu but a good alternative for lunch on the ship.

On my last Carnival cruise I went once to 555, Bonsai and Cucina and 4 times to Jiji's. It was $12 four years ago.

  4. I got it at an excellent price(1A porthole), so I thought why not try Carnival again after a 4.5 year hiatus with this cruise line. I loved the Breeze, so, I guess will like this one too. This will be her last cruise before repositioning to Galveston. Of course I will go to the Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi and Jiji's. All 3 are excellent value for your money in my humble opinion.

  5. Food is better on Princess.

Shows and activities are way better on Royal.

    Staff depends on the sailing.

    MUCH older crowd on Princess.

Food used to be better on Princess, but not any longer. Buffet on both Anthem & Allure were far superior from what I got earlier this month on the Royal Princess!

Even the (buffet) food on Norwegian Escape (Sept) and Norwegian Breakaway (Oct) were much better that Royal Princess..

  6. We just got off Regal too. In my own opinion (in comparing only this cruise to my other 8 Regal cruises over the past years, since Regal join the fleet). We felt that the food was no way as good as it was before in the main dinning room and the buffet. I have NEVER complained before about the food on Regal. This is just my opinion for my 9th cruise on her.

I just wrote a short a review about the Royal Princess yesterday, and yes food was much better, and more choices in the past!

  7. Thanks for the report. Other than fewer choices, what did you find lacking about the buffet?

We were on the Regal in September 2016 and on the Royal January 2017, and they seemed identical.

TASTE. Some of the offerings were simple tasteless..or very salty. I tried the pork chops and no taste at all. The roasted potatoes were every single day very salty, and I like salty food. One day the noodle had no taste/salt at all, and the very next day I couldn't eat because it was way too salty. So, basically there was no consistency at the buffet. I also wrote about the pastry shop. I can remember seeing a lot of desserts being left on the table, with maybe 2-3 bites out of them. Some of them were simply dry and little taste as well. When I booked this cruise I was excited for the food..and dessert, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The good thing is I gained less pounds (lol)

  8. Just came back last Sunday from the Royal Princess. Got the 2 cruises at an excellent price for a balcony(we had to change cabin though) Was too good to refuse!

First thing I noticed was how comfortable the beds are. However the cabins are a bit smaller than on other cruise lines. At least the category they assigned me (BB)

The first negative thing I noticed was how the buffet was a far cry from what it used to be (maybe it was the chef, but I wasn't the only one complaining) When I cruised twice on the Regal a couple of years ago, I can remember how good it was. Not this time! also less choices, and I must say the same for the pastry shop. On the other hand all other eating venues were excellent. Btw the best buffet service in all my cruises. In less than 2 minutes after sitting down, someone would show up at your table asking if you wanted anything to drink.

Activities were a bit lacking in my humble opinion, but when on a cruise I don't like to run from one activity to the other anyway, so i was fine with that. Very good movie selection and saw quite some movies. Something I never do on land.

I have also noticed an increase in sales pitch. Don't know because it was a cheap cruise that they were trying harder, but definitely much more sales pitch. And if not mistaken the most expensive spa I have seen. I talked to an employee who had a friend working in the spa, and she told me that her friend told her that they usually are not fully booked. I saw them still trying to sell spa services on the last day of the cruise around noon..

On the second leg I became Platinum and got 250 minutes of free internet. Was very happy with that, since it was a 10 days cruise. I also could use the lounge on deck 6, so as a newbie I was very curious what it was all about and how it compared with RC(Diamond Plus) I went in and and saw that there were only different kind of cheeses available, So it wasn't a deal breaker for me, so I left. I can get all those cheeses at International Cafe as well I thought and no need to buy any drinks. Later I learned that they would change the selection every day.

I know it might sound a bit negative, but I had a hell of a good time. Visited 2 islands that were on my list and loved both of them (Martinique & Grenada) but in different ways.

  9. I have also been on the Royal since Nov 25th, and I'm not impressed at all with the buffet food. I just ask one of the supervisors yesterday what happened to the food on Princess. He told me most probably it's the chef, because they always get their food from the same suppliers. Have been twice on Regal and loved the buffet, and when booking these 2 cruises I was so looking forward for the food. But so far not impressed at all. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad , but definitely not what it used to be. Even some of the pastries are like dry, like they have been made the day before.
