  1. Hi All,

I just got off a 7 day cruise on the Oasis of the seas. ON day 5 they called me to say I was a VIP and to come by the casino host for more information.

I did and this is what the deal is. I received:

*1 Casino Royale Polo shirt in the color of my choosing

    *4 free drink coupons

    * No 5% casino cash surcharge (free)

    *lifetime status of VIP

*Entry for a contest for a free cruise.

If I cruise RCI again I will have to let the casino host know on day one that I am a VIP. (not sure if that does anything for me on that cruise lol)

    Just wanted to share.

I play slots and 3 card poker but the pit bosses in 3 card weren't really monitoring so I guess I got this because of slots.

I play max on machines so $3 to $4 a pull for about an hour to to a day (after dinner)

Just sharing so you know the latest "perks"

  2. My kids and I are sailing Freedom in August 2015. I want to do carry-ons only, I think it would just make everything that much easier. Do-able? We are over formal nights so there will be no formal clothes to bother with. And I NEVER wear or use everything we bring. I have no problem paying for laundry service for a few items during the week. If anyone else does/has done this, input is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It's very doable. Just got back from the O of S on a 7 day. On day 3 they have the stuff the bag laundry special deal for $30.00 . we did it and had everything nicely laundered and back on day 4. You can do it. I do suggest probably having a back pack as well in addition to your carry on.

  3. I just got back from the Oasis yesterday. There are plenty of ways to spend your money, and the $10 sales are fun, but I would limit your shopping to just oasis of the seas or RC merchandise.

This is why. I purchased a watch for my husband on the ship on the day they had the 75% off watch sale. People were going crazy over these automatic watches it actually took an hour (went to starbucks to relax) to even squeeze in to see these watches on the promenade. The brand is invicta. I thought we got a good deal at $135 for an automatic SS underwater watch which the tag says was in the high $200s

    Wrong.

I just looked it up today and you can get the same one on amazon for $87.00.

They are counting on you not to be able to check because of the lack of internet.

Regardless, he loves the watch and it's a fun memory of our ship, but I had to share that with you.

The postcards were cheaper on the ship than in the port interestingly enough.

  4. I have never been able to figure out how those forward cabins work and I am not sure if they are even set up like the rest of the cabins. I know that on the Voyager and Freedom class ships the forward cabin layout is different from other cabins. The issue is that the wall opposite where the entrance door is located is slanted which would make it hard to put a bed against them. So I don't know if these are typical paired cabins or not.

However, all that said, if the cabins do conform to the standard setups then I would venture a guess that the bed is by the window in 9106.

EDIT: I just noticed that ALL of those forward cabins can accommodate more than 2 people. Throughout the ship all standard cabins that can hold more than 2 people have the bed by the closet. I give up. I have no idea how these cabins are set up.

Sorry for all the long post all to not even answer your question.

    HI Ocean Boy and All

I just wanted to update since I got back yesterday from our cruise. For Cabin 9106, the bed was by the closet. This is one of the forward rooms. Even though its on the "right" it is as you suspected and different. The room was huge with a floor to ceiling window on a 45 degree angle adding probably another 15 sq feet to the room. We loved it and the bed by the closet didn't bother us at all.

  5. I'm going to be a big pain with this...Thanks everyone for posting how to check. I'm assuming it's the same way for those very few oceanview (no balc) forward facing cabins? Can anyone confirm. All the pictures I've seen on CC have showed the bed by the closet, but I haven't seen my particular stateroom which is 9106. Using the method in this string, can I assume my bed will be by the picture window? If you look at it from the hall on the deckplan, this is the "right" side stateroom (9108 on the left)

  6. Honestly, I really don't.

Is that in the bible or something?

No, I'm not taking my stuff with me to the bar or the restaurant or sauna.

Yes, it's my chair for the day, as long as I'm going to use it more than 50% of the time I have stuff on it. (That's in the bible.) It's not my fault if the cruise line doesn't have enough chaise lounges for its passengers. And frankly I've never been in a situation where you couldn't find chairs somewhere not more than a few minutes walk from the pool. So as long as there are other chairs, why do I need to schlep my stuff around?

Yes, take your stuff to the bar, restaurant, and sauna! It's called a backpack? Don't go hang out at the bar and and have your spa treatments while saving your lounger for when you want to be back hours later

  7. I won $1440 on the Carnival Magic last year on the New Years cruise. It was some dollar machine with 7's on fire. What sucks is your in international water and still have to fill out the IRS form. It also took about a half hour to finalize the payout. Oh, well I would still do it again. :)

Why would you have to fill out the irs form in Intl waters??

  8. I have worn shorts on Celebrity since 1994, just not to dinner in the MDR or speciality. You will be fine.

I've heard that you can go in the mdr even on formal night and wear shorts and they won't say anything. I wish they woukd enforce it.

  9. Sat down at a three card poker table at the Taj in Atlantic city couple of months ago with $100. A few hands in and I got three of a kind. A few hands later I got 4 of a kind with the bonus up top. 20 minutes later and I got a straight flush. In between I was getting flushes straights trips you name it I couldn't do anything wrong about four hours later I got up with thousands and thousands of dollars that was a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the three card poker table.

Nice! would love to get that 4 of a kind with the bonus

  10. I hear you. It's hard to justify the $$ of a balcony sometimes. Oceanview with a window is also really lovely, and you can always go on deck if you want to be outside!

There is nothing wrong with inside cabins either, you don't feel the ship rock as much, especially on a lower floor.

I guess it depends on how much time you spend in the room. I would go for the oceanview :-)

  11. My boys always were in jackets and ties, and as young adults, still wear jackets and ties, when appropriate. I never gave them a choice because I never looked at it as a "choice". They never complained. It's all in the way it is presented.

Smart casual nights, they would wear khakis, dress pants and usually a button down shirt, and other nights, nice jeans, and nice polo shirt. Never t-shirts or shorts.

Your question implied "teenage dress code" as such it was different than an adult, when in practice, kids, teens and adults have the same dress code and expectation.

*LIKE* That is so nice to hear parents encouraging proper attire. :-)

  12. Hi all,

I think we should start a campaign for RCCL to set a cruise industry first by offering free wifi on all RCCL ships.

Wifi is quickly becoming apart of everyday life for so many people, for so many different reasons that it seems old fashioned to charge for wifi. It really would be WOW if RCCL offered free wifi.

    It's just an idea....

Maybe have wifi free in the library at least it wouldnt be on deck. A cruise vacation is a great way to unplug and tune out from society. I hate the idea of wifi being free and seeing people stare at their phones all day and not watch where they are walking. At least if there is a charge that would minimize that

  13. You must be confused with another ship. No coin laundry on Royal's Freedom of the Seas.

It was the Freedom in 2007, on our honeymoon cruise. Maybe they have stopped offering it since that was years ago but I can assure you it was there. Every other deck. The one negative was that people would leave their clothes in the dryer and bottleneck the facilities (which is probably why they discontinued it) That is the only 7 day I have been on with my husband so I would not forget that. We had a family promenade stateroom.

I know the Enchantment doesn't have it because I sailed the Enchantment right after the Freedom and had inquired about it and was told NO.

  14. There is no self laundry on RCL ships. On longer cruises they have deals [with C & A coupon] for a bag for a set price. Laundry services on the ship are very good--but, a little pricey.

We used coin operated Laundry on the Freedom of the seas. Was a nice convenience for our 7 day cruise! (and affordable) Every other deck had it.

We were on the enchantment and they did not have it.
