  1. Hi, saw a comment in another post and wanted to throw it out there for verification.

Going on HOS in a few weeks. Booked a jr. suite. I understand you can go to CK for dinner. Someone said that drinks are free in CK for dinner, regardless of your beverage package.

Is that true? DH and I aren't big drinkers and typically don't get a package but it would be nice to have a glass of wine at CK, especially if it's "free"

    Thank you,

  2. The sports pool was an adults only pool when we were on.

Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app

good to know! It's funny but today on RCCL's main page for Harmony, under pools, it says:

Whatever your mood, you’ve got four refreshing pools to choose from.

The Main Pool is always a blast of fun. At the sloping Beach Pool, you can chill in a chair and dip your feet in the water.

The Sports Pool has lanes for swimming laps, and the

    Solarium pool

is an adults-only space to unwind in tranquility.

No wonder I assumed there was a solarium pool, RCCL's own marketing folks have it on the website.:')

  3. Thanks for the replies, I've had some time to calm down and relax and I'm going to make the best of it. I did try to switch my trip to the allure or the oasis, who do have solarium pools, but due to the price I got for my cabin on the harmony, I would have had to go to an inside cabin. RC Club Royale reservations were great, they were going to to move ships for me at no charge. I need to remember, hey, I'm on a cruise . I may actually like the kids pools, who knows? :) Going to be open to it. I've only been in inside cabins so that's one thing I was looking for on harmony - going to enjoy the jr. suite and the perks that come with it - lack of solarium pool, no worries, lol.

  4. LOL you are kidding about the refund right?

Sort of, but 1/2 serious. My husband is trying to calm me down now. Think of this. I take a vacation once a year. With the exception of a carnival cruise which i will never do again, I sailed Royal. Every Royal ship had a pool in the solarium. That's all I do in the daytime. I don't play basketballl or do the flowrider. I relax, read a book, suntan and hang out and have drinks all day in the solarium. Now, there is no place to cool off. It may be silly to some but that's how I feel. I realize it's all my fault for assuming RC has a solarium pool. I made that assumption based on the other RC ships I had been on.

The carnival cruise that was so bad was because their were kids in the pool with diapers, just not the vacation vibe I'm looking for.

  5. OMG! I just booked our first outside cabin ever, in fact a junior suite for the harmony, after getting an alert for a great price. So excited about having a cruise in 20 days. The time I decide to be spontaneous and I find out there is no adults pool and less hot tobs? SMH and facepalm. I don't think I could switch it out to oasis or allure but it's worth a call I guess. I know this is a 'first world' problem for sure but I really loved the waterfall solarium pool. adults could bring their adult beverages in, no one was screaming, etc.

  6. Thanks for the quick reply Bob. Misters are nice, but for me, the only thing I do in the day is hang out in the solarium and go back and forth from suntanning into the pool. This is my own fault for making an assumption that all RC ships had an adults pool. That has just been my experience.

I took a Carnival Cruise once (The Dream) that didn't have an adults pool and I was swimming with babies with diapers on. That's not my idea of relaxation, lol.

  7. I've been on Oasis twice - loved it . The best thing about RC ships is the Solarium area and pool (no children) Spontaneously my husband and booked the Harmony yesterday for a sailing in three weeks. I figured it would be a similar ship. I started looking at videos today and walkthroughs. I don't seem to see anything about a solarium pool on harmony??!! but I see there is still a solarium. I love having a lounge in the solarium, with a book, soaking up the sun in the Carribbean and cooling off in the pool. Love the waterfall solarium pool on Oasis. What do folks do? Leave the solarium and go to the kids pool? I can have my chair, book, etc... in the solarium and go to the pool and not worry about people stealing things because I can keep an eye from the pool. but I don't feel comfortable going all the way to a different area of the ship to another pool. It also looks like there are less hot tubs.

This is all my fault for not researching this ship and making assumptions but I needed to vent/rant.

  8. A few years ago we were on Freedom and a couple had 2 dogs with them, a male and a female, the dogs each had a matching outfit for everything, and I mean matching their owners, the lady carried the female dog while the male carried the male dog, they had matching formal and casual outfits, then matching outfits for each port, the lady wore red shorts and a red Hawaiian shirt, and the dog wore the same...the man wore blue shorts and blue hawaiian shirt and the dog wore the same.,

they matched the dogs to everything they wore every day, they even had matching swimwear !!! not that the dogs ever got in the pool, but we saw the owners sunbathing by the pool with the dogs at their feet in doggy like speedos and the female in a doggy bikini

these dogs always created a circus around them with everyone saying how cute they were and touching them, was a sight to see

Wow, they sound like some selfish narcissistic people who actually take their "service" dogs to sunbathe. The animals are props to them. Sad.:o

  9. Not necessarily. We have friends who have a child who is very brittle diabetic. Before he got his dog, he ended up in the hospital all the time. Now, they don't have to worry so much, especially during the night, because the dog alerts them all when his sugars get too low She is a small dog and the child often carries her around, and the dog sleeps in the bed with him. Apparently, she needs to be close because she detects changes in his blood sugar levels through a specific scent in his breath.

I'm just curious, I'm not a diabetic. Isn't there any other way to know (computer or blood test) if your blood sugar is low or is a dog the only way to detect this? I would just think for a few days they could leave the dog home or a cruise wouldn't be the best vacation for them.

  10. I did not know any but service dogs were allowed on cruise ships and this dog was doing no service except being cute. So what gives?

The service dogs are everywhere now. People abuse it like handicapped stickers. I love my dog and would love to take her on the cruise. Do I feel better when my dog is around? Yes. so she is an emotional therapy to me. I just have not taken that extra step, like others have has, to go to the doctor to get the doctor to write a note about my "emotional" stability, just so I can take my dog everywhere. I just wouldn't do it. And if you have a companion pet, it's pretty selfish of you to "turn" it into a service dog and take it on the cruise . The pet would rather be home in it's own environment then in a purse next to you in a smoky casino, lol

That being said, yes I know there are valid disabilities that warrant a service dog.....but c'mon...we all know many of the folks are "fudging" the truth.

  11. Hello,

I booked a "W" (suite) guarantee yesterday with the Casino Reservations for a July 15 sailing on the harmony of the seas. I received my paperwork immediately. I understand that your room can be assigned up until the day of sailing . I logged on this morning and it said I was now "ocean view accessible guarantee" That is not what I wanted or paid for. I called Customer Service and they said it may be a computer glitch and they would report it.

Sharing in case others are in the same situation. I hope it gets resolved. I sprung extra $$ for this suite guaranteed this cruise. Luckily the documentation they emailed me also says "W"

  12. My hubby and I visited Jamaica for the first time. At the suggestion of the excursion desk we booked "Best of Jamaica" for $119. That included a visit to Dunns River falls, a cruise, a beach and a lunch.

No one on the tour seemed to know which order this was going to happen.

The port was falmouth and we waited an hour to get into our bus for some unknown reason. ummm not a great start.

We took the bus trip to dunns river falls. it was very early, looked like we were the first bus of the day...nope..our tour guide had us line up and in the meantime several more busses came. We were now the 4th in line for the falls. okay...that took about two hours there. Dunns river falls was terrific but terribly unorganized, we were there too long and when you leave you have to go through a gauntlet of pushy vendors

We then went to a hotel on the beach for our lunch. We were told the beach and lunch was just 30 minutes..wha???

Then we got into a boat and had rum punch and just drover around. The tour guides said nothing. I could see we passed the Sandals resorts.

Again, what a lame tour called "best of jamaica"

  13. A big part of my cruise experience is spending time in the casino. I am a long-time NCL exclusive cruiser and have received many comped cruises (less charges that is) from NCL. However, with their new management things have changed dramatically. I am considering switching to another line and would like others' opinions as to how well they like the casinios on other lines like Carnival, RCL, Princell, etc. I am newly retired and expected to spend a good amount of my travelling budget on cruising. Which of these lines give out "free" cruises to frequent casino players? How well are you treated as a casino guest?

Thanks for any info. I know I would have to earn my stripes but just want some sort of idea.

Hi, I just put a posting of my recent experience on RCI on this forum, please read. Frankly I'm underwhelmed with my award for the amount of play I did. They awarded me a free inside cabin on a 3 night cruise when I gambled every night $40 table hands and $5 pull slots for 4-5 hours a night. Oh, and it was only a small list of cruises or $500 a future cruise. I received the exact same offer in May where I used the $500 off on my 7 day cruise. Drinks free while in the casino for me and my hubby.

  14. Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know I just got off the Oasis two days ago. As far as Club Royale for RCI here was my experience.

There was a letter in my stateroom the first day from the casino host advising me to come to the casino to introduce myself. My husband and I went there and they gave both of us stickers on our sea pass cards which gave us free drinks while gambling and to waive any cash advance fee. I gamble and my husband doesn't but they did extend the free drinks to him. I'm just a water drinker but if you drink beer or cocktails it was a nice perk. Those Casino servers were great and came around a lot whether i was at a table or a slot.

To qualify for a free cruise you had to get a certain amount of points on your card. I asked the host to check my points on the last day and between the slots and tables I had enough for a future cruise certificate. The offer though was not as good as I thought. The certificate they gave me was just for me and the "free" cruises were the same ones offered to me at the beginning of the year through a mailer. (3 and 4 day ones) IN fact there was a long list of cruises to choose from and 1/2 of the cruises had already passed. Free cruise or $500 off.

The casino host did comp me and my hubby a dinner at chops and a bottle of wine due to my play. That was nice as it was on our 10 year anniversary.

I found the slots were very very tight and I did not do well but the tables were good to me. I can't remember a time in a casino where the slots were worse. the indian casinos are much better and I think those are tight. I had no jackpots over $200 and I play $5 pulls. I was in the casino every night and from what I could hear/see there were no significant jackpots on the slots. Disappointing.

  15. I think what folks are saying - Basically what I'm reading/hearing is that you can wear anything and RCI won't enforce it. Sad really. If you want to wear shorts, tank tops and flip flops, you can do so because it's your vacation and you paid for it.

I do want to mention that the MDR is fine dining. Would you feel comfortable going to a fancy restaurant in shorts? However you answer that question is your answer.

  16. Ah passive aggressive. I love it. I simply stated my opinion, don't like it don't read it. Simple.

Correction, you didn't "simply" state your opinion.

You put my post in quotes and attacked my opinion and said I was wrong because you worked at a restaurant for 7 years. If you call that sharing your your opinion then....:confused:

  17. People usually become servers because there is an opportunity to make decent money depending on what type of restaurant you work at. Just like with any job in life, if you suck at it your best bet is to find a different occupation. I will not reward anyone regardless of how much an hour they make for doing a crappy job. I worked for a major restaurant chain for 7 years so I am well aware of what they make.

That being said I can only recall one time where I left zero tip because the server was just that bad due to behavior not related to anything else like a delay from the kitchen or the restaurant being busy.

I was just sharing my opinion to the OP. I'm sure you are the expert on this yourself due to your 7 years in the hospitality industry.

Thank you for letting me know how wrong I am.
