  1. I live in Covington!

Hello karen! for all I know I have seen you in Belk or at that antique shop. I usually go into both places when I am visiting my MIL. Of course now that we have a Belk in D'ville, Belk is not as important to me.

  2. I leave for my cruise next month on the 19th.

I'm not sure if the yard sale that is in Villa Rica is apart of the "largest yard sale", but it is pretty big. For some reason I think I saw something in the VR new and views that the yard sale in VR is the last weekend in april...the weekend that I will be coming home from my cruise.

Okay I looked back and it was JCCollins and ttotty that are cruising right now. Ttotty lives in D'ville like me. JCCollins lives in Videlia. I hope they are enjoying themselves.

Is that yardsale thingie antiques? or is it a lot of clothing? I love antiques but I have enough used clothing that I do not wear!

Perhpas you can post when it is, and I can come and check it out.

  3. Well have our fellow cruisers left yet? I suppose my fellow Douglasville resident has as he said his crusie started the 12th.

vikinghchick was it you who has a cruise on the 14th?

I don't think that yardsale thing comes as far as D'ville. At least I have never seen it. Are you saying it is in villa Rica?

  4. Well Va Traveler, I agree that it is fun to really dress, like the old movies I used to watch when I was a kid. I would see the old stars like Clark Gable all dressed to the nines, and I can remember thinking when I grow up I want to go out and dance, all dressed up just like that. I thought it would be so easy to do. but you are right, we don't have many chances around here. And when you can , it costs a fortune, like at thecharity events....not something I frequent. But thanks for the advice. My DH and I will probably dress, if we can fit it in the suitcases ;) thanks for all your help everyone, i will report back.....L

That is why I would like to do Cunard one day. I suppose we will have to wait until retirement for my hubby to have the time-but I would love to "cross the pond" on Cunard and then return on a repositioning ship.

  5. The formal nights were pretty formal when we sailed with HAL. I wore a more formal dress for the first night (Captain's Gala) and a cocktail dress for the second event. Even though we were in the Caribbean, it seemed to be a more formal crowd when it came time for dinner.

Boardwalk babe, both VAtraveler, the OP, and myself found that HAL in the Caribbean, is not as dressy as it used to be, compared to NCL, Carnival, and those type lines, yes. But we both saw more cocktail/after 5 than black tie.

I did see this one couple, looked to be around 60 who were gorgeous! I saw them in one of the lounges dancing before dinner. She had on a halter style red satin evening gown with a few sparklies, but just a few, just enough to enhance the gown, not overwhelm it. She also had a great marabou shurg/wrap; her man was in a tux of course! They were something else!

Unfortunately, all though most looked nice at dinner, many dressed down. At 10 pm when we left dinner, many from early dinner were in shorts, and not even nice shorts, but cut offs and gym shorts. It certainly ruined the "mood."

  6. VaTraveler, I beleive cruises have gotten more causal. it seems every time I go they are a little more causal than the year before. My HAL cruise last April was more formal than my NCL cruise in November. However, I bleieve that is the difference in the 2 lines somewhat. It seemed to me cocktail or "after 5" is more appropriate than black tie on HAL nowadays for formal night. ON NCL though, you can wear resort causal and be fine. Of course they call their "formal night", "dress up or not night."

Dibbitz, I have no idea about how dressy your European cruse will be, but my TA was dressier than the Caribbean. My cruise on Celebrity Constellation in Sept. 07, was more dressy than my HAL Westerdam western Caribbean in April 08.

  7. I am from Suwanee - and patiently awaiting my next cruise. It should be fun - my cousin and her daughter from upstate New York and my daughter - who is currently living in California will be on the Carnival Legend for the 'exotic western caribbean' - is there a not-exotic one? - but we will be on the cruise as a reuinon to start with - I haven't seen my cousin for about 10 years now - but also my daughter's husband will be deployed with the Marines during this time - hope to take her mind off it a little (I don't think you can ever NOT think about that) but let's call it a diversion for her.:o

And I've always wanted to find someone to do a small part of that world's longest yard sale with - none of my friends have any interest.

Isn't Suwanee close to the Mall of Georgia? I have been there once or twice. Not recently though. I remember our going and seeing Fantasia in 3 D there I guess about 10 years ago now.

  8. Hi. Your plans are sounding better all the time. We did Hawaii with -X- several years ago. We flew to San Diego, caught the ship and flew home from Honolulu on Thanksgiving Day. What a long day that was. We flew into BWI and drove home from there. Somewhere in Maryland, we were stopped at a traffic lite and heard horns, realized that we had both fallen asleep while waiting for the light to change. :oDecided it was time to take a break at the nearest restaurant. If we ever do that again we will cruise at least both ways from California to Hawaii. But your idea of through the canal sounds even better!Oh for unlimited funds and no jobs...or flexible jobs!

I think I gave the wrong impression, sorry, we are only doing the TA to Europe, then the 10 day through the med, then are flying home from Rome. 26 days total.. I don't seem to have the problem flying during the day and west and I do at night and east. Can't figure it. I must have a foolish biological clock. I still am not crazy about it but it is okay. As for the luggage, the tightest restrictions are those from VA to FLL tho. So I have to restrain myself!Good to talk to you......Liz

Okay, so just one flight, sort've what we did, except we only did the TA. There was a couple on our roll call that had done the previous 2 week cruise-so they were 26 days on ship. It made sense to me, if you could take the time from work, flights are expensive.

We also had a few people on our roll call that cruised over on Cunard Queen Mary 2, spent 5 days in England and then cruised back on Celebrity Constellation. One couple lived in Atlanta, like us and we had met them for lunch along with a few others from Atlanta. They actually took Amtrak up to NY and returned on Amtrak from NJ.

As you are doing two cruises-no worry about repeating outfits-very few will have been on both cruises.

  9. Hi. sounds like a nice plan, maybe it is possible with all the deals floating out there. We planned this trip as I am not a fan of flying, esp. at night and this allowed us to skip that miserable flight to Europe, filled with jetlag. DH has always wanted to do a TA and we used to talk about doing it on our own boat, but then we found out how seasick I can be.....so this seemed like a good alternative. then we wanted to get as much value out of that one trip as we could so we are doing the B2B. We are traveling now as we are both cancer survivors and you just never know, do you? But I think 30 years together is an even better reason to do a great trip.

Again. thanks for the help......I am sure that you and i will both look gorgeous! Liz:)

Oh then you are doing the round trip from US one? Esther E did that on HAL Prinsedam. In July 2007 I think. She will post here sometimes. I also saw another poster who is doing that on Princess this summer. However, if you are not flying, then you do not have to worry so much about the luggage limit.

You know another thing I thought of-if I did two full Panama Canal transits, one over to CA and one back, I could skip the flying. But hubby really wants see Hawaii. Now if we could stay away 2 months AND had the funds, I suppose we could do three, LOL! You know, over to CA- then a 2 week Hawaii, week or so in CA, and then back to FL.

  10. The snow was too crazy yesterday! I live in Villa Rica and we had NO snow, but I came to D'vile yesterday afternoon and yall were covered up. It was like I was living in another world. I was kinda hoping for no school or work. Make it into a long weekend. The snow does not freak me out either. Everyone seemed to be getting all paranoid over a little snow. Come on, it's GA it's been 15 years since we've had any decent snow around here. But it was pretty to look at even for a little while.

My daughter goes to Harvester right behind the Kroger on CH and my babysitter lives in Arbor Station. I am always over on yall's side of town.

My MIL lives in Covington, my hubby's family is on that side of Atlanta, and his youngest niece is still in school. My SIL also teaches in Conyers. School was canceled over there so they both had a day off.

  11. Oh me too. I used to be an easy size 4....but no more! The lines of experience are everywhere...but I am so much wiser now, LOL. Thanks for the help. Nice to have gals to chat with, have a good one. Liz

I remembered that I have put coral and black together on a cruise. LOL! We did a 12 day cruise in 07 a TA from Europe to the US. We also spent a few days pre cruise in England. So, like you, I had to watch my packing. (16 days total)I also took mostly black, although I did take a brown skirt. I brought bronze dress shoes that looked good with both colors to keep down the shoes! I had black shoes with me, but they were walking shoes, not dress shoes. LOL!

I brought several silky/satin camis/tanks that I wore with a black bolero/ shrug with sparkly sequins on it along with black slacks on informal night. There were 3 informal nights, so I wore a fuchsia cami, a coral cami and a teal cami to "switch up" the outfit. The second informal night though, to "mix things up" a bit more, I skipped the shrug, as that tank (the teal) had more substance to it, and I simply wore it with a black shawl.

I envy you going for a whole month! Next year we are planning a 10 day HAL cruise partial transit, but my dream is to do a full transit to California, spend a few days there and then I would like to do a two week to Hawaii before flying home, all together that would be a month total and almost back to back. Now this is just in the dream stages-LOL! I imagine I will have to settle for one or the other but tha tis what I would liek to do when my hubby and I celebrate our thirtieth anniversary.

  12. Well snow or not- my daughter still had to work today. School was not canceled on this side of Atlanta.

Snow does not bother me, tornadoes do and I am sure we will be seeing them again the next couple of months.

  13. I am from Vidalia (the Sweet Onion City)! My DH and I are cruising to Cozumel 3/12/09; only 22 days and counting down! This will be our 7th cruise. :)

Okay it looks as though you and Travis will be cruising the same time. Have fun!

  14. I live in the Arbor Station Subdivision. I am 23. and 13 days away from SPRING BREAK CRUISE YAY!

Gracious Travis! I know where that is. You could walk to the mall couldn't you?

What do you think of the snow outside? Here it is March 1st and we have snow, and yesterday all I needed was a light jacket it was so warm! I don't mind the snow, it is pretty-but I would hate it if we lose power.

    Have fun on your cruise.

  15. Hi momofmeg, I wasn't the least bit offended and I do appreciate the help. You've given me new ideas for planning the "cruisewear".....thanks, Liz

Oh, I did not think you were. You told me you prefered coral, so you "got" what I was saying, and I was replying to you.

Hoyaheal though felt my post was more "general" and I suppose she is right in a way, as I have no idea what your coloring is. Someone whose complexion has more of a pink undertone, may would look more sun burnt and not more youthful. When I was younger, my skin had more of a pink undertone, but as I have aged, my coloring, although the same degree of fairness, has sallowed. I need that pink! I believe that is true of many women in their fifities.

I doubt this trick would work for a gal around 40 who would like to look thirty-LOL! so Hoyaheel has a good point, my advice is not going to help everyone. However, I was really only explaining why I said fuchsia, simply MY OWN personal preferance-not advice really-LOL!

That is one thing about these little tricks I have learned for making myself look better. I have found as I have aged, colors I used to not care for much, and would not dream of wearing, I will now, if that color makes me look younger! LOL! that is my definition of what looks good on me now-anything that makes me look younger, and also anything that makes me look slimmer! Not a worry for me so much, just 10 years ago!

  16. I don't think it has to be an issue of "too bold". Some people (like me) just don't look good in fuchsia:p

For longer trips, I love mix & match & neutral colors with a few different accessories or scarves--makes life and packing so much easier!! When I pack, I usually have black & khaki as my neutrals and red and turquoise as my accent colors, and most things will go with each other to make multiple outfits (and layers if that's important, based on my destination)

Actually I was simply using an example of a bright color, used to change the look of an outfit, to help expand a wardrobe. I am sorry if I sounded as though I was saying what someone must do. I guess I should have explained myself better. I do like fuchsia, but with such a bright color, a LITTLE goes a long way- so I understood not everyone would care for it- it can be too much. It would be too much on me head to toe also! I only use that as an accent color-never head to toe! Perhaps a blouse at most, under a gray jacket, with navy or black pants/skirt for example.

I like fuchsia because when I put pinks near my face I actually look younger, the color reflects a rosy glow to my skin. I have noticed this happens on other women also. Now I am fair skinned, brown hair, hazel eyes, but I have noticed this works on women of color around my age, and also on blond haired, blue eyed women in my age group. Bright pinks near the face seems to work well on many gals with very different complexions and coloring. It is a nice trick for gals over 50.

Coral does that too, as it is a deep enough pink, however, I don't care for coral and black, (this is just me-I don't actually think there is anything wrong with it) but I will pair fuchsia and black or red and black. Of course red does not give my skin the rosy glow, but I do like it with black.

However, coral, I am willing to wear more. I would wear a coral dress but never a fuchsia dress.

Anyway, I am sorry if I offended. Everyone must find what works for them.

I also like teal with black as the other poster said.

  17. Hello sagnellae! My wife and I are from Georgia too, and from the looks of your other posts I think we'll be crossing the pond together in November on the Independence of the Seas.

    -David & Constance

I did a repo TA in Sept. 2007 on the Celebrity Constellation. We loved it-you guys have fun!

We wanted to spend a few days in Paris then, before our cruise, which left from Dover, but my hubby wanted to go to Stonehenge worst, and he could only take so much time from work. (We were away from home 16 days total) He promised me then that we would go back to see Paris another trip.

I hope you guys can spend some time in Europe precruise, with what the airfare costs, it just makes sense, if you can swing the extra time away from work.

  18. Thanks for the advice. Yes, I am up for anything that makes me look younger...DH wants to know if I wear color near my face, will HE look any younger? :D I have been told my "colors' are coral and teal, so I'll start looking. Thanks much...me

I love the same colors. BTW, coral as it is in the pink family, does the same as fuchsia, any pink shade does, that is not a pale pink. So if fuchsia is too bold for you, try coral.

As far as adding a pop of color to black, I got that from Stacey and Clinton form WNTW.

  19. thanks, so it sounds like I will be okay with a long black dress, a sleeveless black sheath, black dress pants and some dressy tops and maybe a shear type wrap? Maybe add some color for the tops on smart casual nights? 26 days is a long time to plan esp. with luggage restrictions. I appreciate the time all of you take to advise. :)

I think you will look very well and sticking to one color palette you can mix and match and save on packing. Perhaps if you pick those really slight weight wraps you could bring several, and have a couple in bright colors. I really like fuchsia with black myself. Fuchsia is a nice color for bringing "life" into your face also. I always feel when I put that color around my face that I look younger.

  20. I'm from Atlanta (ITP)

    My next cruises will be...

10/12/09 - RCL Enchantment of the Seas (aft balcony cabin)

    04/17/10 - Carnival Liberty (2 aft cabins)

Hi, right now I have no cruises booked-but we are going to Paris, France this summer-so our vacation fund is maxed out. I hope next year to do a partial Panama Canal transit.

  21. OMG! We had heavy, heavy rain plus the thunder and lightening and wind. It was raining so hard we couldn't see our lake that's only 50 yards from the house!

Since I've only been here in Georgia for about 4 months, I was really freaked out. DH has been through tornados before so he was telling me it was no big deal - yeah, right:eek:

It will happen again-so get used to it. I have lived in Georgia the majority of my 54 years. It happens a lot this time of year-but my home has never been damaged. The closest we have come to having damage was a tree down in our yard-fortunately that night we had parked in the carport and not the driveway-if we had left the cars in the driveway as we normally did, the tree would ahve destroyed them.

Last year the sirens went off-and I thought no big deal- 30 minutes or so later friends started calling to see if we were okay-why? because the Kroger less than a mile from us lost it's roof. We had no idea! LOL!
