  1. On top of the connection instructions posted earlier, if you are worried about data charges, on Android devices you should (before going into airplane mode) go into your data usage settings and turn OFF mobile data. This turns of the cellular network data (you could still make cell phone calls and text in this mode) and then once you go into airplane mode the only way you can get internet access is to go through WiFi and the ship's network. And if Airplane mode accidently gets turned off, you won't get a burst of cell data access with your phone trying to sync email and such through the cell system.

I am sure there is a similar setting for iPhones

And to answer the original question, yes you can use Facebook and Facebook messenger through the Social Media package.

  2. Amazed that people will jump on a post just to post something negative.

Thanks Frank12.. its been that way since last summer... the signage is there and there are seemingly a bunch of shops that could be open... but nothing is.. I would think they would have something open by now.

  3. Are the new shops and the Hard Rock Cafe they have been build for what seems like for years opened up again across the road from the Carnival Cruise Terminal in Cozumel? I think it's the Puerta Maya Terminal. My wife is head there in a couple of weeks and was curious if they had to go downtown or not for shopping that wasn't inside the terminal area.

  4. Most of your questions have been answered. The following are corrections/further information... we have been on the Triumph 5ish times...

    1) The Triumph has a Blue Iguana Bar on Lido, you can buy just about any drink you want in a Trevis tumbler glass there. I think you can also just buy them there. If you are planning this cruise for when the Triumph is sailing from Glaveston, then wait until you are in international waters to buy any drinks. They will charge you state taxes on them if you don't wait.

    4) Yes, the triumph posts the menu on the TV in your cabin as well as sometime in the morning for the whole day outside the MDR. You can check it there or on the TV

    7) Yes to ordering a full pizza but No to getting it through room service. Triumph is not part of the new RS menu trial. maybe by the time you sail.. but not currently.

    8) you can't buy Cheers for the first day on ships leaving from Texas. (again stupid Texas laws) so it can't be a priority day one. Then you have to decide on if is worth it for you. (They do prorate the price since you missed a day... )

  5. jwjax.. I wasn't responding to your post... maybe that is why i missed your point. I was responding to an early post that claimed people only went to the party to get plastered.... I supposed you could if you chugged each drink.. but if you drank at a normal pace I doubt you would get through your third drink.

  6. Texas fares are cheap because they can only sail the western Caribbean. Most people want to tour the eastern. Better ports and beaches etc.

This is so wrong. Galveston cruises are higher priced than Miami. They have a limited amount of space. If anything the cost of a Galveston cruise is more expensive than a Miami cruise. I can readily find the same length cruises leaving from Miami cheaper.

  7. Well they are no longer watered down drinks. They were serving full size drinks. But getting plastered would have been work. The party only lasts an hour, so you would have to really work at it to have more than 2 drinks. And if that is the only reason you go to the party (to suck down as many drinks as you could grab) then you most likely didn't bring your kids along anyway. In fact I don't think I saw any people with more than one drink on there table. So I guess without the golds the party is less of a booze fest then it used to be...

  8. Ok- when Carnival posted the new rules for the past guest party and declared that "only" P&D guests will be allowed to attend, many people commented that they wouldn't go if their non-platinum children could not attend. I made a comment to that thread saying there was NO WAY Carnival would turn your children away if you wanted to attend. I was quickly rebutted by people saying that HQ re-stated that ONLY those invited could attend.

Fast forward to June 13th where the wife and I were in the party on the Breeze. There were about 10 kids in there , 3 of them were "interviewed" by the CD when they came up tot the stage to help hand out beads or something. he asked them how many cruises they had been on, 2 of them were on their second cruise and one was on their 1st. It was possible that some of the others were old enough to be platinum but I doubt all were.

So I restate it- There is no way Carnival would turn your children away from the party.

Now having gotten that off my chest.. The drinks flowed in large glasses. My wife was able to get a Kiss on the Lips and a Chocolate Mocha Get-Away and I was able to get some nice scotch so there didn't seem to be any limit to what you get order to drink. They had the normal drinks floating around but you could order what ever you wanted and got it fairly quickly. The food was about the same as what was served before. The party on the Breeze filled the comedy lounge. and the content of the "show" really has not changed that much. It's just less crowded.

  9. Well ok.. I could be wrong there or maybe that is something they recently changed. Maybe it was just the boarding pass I couldn't see/print before final payment... so that is not the problem then.. must be a system problem then..

They have been having issues lately. I tried printing my documents for my cruise coming up this weekend and it would not let me open them all at once (the boarding pass, luggage tags and documents) I had to click on each individually and then it would give them to me.. but then they were not recognized as a pdf even though they were.. I just told the computer to open them with Acrobat...

Not a huge deal but somewhat time consuming with 2 bookings needing to print out everything...

  10. Yes Cargo shorts are ok. By dress shorts they mean anything but cutoffs or swim trunks. I am sure the term also gives them leeway to reject someones shorts if they find them unacceptable.. but let's face it. Carnival is rarely going to enforce a "standard" . And I don't say that to throw an insult at Carnival... I like Carnival.. I just don't agree with their relaxing of the dress codes....

  11. I know they won't let you see your cruise DOCUMENTS until you have made final payment. But I have not seen it showing the wrong cruise info for a booking number. They should all be separate "tabs" under "Manage My Bookings" make sur eyou mouse click on the tab of the correct bookin gnumber to seet hat one's info. If it still is incorrect then it is most likely some sort of computer glitch on their end.

  12. Well it is hit or miss and does depend on ship. Not all of them have a lot of metal (and the metal is not always magnetic)

Reason is that those metals are heavy and they want to keep the weight of the ships down as much as possible. Especially on the bigger ships and their upper deck. You will see them change to light weight materials everywhere they can else the ships get "top heavy" and their roll tendency increase (not good on a cruise ship) They want to keep that center off gravity low and below the water line if they can.

  13. Yes, it does happen. The "lost luggage" when found is forwarded to your first port of call. Then someone brings it to the ship. This is why it was suggested that you pack a day or 2 of clothing in your carry on. Of course if you are taking more than one suitcase it makes sense to pack items for both or all of the people in each suitcase. So if one gets lost at least all of one person's stuff is not gone.

Worst case situation, the airline does not find the luggage at all (this happen to a family on our cruise last summer.) They went through the whole cruise with whatever they could buy in the gift shop and when they got to port. Our meet and greet group pulled together and everyone donated toiletries and other things for them but it still was a hassle.

Another tip... all put your important medications in your carry on.. you can't easily replace those on a cruise.

  14. You need to call carnival and let them know what you are planning.. The $750 penalty would be if you didn't plan on re booking. If you are moving your cruise then you should only have to pay the $50 change fee. Next time you are not sure if you will be able to cruise consider booking Past Guest or Fun Select fares where you can cancel without a penalty 70 days and further before the cruise.

  15. On the Dream the blow dryer is in the makeup dresser drawer out in the cabin. Which is better because you can do your hair while some else is in the bathroom.

And sorry about the answer on the beverage card question. I missed the "and alcohol card" part It was later amended to be correct in that everyone 21 + in the same cabin must get it if one does (which I think is a stupid rule since my wife does not drink). And the break even for that is probably 3 high end cocktails or 4 beers per day.

  16. So I am booked on the Dream Aug 23 out of NOLA and I am going with my boyfriend and my 12 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy. My best friend also has a cabin and she's a newbie to cruising. We have a few questions that maybe ya'll can clear up for us please.

We decided to fly in the day before as I dont do well rushing. Got a free night on points at the Residence Inn Downtown so I think I am close enough.

What time should we arrive at port?

    A. If you arrive by 11AM you should not have to stand in long lines. If you can't be there by then you can wait until about 1:30PM to avoid the rush. However, I feel that the sooner I can get on board the sooner my cruise begins.

What do we need to bring for "dress" clothing? (can my men wear khaki shorts or do they need full length khakis, and shoes or clean sneakers?)

    A. Dress Code is really relaxed now. Jeans or Shorts are fine in the main dinner room. (except on formal night) Just no cut off jeans. Also is supposed to be a collared shirt (no tanks) Formal night has been relaxed to basically casual business wear

Is it smart to allow my 10 yr old to sign himself out of the kids club? I go back and forth in my head on this one. He wants to go to kids club and yes we know the kids will be separated, they are cool with that.

    A. Only you know your child. Is he responsible enough to sign out and come find you or go to your cabin or some other agreed upon place? Unless he has friends or adults to be with I would be uncomfortable letting a 10 year old wander a ship alone...

I booked with a travel agent, but how are you all getting the price reduced or extra OBC from promos? I dont think I qualify for any due to my stateroom type...cloud 9 spa

    A. You are only qualified if you booked Early Saver rate AND you see the price on your category cabin reduced. (i.e. it needs to be a spa cabin price lower than yours. You would then have to ask your travel agent to submit a price reduction form. If you booked yourself or through a carnival PVP you could fill out the form yourself.

Where can I purchase soda packages or liquor packages? 1 per guest?

    A. yes, 1 per quest wishing to use it. They can be bought once on board, you will see tables set up where they are selling them or you can go to any open bar to get it. You need to drink about 4 glasses of soda a day to make the plan break even. Sometimes its best to pay as you go, but you can make that choice.

Whats a safe time to book a flight home when we "land" back in NOLA port? I know it says 8am but we need a realistic time of when you get off the ship. I missed the faster to the fun option :(

You will probably be off the ship by 10:30am. You can tell them you have an early flight and get off in the first groups AND if you can take your luggage off yourself you can do self disembarkation and get off by 9AM. But to be safe try not to book a flight earlier than 11Am.

    THANK YOU!!!!
