Dinner tonight was prime rib. That seems to be what we always order on night 1. We had dinner with a couple from our roll call on their first cruise.

Susan was happy, because their apple pie on this ship does not have raisins.

Oh my. So happy to hear about Apple pie with no raisins. Yeah!!!!I

I made a big deal on Anthem to a section captain and was given Apple pie each nite with NO raisins. Found out she is married to the pastry chef. Who knew?

Yes, it is only in the Main Dining Room and only on one morning.  My experience has been it is on one of the last sea days.

They still serve the regular eggs, bacon, etc.  However, the right hand side of the menu is all about chocolate. 😁

Thanks so much for the info. We have been on Grandeur many times but usually go to the Windjammer for breakfast. I love someone making me an omlet and like to sleep in on sea days. Never heard about chocolate breakfast in mdr. Always learning new things!

  3. re: the flu shot. I have a cruise coming up in 2 weeks so decided to get my shot yesterday so my arm won't be so sore.

Two things. First you're not going to "get the flu" from a flu shot. And second: this flu shot is different from most which take 2 weeks to take full effect. The pharmacist administering it to me said that this one is fully effective w/in 5 days. So it starts working almost right away. My arm was SUPER sore the first day but 24 hours later it's not sore at all.

I second that sentiment. DH and I got our flu shot Wednesday. We are headed to Freedom next Saturday and wanted to make sure it would be in effect. Thanks for letting me know it only takes five days.

We are doing everything we can to stay healthy.

What cruise are you going on? I remember cruising with you years ago either on Grandeur or Enchantment. Went to a wine tasting and the sommelier was showing how to uncork wine with a special implement and broke the bottle.

  4. I have a question concerning the cruise airfare specifically air2sea. My husband just put a deposit on a Transpacific cruise for 2020 from Sydney to Honolulu. We have done a TA and was able to take advantage of flights to Rome. If we book our flight from Pittsburgh will air2sea permit an overnight stop in Hawaii and then continue to Sydney? I would love to break this flight up into sections. Since the one way tickets are usually much cheaper it would be nice to take advantage of the cruise air, but will book my own air if I can't break up the flight.

    Appreciate any info available.

  5. Awesome review of St Thomas. This is what we've pretty much done the last few times we've been there. The Skyride is pretty great and we loved having Bushwhackers at Paradise point.

We'll be in St Thomas again in August and plan on either taking the ferry to St John's or heading over to Magen's Bay.

    Gotta love those Bushwackers!!!!!

  6. So I emailed them again to confirm no tribute band is listed for the 05/17 and they said at this time no band is scheduled but that can change. I hope so because I love the tribute bands. Guess I will just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the update. I heard months ago Journey was to be the band. Wonder what happened.

Never been on Anthem before and we are getting excited. Especially since it is currently snowing here in Pittsburgh. I have had enough of this!!!_

  7. I was on the Grandeur last week and Michael Grimm, winner of America’s Got Talent year 5 was the headliner. He was FANTASTIC, There was also an enjoyable Beatles tribute band, Britain’s Finest. My nose was out of joint for the first couple of days of the cruise due to the roast beef on hard roll no longer being served at the Park Cafe and changes to the MDR menus. However, by the end of the cruise, all was forgiven as the Michael Grimm concert was a highlight for me. My first cruise was on the NCL Gem the first year she sailed and the entertainment every night was outstanding while the food was mediocre, at best, but I loved the cruise. My next cruise was on the Carnival Pride where the food was quite good but the entertainment and activities just dreadful. So, I have come to the conclusion that good shows in the theater are very important to me. It goes without saying that my idea of a “good show” may not be the same as someone else’s.

I would be interested in hearing what headliners have appeared on other ships. I understand the shows are fantastic on the biggest ships but also have heard you won’t get in to see them unless you make reservations long before you get on the ship.

What headliners have been on ships you’ve been on?

We saw Britain's Finest on Grandeur and loved their show.

We also had the roast beef in January in park cafe. When did that end? Was it when the new menu was introduced?
