  1. I bought a few years ago at 20$. It's in my ira so I don't plan on selling anytime soon. We mostly do TAs now, so I can get my shareholder benefit of 250$ for every cruise. So far, I have received almost all my purchase money back in OBC. If they stop giving me the OBC for TA cruises, I will probably sell mine then and make a nice profit.

We also bought RCL stock years ago at $13. We have completely recouped our investment over the years in OBC. I know that it offers a tiny dividend, but have not been able to use the stockholder benefit for quite some time on regular cruises. Carl and I also have been booking a few TA and I didn't realize the shareholder benefit of $250 was available. Need to research that before we go on TA in October. Thanks for the heads up.

  2. I'm looking at taking the train from Rome to the port at Civitavecchia for our cruise on the Koningsdam. I was looking at the train schedules, and noticed that you can choose either a second class (ordinary) ticket for 5 euros, or a first class ticket for 7.70 euros. Nowhere on the site can I see what the difference is between the two tickets. Does anyone have any info?

Great suggestion. Last time in Rome before a TA we just paid for a private car to Civitavecchia. I need to do a little research on the train. How often does it run and where the station is at both ends. Never gave this a thought. Thanks.

  3. I got it on our Serenade Snowbird Migration cruise (Oct 19 2015). But it was only offered the last 4 days of the cruise. Perhaps others asked about it at the beginning of the cruise and not when there were 4 days left (the minimum amount of days left) in the cruise.

Carl and I were on the Snowbird cruise. How did you hear about the drink package offer? We will be on Serenade again in February and would definitely consider it.

  4. I have to add my two cents worth also. DH and I cruised a b2b med/Ta cruise in 2013. It was of the best cruises we ever did. The first leg was great due to many new Med ports that we had never seen before. We were also lucky enough to have great dining companions that we met at dinner and were friends by the end of the cruise. Thought it couldn't get any better and then BAM...it did. We were on Reflection TA and enjoyed the crew, friends, and loved the Sunset Bar.

The cruise was wonderful so we will be on her again for the October16 TA. Can't wait.

  5. How do you find a TA who gives onboard credit? We've used the same one for years , and got a bottle of wine, once. I think we need to change.....

Definitely think about changing your TA. Carl and I had a TA that we used for 5 cruises and got her at least 4 other couples who booked thru her. I can remember being at a dining table in the MDR and each of the other couples told us of the OBC that each of them had. And there we sat, fat, dumb, and happy with nothing. So, it just so happened that I was in line for a burger at the grill and overheard a gentleman talk about his OBC that he got for that cruise. I introduced myself and was able to get his TA. And the rest is history. We have been with that agent for 12 cruises and either get a decent OBC or paid gratuities. Do what is best for you.

  6. My wife and I also had a great time people-watching in Piazza Navona. We didn't spend quite so much time, but we were right near the Bernini Fountain and just enjoyed relaxing, eating, drinking and watching.

The Scavi Tour is FANTASTIC. Takes a bit of work to get on, and MUST be booked well in advance (or "requested" in advance), but that tour was one of the highlights of my tourist life. The Borghese is also terrific, but also requires advance prep...very tough to get in if you just show up.

DH and I also always enjoy Piazza Navona. Brings back so many great memories. Also enjoy the Pantheon area with some very good gelato near the market. We have also joined up with a few people and did a wonderful food tour in Rome which was one of our highlights. Booked the Reflection TA for next October and are going a few days early to do a few things, but would love to hear more about the Scavi Tour. What is it? Never heard of it before.

  7. On my last TA that ended in Ft Lauderdale Luggage Valet was not available. In Oct I am sailing on a repo from Quebec to Ft Lauderdale and RCI told me Luggage Valet would not be available for that reason.

Darn. We have heard about the Luggage Valet program and thought we would use it on that October cruise. I have never been able to use it and it looks like it will be on another cruise down the line.

  8. We stayed in a cabin on deck 7 right beside The Hideaway last year and loved it so much we booked the same cabin for 3 upcoming cruises. No noise at all and very close to the coffee station :)

We were on Reflection TA last year in a cabin on deck 7 by the Hideaway. We tried to book the same cabin for another TA in 2016 and lo and behold, it was already gone. Ended up getting a cabin next door. To be honest, I was surprised it was gone two years ahead. The last Reflection was one of the best we ever took and can't wait to sail on her again.

  9. When you say steak is better than chops, you are meaning lamb chops, not Chops the restaurant? I'm surprised that they even serve a steak at Giovanni's- one of the main reasons we went to Chops, great if I can get it at Giovanni's too.

What is the fee for dinner at Giovanni's now? If I can get the same good fillet at Giovannis with some new other choices to go with it (ie -Egg Parm. instead of a baked potato) sounds like Giovanni's is the way to go.

Just FYI DH and I had the fillet at Giovannis and thought that it was indeed better than the steak we usually get at Chops. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised.

  10. We just did Western with 2 little ones in tow. We did a great walking/culinary tour in Jamaica that might be a good non-beach option (we left the kids on the ship so we could have a date, but the tour was relaxed and they could have come along). We had been planning in the Turtle Farm and Seven-mile beach in Cayman but didn't get to go ashore due to waves/wind (no compensation from Royal, we just took it as a bonus sea day...sadly this was the port DH had been most excited about). Cozumel we did a relaxing beach day, but I think there are lots of other options too.

As someone else mentioned, if you are set on Eastern, maybe see if they will let you change ships? That might be easier said than done though as Freedom is out of PC so you would likely have to change departure ports.

We will be in Jamaica the week of New Years. Your tour sounds interesting. Was it a ship tour or a private one?

  11. @ 1cruiseaholic- We are about 2 hours north of you! Some of my pictures were from my camera which is a Canon SX510HS and some from my daughters Nikon. I wish I would have bought the Nikon personally it seem to take pictures faster, but I had bought mine before I saw the Nikon. :( The other daughter came home from our trip and bought one just like her sister from Amazon for $100 cheaper then on black friday weekend it was down to $160 so she should have waited:) She bought the Nikon COOLPIX L 830.

Thanks so much for your quick response. I will definitely look at Nikon. DH and I did a med cruise last fall followed by a transatlantic. We have cruised quite a few times, but the med was my best thus far. It was probably due to a combination of perfect weather, new ship Refection, wonderful staff, super new friends, and new sites. What is not to like!

  12. We wish we could have went to Cinque Terre I checked to see if we could squeeze it in,but one bad thing about cruising you are limited on time and always have that worry off making it back to the ship on time! Oh well maybe we will just have to go back and hit a few of the spots my hubby would have liked to had more time at!

Loved your review. Also liked your pictures. Need to buy hubby anew one. Would you mind telling me what camera you used? We are also from pittsburgh in the south hills.

  13. So excited booked a med cruise out of BCN back in April 2013 now we are leaving Oct 10 to enjoy BCN for a few days pre cruise getting on ship on Oct 14 for our first med cruise can not wait SO EXCITED :o

I am so excited for you. DH and I went on a Med trip on Reflection followed my a TA home.

We absolutely loved Barcelona and the entire Med experience. That was our first back to back. Happy to say that even after 31 cruises the Med trip was the best cruise ever. Everything just worked together perfectly. Weather was great, ports awesome, dinner mates were the best, and the ship was fantastic. We are meeting friends in Italy soon, but if we weren't we would be headed back to the Med. Have a super time...

  14. I have not used their insurance, but I have a lot of respect for the company. I should qualify based upon parent's service; maybe I should look into it. I wonder if they offer an annual travel medical policy; that is what we usually buy. Does anybody know?

Have you tried their website? https://www.usaa.com/inet/pages/travel_main?adid=icgsch62145648-VQ16-c-VQ6-29733545095

You have to sign in as a member to learn about the policies. It may be more efficient to read the policy details on line rather than try to understand over the phone.

We have researched insurance for the past few weeks. Have three trips planned for the coming year and are looking for the first time at an annual travel medical policy. Would appreciate it if you would share who you use. My email is carlcind@verizon.net. Thanks

  15. Was wondering if anyone on this board has received a link to the choir presentation during the guest talent show? I wrote my email at guest relations for the link, but have not received it thus far. I am not sure if it has not been sent yet, or if I just didn't get it. The songs were sung on the Celebrity Reflection in November during the Transatlantic cruise.

By the way, the cruise itself and the ship were awesome. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
