  1. First cruise was RCCL's Sun Viking in 1990. (RCCL was very different then) My husband and I were in our 20's and everyone else on the the ship was at least 50! (or so it seemed to us) We did a coastal repositioning from Vancouver 6 days to Los Angeles. Had a tiny inside cabin as it was all we could afford and I was getting on that ship no matter what! Sun Viking was only about 18000 Tonnes I think, and the trip was rough! One night the dining room was almost empty. We loved everything about that cruise! I still have the passenger list that they gave everyone. Times sure have changed!

In your 20's everything is great.:D

Keep records of your cruises, wish I had.:(

Enjoy each cruise, all will have good and bad, just don't sweat the bad.

  3. I agree most new cruise ships look like horizontal hotels with a small point on one end (so you can tell which way it's going:rolleyes: ). Many freighters (not container ships) have better looks.

I had the good fortune of spending 10 days on the five masted Royal Clipper :D .What a beautiful ship sailing out of each harbor we visited with 56,000 sq ft of sail overhead. They played a good musical number over loudspeakers so everybody in the port would know we were leaving.

  4. Escargot on the ncl spirit. It was in windows dining room and it was served with  pesto sauce.

Our waiter even said it was gross. He didnt know why they served it that way in the dining room and with butter in Le Bistro (fee to dine).

    (Fee to dine) Why else:confused:

  5. Ew! I think they had that when we sailed on the Inspiration too! I had forgotten about it, but I do recall trying something like that. Needless to say most of it stayed on my plate. It's been too long to recall what it was served with though. Anyone else experience this particular taste sensation?

After college 4 of us toured Europe for 3 mos. Two had been there before and had not eaten escargo, so we made a pact to try them. Toward the end of our trip we said it's now or never, since we were in a pretty good resturant in France so we ordered a dozen & 4 plates. The waiter thought we were nuts as most people have a dozen each. When they came we each took a bite at the same time and ALL of us said "I'll take yours if you don't want them".:)

I have never had as good on a ship, although they come close.

  6. The worst was ice cream on Azamara Quest. I had read a review that raved about it, but something happened. I tried several of the flavors and all tasted like sorbet, even what was supposed to be frozen yogert (sp) tasted like a slurrpy from 7-11:eek:

The best was on Celebrity. Each night our water would recommend 1 or 2 dishes which were always excellent. One night he just said "I recommend everything but the fish"! :) We skipped the fish that night!

  7. I can't believe i missed it! there was a write-up on it on CNN a week or two ago as well.

oh well, i guess i'll look for the rerun on Hallmark channel. DW is known to hit that one every so often.

HONDU - thanks for the input. another person making me lean towards getting those CI's. i had a lot of salt this past weekend and the tinnitus is so bad i can't even hear myself. :D

When did you get your CI's?

Sundagger - Oh, i can't wait for the muster drill when the staff sees i can't understand a thing. i'm sure they'll put me on some kind of list right then and there.

    -dave.

Tat'll be the day when the staff sees anything except 'Get it over with'.

Do CI's stop the tinnitus? Mine isn't too bad so far, concentration on something else stops it, but sometimes it comes when I try to sleep.
