  1. Threadstarter.....

Looking for the cheapest solution often is a mistake as you can see in the responses (since you are starting what is supposed to be a relaxing vacation, who wants to walk to the port lugging suitcases)

Perhaps you should consider a option which might cost a few dollars more but the result is a stress free commute.

After all, if you are concerned about $15 cost verses a $27 cost, after having paid airfare and cruise fare....

  2. Carnival is doing staggered check in times, a time slot is required for every passenger/cabin group. Those with priority can arrive when they choose.

It is on the boarding pass so those who come early without any priority privileges can be turned away at the terminal entrance.

  3. I am NOT judging, but waiting for the last minute before final payment would freak me out. I also like being in control of my cruises (and enjoy it also) and would never leave my bookings in the hands of a TA. I know a lot of folks here swear by their TA's, but I have also read horror stories about them. Sorry you had to go through this mess. I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

    Completely agree !!!

The more "middle men" you add to a situation, the more likelihood of issues as threadstarter has discovered.

    1) Gotta use a certain card to get points

    2) Waited too late to order the card

    3) Added a travel agent to further complicate things

  4. ALL I KNOW is ...I have asked this question many times and get different answers every time. I read that if you book EARLY SAVER....or CASINO RATE of any kind....you CAN'T change the name....now the person above said with early saver you can change the name for $50.00....GO FIGURE....WHO KNOWS

Even though Carnival has a rule of no changes with Early Saver rate, their break their own rule all the time - for a $50 fee..

I have done it before with Early Saver rate.

  5. Hmmm... does anyone here remember when about five years ago ShakyBeef posted his very scientific survey to prove that the chocolate squares which Carnival put in our cabins had indeed changed from a minty chocolate with a firm texture to a mint-less artificial chocolate of a softer quality? That was such a high point in my life!

    Egads !

Must have been if you are still thinking about it over 5 years later (and reviving a 5 year old thread)

    Bored, Get a hobby ...

  6. Indulge me for a moment.

We are thinking of booking a cruise in March of 2020 - an 8 day Southern on the Horizon. Booking so far out gives us the room options we want (Havana), however...booking so far out also means putting a deposit down for a vacation so far out! If I booked it under a past guest offer instead of Early Saver, it says that cancelling prior to 76 days the deposit is fully refundable. So if I book the vacation now, and cancel, I would get the $1000 deposit (4 people/2 rooms) back in the form I paid for it. Correct? The refund is NOT just money applicable to future cruises? I just want to be sure I am reading/understanding this correctly. I don't foresee any reason we would NOT want to go/be able to go, but it is just a long ways away!!

    Thanks for any help!

I have cancelled a Past Guest rate cruise, got all my deposit back within a week.

  7. With FTTF you can board as soon as they open the terminal.

Nope, you can check-in as soon as they open the terminal. Boarding will be at a later time.

But the excitement factor will cause you to get there an hour or two early.

No to this also, not a fan of sitting in a chair for an extra hour or two !

  8. I have been looking and looking for it - yes I think it is worth it. My question is....... have you ever wanted it and never had it become available? I am being told over and over to be patient and keep looking, and that everyone who wants it ends up getting it - any truth to that?

Demand has always been greater than the supply (until recently), so yes, many have not been able to buy it as regularly discussed here.

But, since Carnival has raised the price so high, demand may have fallen off. For example, FTTF went on sale May 1st for one of our upcoming cruises and it’s still available nearly 4 months later.

  9. If you have the available cash just lend them the money. That's what I would do. They can give it back to you when they get paid. If not, well lesson learned.

    Nope !

Never front front money to friends or family in financial distress unless you are prepared to lose it.

  10. Hey Rick,

I have spent all morning looking/calling/using search function- time to ask for assistance

When I called RCCL they insisted the only outdoor smoking area on Mariner of the Seas is the pool deck (windows that open ?)

I want to avoid (we are non-smokers) a balcony cabin on Mariner of the Seas close to the outdoor smoking area/hut.

I have read the outdoor smoking area is on Deck 5 starboard aft

Can you provide more detailed location information. Most worried about smoking hut on Deck 4 or 5 (whichever one it is) as we are in #6652. Thanks

Outdoor smoking areas are on one side of the outside of decks 4, 11, and 12. You can find out which side by asking on this live thread:
