  1. Yes, Sky Suites can go to Michael's.

When you board go to Luminae for lunch, not to Michael's. We were embarrassed on the Equinox when concierge chastised us for coming to Michael's and we were only in a Sky Suite and belonged in Luminae. We were so embarrassed as we were told to go to Michael's by staff.

We were on the same cruise in a sky suite. We went straight to Michaels on boarding and were asked to go to Luminae. I felt that the concierge was diplomatic but I know how you felt. Later in the day I read the welcome letter handed to us at check in and I don't think it was clear - it says it is their pleasure to invite you to Luminae open from 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm today and then explains all about the restaurant, reservations etc. It then states that as a sky suite guest you can also enjoy access to Michaels.

I probably should have read it first! I think because I knew in advance that I had access to Michaels, even if I had read it first I would have still gone there. If i had no idea I probably would have read first paragraph and gone to Luminae.

I imagine it varies depending on cruise and Concierge. I imagine they hope to spot people as they enter Michaels and redirect them, but we were actually sitting down when we were asked to move.

  2. I think they are worth it. There were no drinks packages offered for this cruise. They probably realise that people can get through a lot of drink in two days, no need to pace yourself for such a short time!

We were lucky we had a 1 pm embarkation time, although due to the terrible traffic on Good Friday we didn't get there until 2 pm. Therefore we were up on deck unpacked and having lunch at a reasonable time. Obviously if you are allocated a later check in it changes the experience somewhat and you lose a lot of the first day with rushing to muster etc.

With a two day cruise you don't get the chance to build a rapport with the staff. I would suggest researching the ship and booking dining preferences re speciality before you get on board, so then you can relax without dashing around trying to sort stuff out as soon as you get on.

  3. A good experience but once is enough. Very sweet even the 'sandwiches'. Glad I did it but relatively expensive. I always think the measure of a good dining experience is wanting to do it again and I didn't really feel that. On the Brittania waited too long for champagne and tea.

  4. We've just returned from the two night cruise.

Had a good time apart from poor service in the Crow's Nest. 35 minute wait for a drink even after a gentle reminder, and we weren't the only ones waiting a long time.

However I just wanted to let everyone know about the cabin G125. Nice balcony cabin with small sofa and shower and extra deep balcony, partially covered BUT there is a lot of noise from the theatre below. We booked a guarantee and it was only for two nights so not a big problem but I had read about theatre noise during the evening which is fine as we are out most of the evening, but there are rehearsals throughout the day which boom through the cabin. If we had been on a longer cruise with sea days we would have asked to move. Ok if you are not in your cabin much.

    Hope this helps someone.

  5. We went snorkeling in the afternoon and it was okay. By no means bad but not spectacular. I think they add in all the other activity’s because they know the snorkeling is not great. We skipped the cultural dancing and sarong demonstration to spend some time on the beach lounges. We did goto the coconut demonstration and enjoyed some fresh coconut. At about 3pm the boat took has back to the main island. Just was we pulled in it began to torrentially downpour so it was a wet run to the bus!

Back onboard we showered and had a hot tub. We had planned to just goto the buffet for dinner but ended up in Luminae. Delicious and saucy as always! Next time we eat there we are going to ask for healthy options.

After dinner I dropped by guest relations to get a copy of my statement, They day before I had got a copy to find out ½ of our onboard credit was missing. They took my details and said they would email Miami to sort it out and call me the next day. Alas no call or voicemail so I had to follow up - and explain the whole story all over again. I’m hoping it gets sorted soon!

We crashed out in our room and watched the movie spy on the on demand system.

In retrospect was the Amedee island trip worth $250 each – probably not – at $200 I would have been happy. But I do not regret doing it.

Instead of guest relations, ask the michaels club concierge to help you.

  6. So as nice as this room is, it's not without faults. There are some noise issues. We often hear a noise that sounds like someone shaking a tambourine. It's behind the mirror at the desk/vanity, and obviously flushing sounds from above. Also, there's a work area for stewards/butlers across the hall, and I've heard what sounds like ice buckets being filled around 5 am. I don't think it would keep me from booking this room again, it really is nice, but for someone sensitive to noise, I might avoid.

What are the flushing sounds from above?

  7. As you will discover from looking at the pictures Google turns up, the balcony is only partially covered. Of more concern to me would be that the balcony is completely exposed to the people next door. I prefer a bit more privacy on my balconies. I don't know how you ended up with this cabin, but I would seek to switch if you can.

It was recommended to me by the future cruise sales on board for the large balcony. I was informed it was fully covered. As soon as I got home I tried to find pictures and info and it appeared to be uncovered but I wanted to be sure.

    Thanks.

  8. Can anyone tell me if the balcony is fully covered on S1 6132 Constellation. I can only seem to find photos of infinity and read somewhere that there is a slight difference. Also is there a wind issue when sailing.

    Thanks

  9. We are nearly elite on celebrity and have generally cruised mainstream cruise lines. We did Oceania marina Auckland to Papeete in February/March this year. We were very lucky with the weather we were three days ahead of cyclone Pam (you have to take into account that time of year is cyclone season).

Food was slightly better than celebrity and the atmosphere a lot more understated. Evening entertainment pretty quiet, one show all over by 10. We made our own entertainment and were quite often the only people on the dance floor.

Trivia in the martini bar at 8.30 pm which ruined the ambience for us but obviously good if that is your thing.

Nice fellow passengers, well travelled, well to do, nice atmosphere on board.

South Pacific is amazing. Flight from Papeete leaves a lot to be desired. Open air airport. Definitely worth getting a pass for the business class lounge. Recommend booking a day room in Papeete for day of return flight. Oceania do their best considering the limited facilites but not ideal.

  10. Its fine for everyone to say just cancel but we are UK and lose our deposit. If we are lucky enough to have a different offer and can transfer our booking we still lose our perks. It's one thing changing itinerary for political/safety/weather reasons but for anything else surely they can implement this with enough notice not to affect cruises already booked. Or at least give option to cancel/move itinerary without penalty. Don't forget for some people this will be the only chance they get to go to some of these places that have been removed.

  11. We are regular celebrity solstice class cruisers and did Oceania as a special expecting to never want to return to celebrity but I have to say that wasn't the case. Oceania is a very good product but I think a lot of the differences are the size of the ship, ie number of passengers, rather than the quality.

Tendering on Oceania is far superior. Much more organised and independent guests are treated with respect in that you do not have to wait for tours to get off, regardless of loyalty tier. Speciality restaurants are very good, but the main dining is inferior to Blu (but not main dining room on solstice) and very rushed in our experience - in and out in 45 minutes. We had tough beef and dry overlooked fish in main dining on Marina.

Nightlife on celebrity is totally different. Marina they had trivia in the cocktail bar at 8.30 every night which completely killed the atmosphere for me but yvmv. Quite often there were only 6 of us dancing in the disco, and band finished at about 11.30. After this time there was an iPad to choose your music from.

We had a penthouse suite (we are usually Aqua on celebrity) and most days it wasn't made up till midday. Executive lounge was very pleasant with comp coffees and pastries etc.

Buffet was superior on marina - no self serve which was much more hygienic but a bit slower as a result.

Getting on and off was a breeze and even on last day we wanted to check in to our hotel and get back on board and this was a accommodated with no problem - can't imagine doing that on celebrity.

    Tours are expensive on Oceania.

If I could take a bit of both it would be ideal.

I suppose it depends what things matter most to you. I would choose either line again but I think I was expecting a lot more from Oceania due to marketing and cost and it didn't really exceed my expectations. O class ships are beautiful though.

  12. The problem is they did NOT tip. They took the auto gratuity & stuck it back in their pockets & bragged about it. Pretty disgusting, I'd say! The staff was outstanding & these 2 were the worst behaved people I've come across in a long time.

Our worst experience was many years ago and I won't go into detail in case they are on here, but they appeared very wealthy (purchased $22'000 dollar necklace on shore), in a suite etc and although I presume kept auto tips on - although not positive, had $10 to give to waiter at end of cruise, and when he went to take it, withdrew it laughing, then held it up up again and so forth. We are British and are very discrete with our tipping and try to follow local customs re tips and we were cringing and felt that the waiter wanted to tell him where to 'stick' his tip, but obviously too polite and worried about his job.
