Don't forget if you bid into the Haven the DSC increases and you have to tip the butler and concierge.
Thanks for all the responses everyone. :)
-
Only Book Safe Insurance if you had selected it.
So the travel insurance cost will increase some to cover the extra bid amount ?
-
They charge you more ;-)
No increase in taxes, etc ?
-
You keep the same perks....
Thanks. Any other differences?
-
Thinking about an upgrade bid but what happens to your perks that you originally had when you booked?:)

No particular order:

Bratpack show

Thanks Saint Greg. Think I will cross off Maison St Charles. Do you have any thoughts on the Hampton Inn Convention Center. It is close to the port and a few blocks from the Riverside trolley for exploring .
-
I have stayed at the Maison St. Charles once because it was on St Charles for Mardi Gras. The hotel was in pretty poor condition and the beds were AWFUL! It has outdoor corridors which I don't find particularly safe. I would look elsewhere unless you are really budget constrained.
Nolatravelgirl, thanks a bunch for this info. We have never been to Nola before and really appreciate your thoughts.

Taxi farefinder showed about $45 from Julia Street cruiseport to the airport
-
Anyone have any thoughts about either place?
-
Anyone stay in this cabin? We usually stay mid or aft but we're assigned this cabin during the Gem/Breakaway changeover in Nola 2018. How is the movement, noises, etc that far forward?
-
Yes they removed Honduras but added Belize City. Our fare did not change.
We are on the 11/11/2018 cruise from New Orleans and it doesn't show Belize City. It now shows up as a sea day instead of Roatan Bay.
-
We are booked on that cruise too. I noticed that they removed a port(Honduras) and raised my cruise fare by $100 per person..(n)

We love the Great Outdoors area at the back. Peaceful, quiet area to sit outside if the buffet area gets crowded.
We have been on the Jewel class ships 3 times and have used this area every cruise.

WaterView2, thanks for the info. Will investigate more over the next few months.

This is the reason why I suggest stopping at the Visitor Center (approx. Half way up point) It helps you to get used to the altitude. I have asthma and heart problems - yet no issues here thanks to using common sense - walk slowly at the summit and rest frequently. Bring water - dehydration makes altitude problems worse. Unless you actually get sick - this drive is so worth it. We saw one couple where the wife got sick - they had rushed right to the summit without stopping.
Zeno, thanks a bunch for the great list. I use a cane for balance issues and my wife has problems with one of her knees therefore greatly appreciate suggestions from others who have been to the islands and don't get around like we did in our younger days.:)
-
Sweethearts, thanks for that suggestion. We are "distance challenged" in regards to my original question. Don't want to use all of our time in Port to get somewhere and find a 1/2 mile or more hike to see it. The more we can see from a car, the better. Will do more researching and post more questions later

Get a guidebook...find out about the areas you'll visit....then you can determine what interests you within your comfort zone. Not all "points of interest" will interest everyone! Few things require long hikes....especially, if you have a vehicle! But DO read up on Hawaii! The more you know, the better time you'll have! Libraries have guidebooks in the reference section.
Thanks CB. Have travel planners from GoHawaii already and am watching for other info on the internet. About ready to drive the wife nuts now with planning. But planners don't always say how far something is from where you park the car, lol.
-
Easyboy, thanks for the link. We aren't able to walk longer distances anymore. Looking for any suggestions where most of the sights are viewable by car with minimal walking involved.
-
Looking for suggestions for people ( unable to hike/walk much distance) with a car rental while visiting on POA cruise. Waterfalls, scenic lookouts, overall beauty of the islands, secluded beaches, etc. from the seat of an auto:D Any favorites?

We have ours punched at the service desk in the atrium area.

I got a call from NCL and they left a message on my machine to call them about my upcoming voyage. I haven't had the change, but it all makes sense now. They were calling because I'm on the Breakaway and I'll need to change the booking
We are booked on the Gem out of Nola on 11/11/2018. Happy to read that the Breakaway and Gem are flip flopping ports. Been on the Gem before but not the Breakaway.
Haven't been contacted yet by Ncl about anything regarding the change. Hopefully hear something before October 24th. Would like to have "dibs" on specific rooms and not just 1 assigned to us.:(

Congratulations on your 40th anniversary & have a great 1st trip to Hawaii.
Maybe you'll discover a favorite island to visit in detail during a future land tour. :)
We may even try to extend our 1st trip with pre-cruise and/or post-cruise days. Lots of researching to be done yet.

We did Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour a long time ago on Maui. It was great, perhaps Maui would be the best bet for a first timer.
Thanks for your input. Since we will be "Hawaiian newbies" any info could help us decide which island would be best.:)
