This is a huge annoyance. My wife and I cringe when we see or hear this.

    Hi Thrak:

If we ever sail together again (we sailed with you on the 2019 Emerald TA), I would love to get together and talk grammar ( as well as other topics.)

  2. How about the "fewer/less" confusion ??

Candidate A got fewer votes (not  less votes) than Candidate B.

Emerald P. carries fewer passengers than Royal P., because Emerald P. weighs less.

The "rule": fewer for things that are counted; less for things that are measured

  3. When you purchase FCCs onboard, the $100 credit is actually stored in your Captain's Circle Account, along with whatever Onboard Credits you were offered. When you book a cruise, these amounts are transferred to the particular booking. The $100 becomes your deposit.

When the cruise is cancelled (as happened to us with our 8/31 Alaska Star Princess sailing,) these amounts are returned to your CC Account.  All of this is separate from the record of Cruises Sailed and Cruise Days, which are used to determine Level and Perks.

I suspect the same being done with the FCC being offered for cancelled cruises when FCC is chosen, rather than a "cash" refund.

  4. This bit of humor comes with an introduction, but since we've all got nothing better to do, ...

Many jokes rely on double meanings in their punchlines.  This one, originally credited to the creators of "The Simpsons", contains not one, not two, but three double meanings in its 8-word punch line.

It's after the great flood.  The waters have receded, the sun has come out, and Noah gathers all the animals together.  Noah declares "The word from the Lord is 'Go Forth and Multiply'." The animals all leave the ark, thanking Noah.  All except two snakes, who remain behind.  When Noah questions them, one of the snakes points to a small grove of trees, and says to Noah "We need you to cut down those trees, and cut them up into pieces."  When Noah questions them, the snake replies ..."We're adders, and we need logs to multiply."

Interesting article.  We have been fortunate to have spend far more then 1000 nights on cruise ships with nary a bedbug bite.  But we have other friends who have been "bitten by the bug."  We were recently on the Emerald on her repo cruise from Europe and did not suffer any ill effects.  I guess it is luck of the draw.

We too were on the Emerald for the 18- day repo cruise which arrived in US on Nov 18. No sign of any bedbugs on that cruise.

  6. We have dealt with a company (www.romeinlimo.com) several (5 ?) times, always with excellent results. Their website list a Rome Highlights tour, (9 hrs) for ship passengers.  I realize this would be too long for you, but they do custom tours.  We once did a 7-person tour when we were in Rome (Civitavecchia) for the day, and it worked fine. You might contact them and see what they could do with your time frame.

  7. Somewhat off-topic:

I remember an October W.Carib. cruise where, on Sat night,  out of habit, the dining room staff kept telling us to set our clocks ahead before our Florida arrival next morning.  We had to keep correcting them, telling them that Florida would be setting its clocks back, since Daylight Savings Time  was ending, and EST beginning, that night.

  8. Thanks to all for your responses.

Back in 1986, we passed through that terminal; spent most of the time anxiously looking for a suitcase that never did show up; we proceeded to fly across the Atlantic, knowing that one suitcase was not with us. It finally made it to Frankfurt 24 hrs after we did. I'd like to see the building, just for old times' sake.

  9.  We are facing a long, long layover (6 hrs) in Terminal 4.  We will probably spend most of the time in the Delta Lounge, but I would like to get out and take a look around the new TWA Hotel which is adjacent to Terminal 4.  Does anyone know if I can do this on foot ? Is there a pedestrian walkway between T4 and the TWA Hotel ?

Thanks for taking us along on your trip. We sailed out of Venice 3 years ago on the Connie, one of our favorite trips. The sail-away is magnificent, unlike anywhere else. We can identify with that special feeling of getting on a Celebrity ship.  It feels like home! Can't wait to take this voyage with you!

Back in 2013 we spent 3 pre-cruise days in an apartment on Giudecca, with these views out our windows.
