  1. Be aware that on the Summit, Deck 9 (AQ2) balcony dividers cannot be opened. You will not be able to sit out in a shared space. We were a bit disappointed to find this on our recent trip where we had 3 adjacent cabins. Don't know about the Deck 11 (AQ1) balconies.

  2. If you're talking about the last day of the cruise (else' date=' I'm confused about your itinerary), everyone who isn't on a back-to-back, must disembark by a certain time so that the cabin stewards can prepare the cabins for the next set of passengers. I've never been lucky to do a B-B, but there will be complete instructions of what you need to do (where to report to get your new cabin card, etc.).[/quote']

I believe the cruise the OP is on terminates in NYC. Halifax is one port of call (the final one before NYC).

  3. $5.00 cash, or $4.50 token purchased in advance of boarding. All of the passes (1-day, 2-day, 3-day) are valid on the ferries. Credit cards (Visa/MC) can be used, except on the ferry itself.

On our arrival day (Wed June 3) the line at the transportation booth on the Summit;s pier was quite long and slow-moving. If you walk over to the ferry area, the ticket booth there (in the TI Center) had a somewhat shorter line.

  4. This is very helpful. Thank you. I will be arriving into Venice at 11am before our cruise. I have booked transfers to the ship but I don't know what time this will be once we arrive at the airport.

I just wanted to see St. Marks Square. I hope this is possible but I suspect I will be tight for time. It says on My Celebrity that Connie leaves Venice at 5pm. From the info here I need to be on the ship at approx. 3pm at the latest to allow for safety drills??

Do ye think we will have enough time to get water bus/taxi to St. Marks Square? Would a water taxi be very expensive?

Thanks again for all the help and advice. Ye are super!

    Irishhappy cruiser:

I don't know the details of your particular sailing, but Connie usually overnights in Venice before the actual sailing. Embarkation is the day BEFORE the sailing. Are you really arriving on the day of sailing ? If so, it really might be tight. A better option might be to take the Alilaguna Blue line from the airport to the Ship. The trip is about 90 minutes, but you will see a lot of Venice from the water. You'll only get a partial view of St. Marks Square; you can't see all of the square from the water.

But if you are arriving the day before sailing, you will have plenty of time for sightseeing. You can check in at the ship, then take the People Mover to Piazzale Roma, board a #1 or #2 Vaporetto for the ride down the Grand Canal, spend time in St. Mark's Square, then ride the Vaporetto back. The trip down the Grand Canal at night is truly breathtaking.

  5. October 2014 - Celebrity Summit - Bayonne Embarkation - Called to the "Naughty Room" because of Power Strip in checked bag. Strip was eventually released when engineer discovered it was fuse-protected.

May 2015 - Celebrity Summit - Bayonne Embarkation - Same power strip, same bag, same trip to "Naughty Room" - refused release, power strip confiscated, returned at disembarkation.

    Consistency, thy name is Celebrity

  6. Quite agree Shogun, most modern ships including Princess are starting to look like a block of flats at sea

Last August, when we were ashore in Invergordon (Scotland) a local woman made the same comment to us about the Caribbean Princess .

  7. The time difference between the US and Europe is 6 hours at the time of the Transatlantic crossing, and was amazed that Celebrity had chosen to make the time adjustment at 2pm mid-afternoon. On the recent Equinox crossing they made up the difference in 3 chunks of 2 hours every other day during the 6 sea days.

Does anyone know if this is standard practice across other cruise lines ? My past experience is that time adjustments are always made at 2am.

Hi. We were on the latest Equinox TA - Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona. The time adjustment was 1 hour at a time at 2pm.

There seems to be a discrepancy between these two posts. Which one is correct ??

  8. All Solstice class ships added Luminae to the starboard side of the bottom deck of the main dining room. Because of this there is now only one entrance (on the port side) to the MDR. Luminae is just a walled off area on the starboard side of the MDR similar to what Celebrity did to create Blu on the Millennium class ships. Unfortunately it is not transparent to the quests in the MDR like Blu is on the Millennium class ships.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the last sentence. We have sailed on both Infinity and Summit in AQ, and I don't recall any "transparency" from the BLU side. BLU always appeared as a completely isolated space, with its own entrance and host. There was no visual connection between BLU and MDR.

  9.

Edinburgh Anchors off South Queensferry, 10 min walk from pier up some steps to Dalmeny Railway station, journey is circa 25 mins, costs £4.6o per person direct to Waverley Station in City Centre.

    PCagain and SteveH2508:

Before you commit to this, take a good look at the bridge. Be aware that you have to climb/walk (combination of stairs and path) up to the track level of the bridge, plus an additional flight of stairs to reach the Edinburgh-bound tracks.

You might really want to follow 2theship's advice. She knows what she's talking about. I've done both. BTW, I'm the one without the chef's hat.

  10. If you're not a big breakfast person, it's nice to sit at a table, have a croissant, some fruit, a double espresso, and top it off with a bloody mary.

We're on Summit to Bermuda on 31 May. Not a lot of Elites on board -- mostly families, and it's usually held in Normandie.

We were on Constellation TA last year with a lot of Elites on board. They held it in Ocean Liners for Elites and Tuscan Grill for Elite +.

If you're on the 14-night New England cruise, there will probably be a lot of Elites on board. Maybe then it will be held in the dining room, but who knows.

On our NE cruise last fall, it was in Normandie. I don't know how many Elites were on board, but the evening happy hour was in Revelations Lounge. No coupons were used.

    See you on the 31st.

  11. There is a light rail line right outside of the port complex that can be taken north to connect to the path train or ferry to go to NYC. Check it out.

We are going on the Summit this Sunday, will be fun not to have to use the buss to the ship!

Are you aware that it is a two-mile walk, or cab ride, between the light rail station and the cruise terminal?

  12. what is the Venice PEOPLE MOVER????

The People Mover is an automated monorail line which connects Piazzale Roma and the Cruise Terminal (Marittima) and the Tronchetto Car Park. Cost is 1.3 Euros. It is about a 10 min walk from the Princess Terminal, and from Piazzale Roma you can access numerous Vaporetto lines to all parts of Venice, as well as bus service to the mainland and airport.

  13. Thanks for the information cle-guy. I will check with my Celebrity Vacation Planner to check for alternatives. I am a little confused because the dates and ship are correct, but my cruise leaves from New Jersey, not San Juan.

Celebrity's schedule shows Summit arriving in NJ on May 1, 2016. She is sailing from San Juan throughout April 2016, with the April 23 sailing being the last San Juan sailing.

  14. We sailed on the Summit from Cape Liberty in Oct 2014, a few weeks before the new Terminal for Quantum of the Seas was opened. We are sailing on Summit again at the end of May to Bermuda. Her first sailing from Port Liberty will be on May 3. I wonder, does anyone have any information on the following:

Will Summit be using the new terminal building, or still be using the old terminal building and the shuttle bus to the ship ?

If using the new Terminal, will they use the new electronic, I-pad based/roaming representative boarding system that Quantum uses ? Or will it be the traditional desk check-in arrangement ?

  15. Since the ship sails eastward, you will need to be on the port side to see any of Manhattan. But the distance is so great that you won't really see much. You'll be seeing much more of NJ than Manhattan. All you will get of the Statue of Liberty is a side view. Then, as the ship turns south, you will have a fine, extended view of Brooklyn.

I suggest you keep your starboard cabin, and go to one of the aft upper decks and watch from there. Passing under the Verazzano Narrows Bridge is much more impressive from one of the open decks. If you're on the May 31 sailing, I'll look for you :)

  16. Sheraton Old San Juan. It's right by the port and pier. Right in the old town in middle of attractions, sightseeings and local restaurants.

While it is right by the pier, that is NOT the pier that Summit uses for embarkation. The PanAmerican terminal requires a cab ride from San Juan. Good hotel, though.

  17. How does departing out of Venice work now that cruise ships can't go to old Venice dock? After flying into Venice where would you want a taxi to take you to? Would it be better to stay in a hotel that doesn't cross over the Grand Canal? Is this harder now for carting your luggage around? I've been to Venice by land (parked car & went over water by water taxi to hotel). I like the itineraries for that port but worried about it being a lot of work getting there and embarked.

    Thanks:)

Your first sentence is incorrect. Cruise ships still go to "the old Venice dock" (Stazione Marittima). The restrictions (which have since been lifted) are on the SIZE of the ships, not where they dock. That's why Celebrity only has the smaller Constellation sailing to/from Venice; Princess only has the smaller Island Princess, etc. There will be no effect effect on passengers' activities once they reach Venice.
