Over the years we have missed a number of ports. In most cases, there was some sort of substitution.

The only times we received compensation were:

    1) when propulsion systems issues caused our cruise to be cancelled on Day 3 (we returned to our embarkation port for repairs but were invited to stay on board for the remainder of the cruise with free excursions every day PLUS received a full refund and a bit more). Our best "worst cruise" ever.

And 2) when our supposed to be Hawaii but turned out to be Mexico cruise encountered further problems when one single case of Covid on board caused 3 of the ports to cancel our permission to visit their fair towns (they were not equipped to handle an outbreak on board); Viking gave vouchers for all, a percentage of the cash portion of the paid (not on any vouchers used).

When Hawaii was cancelled, you went to Mexico I went to South America.  All of our Argentina ports were cancelled due to Covid.   We only had 2 ports on our 18 day cruise.  Beautiful scenery, very little compensation

Skagway is great.  One of the best ever excursions was from there.  No not the train.  Helicopter to a glacier with a dog sled camp on it.  Got to meet the dogs and go sledding.  Of all the ones who rode on the back of the sled just guess who was the ONLY one to fall off????

Sorry you fell off. That was my favorite excursion ever!

    Thanks all,

Anyone eat at Timberline Bar & Grill at the top of the tram?

Or is better to eat in town somewhere?

It's OK, not the greatest.  But the view certainly is.

  4. Murray...........thinking of you and really appreciate your guide and all the wonderful photos you have posted on your website over the  years.  I know you're doing what you can and especially enjoying all your animals.

I have tendered in Sitka, back in the days before they had a berth. I have also seen tendering in Ketchikan and Juneau, when the number of ships exceed the number of berths.

In Skagway, I haven't followed the repairs to the Railway/Princess Dock (closest to the mountain), so if that berth isn't operational they may require tendering.

Am going in May. They’ve canceled Skagway because of the rockslide so we’re going to Haines instead,

We are docking in all ports.

Not on Viking (yet!) but did a TA in Dec/Jan and the weather for us from cold Winter UK was warm enough to be outside on sun beds from the Azores to the Caribbean, both directions. The closer we got to the Caribbean the higher in the 20s (centigrade) it got, to the point of being very hot (for us) for a couple of days either side of the Caribbean.  The weather can be anything; we had calm and a storm and everything in between! We’d happily do one again when work holidays or retirement allows…  As you’re from FL you may find it quite chilly from Barcelona to about 1-2 days beyond the Azores (depending on your route)   Pack sun weather and jumpers. Pack cold weather in case it’s cold in the Med/Barcelona.

Weather will get warmer as we come across the ocean heading for Florida. Last time I went in November it was balcony weather all the way.

We are looking at In The Wake of the Vikings for next September - Bergen to Montreal. I am hesitant about  this repositioning cruise. I am concerned about the North Atlantic at that time of the year, not only for the possible rough seas, but also the possible missed stops, especially the tender ports. Has anyone done this cruise?

I have done North and South TA’s. The North Atlantic crossing can be rough but fun if you don’t tend to get seasick. We usually miss Halifax.  The Southern crossing is pretty calm in Nov, Dec.

I have read that there are plenty of taxis at the port but I’m a bit concerned that there are 4 of us with luggage - are there large enough taxis?

does anyone know what larger taxi to airport charge is?
Has anyone recently experienced disembarking at Barcelona and getting at taxi - what the queue times were like? We will be getting off Wonder of the Seas.

    Thanks in advance…

Use the ships transfer. Bus to airport

The TVs in the rooms are throttled so that you can't turn them up very much; at their loudest it's often too low to watch a movie, especially with the way movie soundtracks are these days.

I called and they sent someone up to increase the volume.

It sounds like you booked at the $25 pp promotion so if you cancel prior to the 120 days out you only lose $50.  Also do not buy trip insurance until prior to that 120 day cancellation period as there is nothing to insure at that point.  Trip insurance is never refundable nor is it transferable to another cruise.

Why does Viking require full payment a year in advance?  Because they can.  Many of the itineraries sell out quickly and Viking loyalists book years in advance.

If you have a pre-existing condition you have to pay for Insurance within 10-15 days to be covered for that.  Check with them and other companies.
