I have a question about our May 3 Alaska cruise (Vancouver to Seward). We have a 9pm flight from Anchorage on May 12 with Viking transfers. Does Viking transfer right away after you check out. (around 9am)? If this is true - we would have approximately a 9 hour wait at the airport. Are there other options?
You have to get to Anchorage from Seward with by Train or Bus which can take over 4 hours.
The train will take you right inside of the airport.

Only if you already own them. Ketchikan can be very rainy. Also, a fleece vest is highly recommended, and a fleece jacket would be helpful (plus, you live in Maine so you would be wearing these items throughout the year anyway). I did see on someone's packing list a sweatshirt. I would not bring a sweatshirt. If that got wet, it would take forever to dry. Fleece is a better option.
I always bring a sweatshirt to wear over my turtleneck shirt and under my hooded rain jacket. It’s never gotten wet.I also wear earmuffs to keep my head warm.

For Misty Fjords, I'd recommend a flight tour with Island Wings.
ditto to that. Michelle is the best up there -
I love going in May for the best weather. Also September for the autumn colors. Also, less little ones running around.

Taking the helicopter to the top of the glacier was an experience of a lifetime.
The “sled dog” ride in a cart up the hill was not.
Best part in both is playing with the puppies!

THANK YOU so much everyone for the great information. It's very helpful. Next step is to actually rent the scooter!
There is a company called “scooter around “ that you can rent from. They will have the scooter in your cabin or hotel when you arrive and then pick it up from your cabin at the end of the cruise

Not much to see there.

They are both beautiful excursions.

St the Pan Pacific Hotel, they will take the bellmen will take your bags to the cruise ship downstairs.

You can go out of either Juneau or Skagway for the dogsledding on the glacier.
When I went it was 6PM. I booked through the cruise line. As you probably know it doesn't really get dark in the summer months.

Yesterday I booked the Viking Ocean Hawaii cruise leaving December 4th. Hoping it will be a go! If any other solos book this one and would like to meet up over coffee or a meal in the buffet, let me know! 🙂
I'm excited--Hawaii is the only US state I haven't been to yet.
Oh Darn, I'm on Viking Ocean's December 20th to Hawaii. I'll get on when you get off.

Where does the free shuttle pick up in Ketchikan?
Last time I was there, the free shuttle went to all the docks to pick up and drop off.

Miss her knowledge.
I met her about 4 years ago at the cruise critic party.

I use Verizon and have never had a problem in Alaska.

In the ports you will not have any problem . Otherwise it is hit and miss while sailing. You will not have any reception at Glacier Bay or Hubbard glaciers.
-
ISP (Icy Straight Point) has great whale watches. Also you can usually see the whales when the ship is in port.

Alaska is part of the United States and is therefore very accessible.
I have not had any problems and have found everyone to be very helpful.

We used Amtrak from San Diego to Los Angeles in March (last year). They lifterd my partners wheelchair up on the lift. We sat in a special Accessible area and had plenty of room.
In San Diego a man who worked inside the train station came out to our Uber and took in our bags, checked them for us in as we just waited for the train..

I can tell you that a folding wheelchair will not fit in a Ford Escape. The trunk is too small. The Toyota's are much better. We have a wheelchair and a walker with a seat and they both fit in the trunk. Just be sure to use to use Uber X.

Thank you all for your wonderful information regarding this cruise.

In my many years of cruising I have stopped going to the auctions.
A couple of times, I have seen pictures by Jean Claude Picot that I like in the halls or lined up in a room. I will tell the auctioneer that if it doesn't sell I would like to talk to him after the auction. I have bought a couple that I love in the $100 price range..

I had 3056 in December and was right across from the Launderette. I didn't hear any sound at all.
Of course, the ship only had 300 passengers on it.
