  1. We were there last feb. and will go back on our upcoming valor cruise.

We loved Orient beach! Soft sand, clear water.....

The beach is beautiful. It is a busy stretch, great for people watching.

We got there early, had the cab driver drop us off at Kakao. They were just setting up. I think it was $20 for 2 very cushy chairs and an umbrella in the front row. I'm not sure it is much different than the competing beach clubs (of which there are many) all marked by different coloured umbrellas.

We did not buy food there. If you rented chairs there you are still free to buy food anywhere on the stretch.

  2. From the carnival dock it is about 20 minutes or so. Taxi was $8 per person each way. There are many of the safari bus taxis that will wait to fill up before they leave. We always go for a regular taxi that will leave right away. The price is the same no matter which taxi or how many people. Prices are fixed and posted.

Lots of taxis waiting to take you back to the dock.

Chairs are about $7 each. There are palapas that are another $7 each. There is shade under trees as well. Nice bathrooms.

    Hope this helps.

  3. We went to the PCG on our Valor cruise last February.

The walk from the ship was doable, very nice actually. We got there when it opened at 9 am.

The place was really nice as shown on the pictures.

    A few downsides, though.

Although, there were umbrellas beside the nice loungers, they could not be moved or tilted. We found there was very little shade until mid afternoon. That may not be an issue for some.

Also, we found the place was "taken over" by about 20 or 25 (a lot for the size of the place) of the ship's crew by mid-morning. They get a discounted rate and I understand this happens every Friday when the Valor is in St. kitts. Not sure about other ships or days. They were having a good time, for sure. I see why they come, close to port, free wifi, inexpensive. I was a little embarrassed by some of the public displays or affection in and around the pool, just saying....

    Hope this helps!

  4. Sure, we were there the last 2 years. Both times there were not lots of ships in port. last time was in Feb./13.

It is closer to the Crown Bay port. We were at the other port (cant think of the name!) where the Carnival ships dock.

Taxi was $8 each way per person. It didn't seem to matter if there were just the 2 of us or many crammed into one the the "safari" truck cabs.

The beach is nice but I hear not the best on the island. You can look up pictures on Tripadvisor.

Chairs were $7 each. We rented one of the nice big thatched palapas very close to the water and it was $20 for 2 chairs under the palapa. We settled on the chairs and someone was around to collect payment. There is shade under trees if you want that or if the palapas are taken. We did get there early (one of the first off the ship right after docking) as it did fill up as the day wore on. We enjoyed the morning when it wasn't as busy. Bring your beach towels of course. There were taxis waiting in the parking lot to take you back.

The water was nice for swimming and warm in February. Very enjoyable.

It was fairly quiet, no music playing.

There was free wifi (someone at the bar will give you the password) and nice bathrooms. It is part of a small hotel. There is a small pool which I did jump into although I think it is for guests only.

It is on a small bay with a more rustic hotel sharing the cove.

We bought a few drinks, can't remember the prices but typical of the islands. We split a burger and fries (quite good) for about $12.

We enjoyed the day so much we replicated the day on our next cruise.

Next time we want to go to Magens Bay for the change.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Thanks for the information!

We have been to Emerald bay the last times we were in St. Thomas but want a change and were going to do Magens Bay next Feb. There will be only 2 ships in port the day we are there on the Valor.

Were the chairs the nice lounge chair type? Do you remember what the deposit was?

Could you rent umbrellas? or is there enough shady spots?

    Thanks again!

  6. Thanks, that is really helpful!

I'm assuming that you just showed up without making a reservation.....

I wonder if they ever turn anyone away if the resort is too busy.

I think we will give it a try.

Do your remember what the cab fare was??

  7. We have been to the Rendevous while on a cruise last February.

    it is a lovely place.

I would definitely not recommend walking to the resort from the port, especially alone. We considered it as we love to walk but did not get a feeling that it is very safe. Even walking down the beach while there seemed a little seedy. The beach in front of the resort is public so there were many locals hanging around including some (although not all)unsavory looking characters. Just being honest.....

Even the cab driver made us feel uneasy. He approached us as we had left the ship so we went with him through a few narrow streets to a very run down old cab. We did get there safely but said we would not book a cab again without seeing it first. Or we might choose an organized excursion if in St. Lucia again.

Of all the islands we were at this one made us feel most uneasy. This is probably not everyones experience but was ours.

  8. We are looking to do the day pass to the Marriott hotel this February while on our Valor cruise.

I understand it is $35 per person. Does this include taxes? any other fees?

Did anyone have trouble finding chairs free by the pool or beach (it will be high season while we are there)?

    Thanks!
