All of these bullet points can be covered by buying insurance.

Point one : Insurance will reimburse all prepaid nonrefundable costs under cancellation for a medical reason. In addition, it will reimburse you for costs associated with quarantine if you test positive at the pier. Celebrity is not paying quarantine costs after April 30, 2022, so even if they extended the cancellation feature until 2023, how are you any better off? You’d still have to pay for quarantine and return travel if you tested positive at the pier.

Points two and three expire in two weeks; but they, too, are covered by the Trip Interruption provision of a comprehensive travel policy.

The difference is that one has to pay for insurance. I guess I just do not expect the cruise line and - by extension - other paying passengers to continue to underwrite the cost of people who test positive for COVID.

Curious how travel insurance would work for a group traveling together where one person tests positive the day before the cruise after the group spent several days together pre-cruise. That person should have their expensed covered under travel experience. Would their spouse? Would the other couple(s) that have now been exposed and would likely not be allowed to board the ship due to their exposure?

  2. I think the title of the post is a bit confusing since it is the Covid Assistance program that is disappearing rather then the Cruise with Confidence program (that will be in effect for anyone already booked). Still bummed though with my cruise approaching in May. Scary times. Glad i bought travel insurance.

Shared dining in restaurants was not allowed in restaurants on our post covid cruise unless bookings were connected. Unsure of the present situation, perhaps someone can confirm?

Even if this restriction is no longer in place it might be worthwhile connecting your bookings (if they aren’t already) just in case restrictions resume.

We had no problems dining together in Luminae or Specialty dining in August on the Millennium. Can't imagine we would this time. They can't link our cruises because we used two different travel agents.

Curious.  Why is a shared butler important to you?  If it is important, you could always ask for it with the suites manager.  They could easily switch a butler.

We just figured it was easier. We are likely to spend most of our downtime in their PH since it is larger. We will usually have snacks or even sushi brought up. We are also likely to be escorted together for at least the tender ports if not some of the "private journeys" we are going on. We might take some meals in their cabin, too, which also is easier with a shared butler  -- otherwise their butler will likely end up "taking care of us" anyway rather that ours on the other side of the ship.

  5. We are traveling with another couple (they in the PH, us in a RS). We plan to be together pretty much the whole cruise. For those of you who have booked upper suites, is it reasonable to assume that if we moved next to them (Reflection), we would share the same butler? Last cruise, we were on the same deck but opposite sides and had different butlers. Have people found that a single butler does the upper suites on one side of a deck?

  6. Not sure when you are going, but take a look at United and Lufthansa. We are flying from Reno to Florence prior to a cruise and then taking the train from Florence to Rome (we are flying Lufthansa which has about 14-15 hrs total duration Phoenix to Florence at least in May). I agree about taking a car from FCO to the train terminal to avoid changing trains with luggage.

  7. I just received a confirmation from Captain's Club re yesterday's Spain webinar, but I never received one for the Turkey webinar. Did anyone else? If I don't get the points added mid month for Turkey, has anyone been able to get Captain's Club to add them manually?  New to this so appreciate any answers!

  8. For our Antarctica trip, we ended up taking the air credit and booking ourselves for a few hundred dollars less than SilverSea's cost (business class) -- BUT we live in a small city with very few flights in and out, so choosing which flights to use was very important to us (there were many that took over 24 hrs one way!) We also booked the moment the air opened (approx 330 days before the flight) and hedged our bets with refundable fairs for only a little bit more.

  9. Looking forward to my first cruise over Christmas and New Years on the Silver Cloud (Antarctica with South Georgia). Have to say it was more about itinerary and overall timing (missing less work days), but I'm hoping they make it a bit special for everyone on board. This will also be my first cruise with Silversea.
