  1. They've def got it down to a science and an art! We decided to do a B2B next Aug instead of another cruise tour like b4 but if I do that again I would pack my airplane carry on with just what I needed for the land portion and send other bag to ship ASAP! We hauled them to Talkeetna and that was poor planning on my part. Train is very restrictive. Only a purse, camera bag, backpack or similar.

  2. Have to get on some kind of wagon soon. Logged in @ 190 today. That sucks! I feel so much better with high pro/low carb diet and certainly my blood sugar rejects that too. Just can't get my head in the game. I'm going on NE/Canada cruise in Oct and sure would like to be 30-40# lighter.

  3. I've got several albums and now cd's and was actually a little "young" for them! Them and Peter Paul and Mary are the reason I taught myself guitar in the late '60's as 7th grader for a school project! My Daddy always bemoaned the fact he spent a small fortune on piano lessons and the only $ I ever made was playing instruments I taught myself to play!

  4. Personally if I had a choice of departures, I'd take Boston in a heart beat. I assume you're flying into the port and its so easy AND CHEAP to get from airport to harbor or airport to downtown area for hotel and back to harbor. Check out the MTA website (whatever there calling it these days) and look @ a map. If you're coming in departure day it's a quick silver line bus over to port and it cost $2. Maybe a little more now but prob not much. If you're going to be there a few days you can get a Charlie Card good for a week for under $20--spent a week there a year ago and we sure for our $ worth!

  5. SPUNKIE 4--it appears to me you have more than adequate coverage altho it would behoove you to scope out EXACTLY what Medicare and Tricare would cover/reimburse if out of the USA. No sense in paying extra $ for more coverage than is needed since its already in place.

  6. I use the cards frequently on cruises. On a more general note, I also have business cards I got done for free from Vista Print that say "Thank You - your exceptional service is appreciated. Please feel free to give this to your manager. They are welcome to contact me for a compliment!" with an email. I use these all the time at restaurants, hotels, etc, typically handed out with the tip if applicable.

That is an EXCELLANT idea! How does one go about getting those?

  7. The free or lack thereof coffee thing is just another way for PCL to make a few bucks IMO. This is actually kinda funny to me. My traveling companion considers herself a "coffee snob" and thinks the sun rises and sets on SB. I personally find it bitter and too strong and McDs suits me just fine! We were in the lodge @ Denali using the wifi, watching people etc and got coffee and a snack @ that food area. Their coffee was Dewers or something like that. Comes out of a machine. It's a concentrate I guess that mixes with hot water. It's nothing special IMO again. We have that system @ work! She raved and raved about that coffee! Didn't have the heart to tell her how it was "brewed"! LOL.

  8. We didn't take the White Rail/Yukon. We rented a jeep in Skagway and drove up the Klondike highway into Yukon. Stopped when we wanted, stayed @ Emerald Lake for awhile and various other places. Fun break away from the "herd"!

  9. If you witnessed an accident in the road etc you would dial your countrys emergency number immediately I would hope so when on a ship I would dial the 911 immediately not ask a staff member to do it What you see can be told to the emergency desk by YOU and you would be clearer then just someone has collapsed or fallen over Just my input

Where are all these phones that people keep referring to? I don't recall ever seeing phones anywhere really x @ bars, @ PSD and in cabins.

I also think that people need to rethink their idea of being "cruise worthy" etc. I saw several folks on board my PC cruise in March that just looked like a code waiting to happen and quite frankly if I saw them coming our direction, we did an about face and went elsewhere. It used to be policy that you could not fly past a certain gestation in a pregnancy and I think the same thing applied to cruising. They have very stringent requirements for people that travel with dialysis materials so why not have some minimum criteria for passengers? I'm not implying that it target a certain age group altho statistically the older you are the more likely you are to have an "event". There's no easy answer and certainly personal responsibility comes into play.

  10. Flavored creamers? No. I brought the dry French vanilla Splenda add-ins which I use @ home cause I didn't want a box of creamers in luggage to leak out everywhere!

  11. I'm thoroughly enjoying your brief battery dying posts! Brings back fond memories of our trip summer before last. Assume you're taking the train down to Whittier? Hope you get nice booth companions. We sat with a nice couple from OH I believe but the husband was deaf as a post and therefore hard to have a conversation with. He was much more social than the wife tho who was prob ten yrs younger. He had to be mid 80's and was a retired physician.

You're from WI correct? A friend we met on PC cruise in March is from Chicago and says they have SNOW in downtown!!

  12. Anytime dining is designed so that one shows up when one wants to eat and has a reasonable wait time to be seated. This has not been my experience on last 2 Princess cruises so have opted out of that choice. Part of the problem lies with the reservation policy. It seems to vary with one Maitre D to another. Also some folks were allowed to have "standing reservations" for their group every nite the whole voyage and that's not how it's supposed to be done. If you want to eat early or later, say 8+ then ATD is a non issue. If you're more into the 6-7P frame it can be a problem. Just my 2 cents. Many will agree, many will disagree. Just stating what I discovered on 2 voyages in January and March.

  13. If your daughter does them, she can probably give you the liquid, powder, brush and emery tools you need to do a fill yourself.

I don't mean to sound snarky but doing nails IS an art and not an undertaking for the inexperienced! If it was me, I'd have her do them in a very neutral color and fill as close to edges as possible and short length. Then if OP doesn't want to get spa fill, they should hold up for the duration of her trip.
